Yeah I had an old bay window VW too and the Hiace was so much better to drive! Will keep an eye out for parts, they do pop up on ebay no and then, just need to keep an eye out.

Lovely old bus you have bought mate, I seen it for sale on ebay. I just sold mine a couple of months ago after driving it to Russia and back! It was a great trip and those old engines go on forever. They are an absolute nightmare to get parts for though! Good luck and hope you have some great adventures in it.

Some pictures. Your van looks in great condition, did it come from Ireland? I think i recognise it

Service parts are easy to get for them but other parts aren't so easy to get. I'm trying to get an exhaust at the moment and not having any luck. I managed to get the fuel issue sorted, I replaced the fuel pump with an electric one and replaced the one-way breather on the tank and it seems to have fixed the problem. We took her on a 3000mile test drive last month and ended up in St. Petersburg! She ran great the whole time, just a few coughs and splutters every few hundred miles but I'm planning to change to electronic ignition which I think will help with that.

Rare old Toyota Hiace camper van from 1978. 2.0 petrol returns good mpg. Bench seat in front, 4-speed column shift. 13months mot, passed straight through with no advisories. Original 'Rio Grande' conversion by Motorhomes International. King size permanent bed with memory foam mattress. Extremely comfortable. Canvas pop-top in good condition. Solar panel with leisure battery, charging points, small fridge, plenty cupboard space. Awning and lots of camping gear. Totally solid underneath, recently wax oiled underneath. Could do with a respray but is presentable as is. Very cool old camper van. Half the price of a vw but more rare and better to drive. Will cruise all day long at 65-70. Tax Exempt in a couple of years.

Hi Manxman, good looking Hiace you have there, you have good taste I put mine into a friend to get it repaired, it needed lots of work to the sills but was surprisingly solid underneath. It depends how much needs done but Ive seen them go for £10k+ for a restored one, there is one on eBay at the moment for over £8k so they are worth a bit when restored. I see yours is the LWB, is it the 2.0 engine? Is there many spares for them over in the IOM? I could do with a couple of bumpers! Mine was originally from the IOM. I thought there was no test in the Isle if it was before a certain age? I'll get some more pictures up in the next few days, just done a weber carburettor conversion on her

Hi, does the key hole have a small cover over it that closes automatically with a spring?

Hello folks, Here's a short story about a trip to Croatia to buy an old BMW and a road trip back across Europe in our new car. After selling my Mk2 Escort at the beginning of last year I was on the look out for something else. In the summer I spotted this restored 1602 for sale on a German website, it really stuck out amongst the others so I contacted the owner, Ivan. After numerous emails and texts, my girlfriend and I flew out to Budapest in the October break on our way to buy our 1602 and start our trip home through Europe. We stayed our first night in Budapest where we seen a few sights by the Danube and sampled a few beverages The next day Ivan picked us up and drove us into Croatia and his home town of Osijek. The car was everything I had hoped it would be. The deal was done and we all went out for dinner and celebrated by having a few drinks and talking cars most of, if not the whole night Next day we spent the morning going from mot station to police station, post office, bank, insurance co, etc. Quite a lot of red tape and paperwork to get through when exporting a car from over there but it was a pleasant experience chatting away about cars and seeing some city sights that most tourists wouldn't get to see and at the end of it all I got a Croatian registration document in my name and some cool, green export plates that most people had never seen before. The lady in mot station even said that weather was good that day because Croatia was exporting a car After that we said our goodbyes and headed West to the coast to meet up with Ivan's friends, who had arranged accommodation for us and took us out for a few drinks. We had a such a good time in Croatia and such a great experience buying a car from such nice, friendly people. From the coast in Novigrad Croatia we drove to Venice for the day then on up to Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy to see the Dolomites. Over a snow covered mountain pass in the Alps and into Austria. Through Switzerland and round the South of Lake Konstanz. Up into the Black Forest in Germany to Triberg to buy a Cuckoo clock  Then up Route 500 (one of the top 10 Ultimate driving roads) to Baden Baden. Koblenz for a night out. Then Amsterdam where we got the overnight ferry to Newcastle then home. In total we drove about 2500km, we had a great holiday and the wee 1602 never missed a beat.

Hey Danno, great project you have there. I'm loving the stance and those wheels I just bought one myself last year. Will need to get a thread up here soon. Bookmarked
