Bloody gorgeous mate!!! thanks for sharing, excited me even more now haha Thanks Chaps, some great food for thought. @carat please show my more on your superturbo diesel one? is it a DPUK one Not a Dpuk car but a rolling project I started 10 years ago. Used to have a 300 petrol with an auto gearbox, now has the om606 with a 6 speed manual. I actually use it as a daily driver, keep it off boost and you can see 40mpg out of it.

Thanks Chaps, some great food for thought
As HC says, this was my gut feeling too, buy the best then improve the other bits, the 24v one just doesn't sit right in the advert or the convo I've had with the guy, feels very 'wanna off load this' and tbf it's cheap so why hasn't the usual MB fanatic snapped it up being mega rare?

Chaps
I've finally decided I really need a W124 Merc estate in my life
Narrowed it down to two
One is a 300TE 24v with all the bells & whistles, the other seems pretty basic compared being a E220 with cloth trim BUT the kicker is the E220 has impeccable service history, and pristine bodywork whereas the 300 has all leather, but a few areas that look bothersome and i'm not 100% on the service history as yet
I don't know the first thing about any of the Merc models, trims etc etc, they're both around the 3-4k mark so not bank breaking, is the E220 one to steer clear of or are they all much of a much?
it'll be driven 60 mile round trip twice a week to work so won't lose my head over mpg or anything
So, which one would you choose and why?
Thanks for any input

I'm in turmoil at the moment as I want a spirited estate for my daily commute
Just can't decide which one!
On my radar is an Audi A4 or S4, deep down I'd love a 90's Merc with the OM606 tweaks but they're big money now
edited to add the Volvo 850R too
I'm actually doing my own head in searching

Thinking of replacing the daily with a big daft comfy motorway cruiser to commute and these seem as comfy as it gets
Obviously older they are the more problems they get but anyone got any ownership insights or ‘don’t bloody buy one of those’ etc etc
Any guidance would be great
Thanks

Selling another car for a mate who’s not great on inter webs
The ST200 is picking up pace as the next fast Ford. This one has had a new front wing, both sills professionally replaced and both rear arches - all usual rust points so no worries there. It still requires minor filling and paint to make it look fresh again
Mot is until March 22
Interior is in good condition
These were easily bought for half this price only 6 months ago! Grab one whilst still sensible money
Located in Doncaster for viewings etc
Cheers

little bump, I honestly have had must be 20 people want this, request 50,000 more photos then just disappear with no further contact? i've had 5 people arrange a viewing then haven't shown up....quite bonkers, maybe it's just with Covid.
Anyway, bump as said
Cheers

Zeb - I ike that! I like Limited edition models of stuff too, not sure what the F1 difference is to the normal 197 as they're double the price??
BBB - I get you, but also agree with others that the reliability almost makes it predictable, the wifes Passat is fast'ish, comfortable and effortless but bores me senseless
Stiff - you know me better than I know myself
Still craving an Evo i think, the one I never had or could afford (still can't haha)

Your Impreza comment is why I'm struggling! last ride in mine tonight and I love them, not even sure why I sold it really (other than my self confessed 'issues' with car buying/selling) My daily is a modified mk5 golf gti. It's nowhere near as quick as my imprezza but I can drive it much much harder as the fun is all in the handling. I could never get out of 3rd in the imprezza when nailing it due to how fast I'd be going. And I enjoy the golf more because of it's ability to be fun at lower speeds. The imprezza was like a drug, I could never get enough of kicking it's head in. I've never grown up even though I've tried. If you enjoy the imprezza, keep it. I keep looking at the evo 10. What's the spec of your car? I can't, it left on a low loader 30 mins ago hahaha Drug, kicking its head in, I can relate to all that, the never grown up either! It was a messed with WRX so there's plenty faster but it scared me which made it fun. Evo's are one I've never been in a finacially justifiable position to buy and now they've just gone crazy.......did see an Evo 2 which I love the older style ones even more but its got a foobar engine

My brother had a Focus St225, he stored that while doing some work on it and bought an Audi S5, which was more powerful, and while being faster, felt dull as dishwater. Great car to power around in but not a fun car. He sold that and put the money into his ST, and bought a Capri for retro housing. Again, captured perfectly, whilst some of the cars mentioned are 'fast' i fear they'd be dull as dishwater due to all their amazing capabilities and specs

If it’s for proper pure driving fun, for me it has to be something light, revvy, powerful enough but not too powerful. Seen folk mention AMG’s and Jags, but my CLS 55 AMG, albeit hugely fast, not far away from 600BHP with the mods, it’s fantastic....... but it’s almost too competent if that makes sense, too fast, too refined, too big, too heavy, it takes away some of the buzz. Not to mention the 10-20 MPG, no matter how you drive it lol..... if that sort of thing matters to you. I feel myself craving something like a Megane RS, Type R, Golf R etc maybe even Fiesta ST when time comes to move it on or tuck it away and pamper it a bit. I think you've captured what I mean Neil, I still want the rawness to the drive and the Scoobys certainly give you that, I fear if I get something like a Jag, big barge Merc they'll feel exactly that, fast but effortlessly fast rather than 'god that hurts my back to drive like that' fast haha

I had a modified imprezza about 6 years ago. I've never been in another car that was as exciting. I'd go for a modified golf gti with the ko4 turbo.
