I've flicked through a couple of old brochures I've got with Unipart stuff in but haven't found any batteries. This Maxi engine bay in a 1976 brochure shows a red top on the battery: Might be worth looking for some road tests of relevant cars from the period you're after?

Went to the regular local meet on Sunday morning, this Vauxhall powered Mini Marcos was super cool. Also when it comes to good stuff on the internet, I love the way this Puma looks on Tesla hubcaps http://instagram.com/p/C1xCUZJosFc

. Who knows maybe I'll get behind the wheel of my Datsun again at some point. Fingers crossed! Happy New Year everyone! Spent the morning at a local classic car meet with my Brother. Some lovely stuff there, a couple of highlights were this ex-Police Omega, which was featured heavily in "Road Wars" on the telly and in Grand Theft Auto apparently: And this: If you know about Imps you might know about the owner, Shrigley Engineering. Great Youtube channel! www.youtube.com/@thehillmanator

That's really cool, proper sleeper! How much different is that setup to the JDM March Turbos they did? I'll have to go googling... Different altogether. The March Superturbo's were the little 900-and a bit cc MA10 engine, same as a Nissan Figaro. The Cherry was a 1.5 turbo, about the same hp sstock as the March but the one in the Micra was prepped up a bit too. Something random and new I've learned today! I see a fair few Micras round here, we have a big Nissan dealer in town that has been there forever so they're over represented quite a bit, and the lad a few doors down has a concours K11 that did very well at this year's Festival of the Unexceptional, it's not unusual for his driveway to be full of the things at weekends... I had three K11s when they were new, company cars, fun things! I've driven a couple of K10s but that was back in the 1990s, wonder how they feel now

Back as a young teenager going to the Leeds Cruise (probably late 90s/early 2000s) a guy called Geoff used to turn up with his elderly dad in this, a K10 Micra with the complete running gear from a Nissan Cherry Turbo transplanted in. It was in full sleeper mode, complete with tartan rug etc, and one of my favourite cars of all time apart from......I wasn't sure if it actually existed. I thought I had posted photos of it on the cruise reports I did on the old uk-hotrods website, but all the links were dead and I couldn't find any photos on old computers. I really didn't question it's existence until today, when a guy posted photos of it on Facebook after he's fully restored it, with details of the above in the post. Still one of my favourite cars ever. That's really cool, proper sleeper! How much different is that setup to the JDM March Turbos they did? I'll have to go googling...

I assume it scales down for here, PM me whatever email address you want the full size sending to It does, but it stores the original size as well, so I should be able to pick up the full res one from the storage <3 Esoteric RR forum knowledge! Mad to think it was taken with a camera like this Technology has moved on a lot in 20 years!

Hey DarrenW have you got that photo in a higher resolution? I've checked your galleries online and it is one of the few pictures missing from the Retro Cars Show 2004 selection. Yep! I assume it scales down for here, PM me whatever email address you want the full size sending to

Lovely car, I'm enjoying this thread!
I've got a 2005 E90, same colours - Monaco Blue / Dakota Beige, with the same N52 engine, although mine's the smaller 2.5 and is mated to a manual box. I might start a thread about it sometime...

Also in the planning stages for what events I'll be at in 2024, got three international ones on my calendar and one Retro Rides 20th Birthday celebration ... hopefully there is a strong positive karmic backswing from this end of year rubbishness and 2024 turns out to be great. How is all this twenty years old!? Where has the time gone! Not much car stuff going on, although I went out for a quick spin with my mate in his Alfa 75 a few days ago. Twin Spark, goes well!

Interesting question, they're sort of coming up off the bottom of the curve in to "old enough to be a bit interesting" now, their time is surely here, especially for the early ones. Random old modified Mondeo on the "wrong" wheels pic

Sorry, when I clicked reply an error code came up, so I did it again. Can't seem to remove the extra replies. I've cleaned them out for you. Great to see the progress on this car, absolutely fascinating work!

The talk of TR7s has reminded me of this: Spotted at the Le Mans classic years ago. I think that's a Datsun Cherry hatch? I wonder if it's a one off or if a small company made a few of them?

I'm enjoying this thread, every now and then I daydream about a late Trabbi with a tuned Lupo motor or something in!
