I don't know all the details but I have been told by an extremely reliable source from this forum that they have done exactly what I speculated to in my previous post to somebody else a couple of years ago so be careful if you have anything in writing about the deal you made make a copy and take it with you. Good luck. What the same company?

Sorry I should have explained. We agreed upon the cost of the job when they took delivery. I've paid half when then they picked it up. I am going to turn up next week anyway unannounced as my patience is quickly running out anyway. Hopefully i'll get some insight into the recent hold ups.

with 6 cars and the youngest being an 18 year old mk4 gt tdi, I too will need to look at something new for the mrs and kids next year! Any more updates on the mk2? No updates, I keep getting messages saying 'big update coming your way tonight!' So I sits there looking at my phone all evening, (missus must of thought I have 'a bit on the side' only to be left updatesless.. I did ring and he did give reasons why but JLR (where I work - Halewood) are having the summer 2 week shutdown from the 27th so I've told him I want the car back for that so I can hammer putting it back together.

Nope scratch that. There was another delay. They've text to say they'll be working on it all weekend though. I've really been feeling the effects of not working on an old car. This manifests itself into looking (more than usual) at other project cars, wondering (more than usual) what the next project will be once this is 'finished'. The suspense! Just been chatting to the missus counting all the dailys we've had since starting this. So here they are and what happened to them. Ranult Megane 1.5 Diesel. Sept '16 - June' 17 Didn't let us down. Bought for £500. However it did have a mounting M.O.T 'to do' list and was on 161,000 miles, the missus wanting something newer. So what does she do... Well.. goes and buys one of the worst cars we've ever had. An era in Peugeots recent history that reminds me of the kind of history British Leyland had in the late 70s, early 80s. 308 1.4 vvti. 72,000 miles July '17 - Feb' 18, about as aesthetically pleasing as a spat-out-chip. It lasted a whole 7 months before (I suspected the timing chain stretched) but since it was out of its 3 month warranty and the part alone was over £700 I said sod it. I won't say how much she paid for the car. But it was sold for spares/repairs for £300 My turn. £1150 got me a Jaguar Xtype 2.0 diesel 01/18 - 03/18 Which I did like. I had for the grand total of 2 months before it decided to brake down on the busiest round about in town at the busiest time of day. I ended up chasing my tail to what I can only describe as a delicately sensitive delphi injection system, this is and the 308 saga is also the main reason why there was such a delay in work for the mk2 between Jan '18 - May' 18 The next car is probably my favourite of this bunch, had quite a decent following on PistonHeads. A Citroen Berlingo 2.0 HDI 3/18 - 10/18 www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=47&t=1731791I went on a lot of good adventures in that van. Detailed in the thread. But it was 188,000 miles when I had to (reluctantly) get rid. It was some unfortunate circumstances that forced me to scrap that car. Are you still with me? Phew nearly done. Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 10/18 - 04/19 Bought because it was cheap and local. £380. Which Did well UNTIL someone tried to cut into the car in front of me on a slip road coming out of work, said car f#&ked off anyway. The car in front of me slammed on, it was a 2 year old Renault Captur. My 20 year old Pugs brakes not being as efficient all I could do was swerve and brake. This was the outcome. I'd never been in a crash before so this was naturally very stressful, thankfully no one was injured. They have dash cam footage of the car that tried to cut in and as far as I'm aware the police are still investigating as I've not heard back from my insurance or anyone else's for that matter. Which brings us up-to-date. After the 406 I was tired of playing used car roulette so iI did something I said I'd never do. Went and bought a new car via the finance route. 2015 Tiguan 2.0 tdi. I love old cars but if I'm late for work because of a break down it will seriously go against me, so I need something I can trust, with 3rd child now too it had to be safe competent and like most modern cars.. Looking fantastic mate, bet you can’t wait to see it in paint and see your hard work pay off! Keep the updates coming 🙂 Not felt like this since I was a kid on Christmas eve mate. Been a long time coming. I truly thought the project was dead at one point but its all go now.

Golf is looking excellent. That Cadillac is going to cost a fortune, it's huge and looks well rough. Cheers pal, paint is going on by the weekend 😁 unless something unexpected crops up. The Cadillac is quite literally a mammoth project. I'll be keeping tabs on it through the bodyshops FB page though.

OK. I'll start with the throttle body. I saw a guide on how to rebuild these on clubgti. Looked fiddley but thought I'll give it a go as mine was filthy anyway. So. After dismantling it I ended up with this. Can of worms? But using the guide AND a spare TB as a reference I carried on. Cleaned the parts in my ultrasonic cleaner. Reassembled which got me this. But now the main event. An hour ago the bodyshop sent me some pictures. Very very exited needless to say.

Just caught up with this. Brilliant work pal. I sympathise fully with what stripping underseal on your back is like. I was looking through my previous photos to see if that hole is a drain hole but I couldn't find one that was close enough but I think it might be. Sorry I can't be certain though. Looking forward to more updates!

Not much to report for the time being, I've been buying parts that I need, bits and bobs really, I need some GENUINE 84-87 gti arches of anyone has a line on some. But in terms of jobs I've not been upto much except open a gigantic can of worms. You see where this is going. And after 47,000 years working my way up from 80 to 600 grit then switching to mop attachments on the dremel I've ended up with this. The third 'runner' is slightly duller than the rest as I tried a different finishing method but I'll go back and sort that and tidy a few other bits and bobs. They need to be thoroughly cleaned inside as undoubtedly aluminium swarf has ended up inside so you obviously don't want any of that getting sucked inside the engine.

Cheers guys I might just do that, I'll have to buy another can as I've pretty much used the single can on the bumpers giving them 2 coats each. It's about £20 a can which is fairly reasonable given that the finish is durable and it doesn't fade or chip away. I've spoken to Ryan who's thread can be found on cgti and his bumpers have held up well even after 2 years from the paints application so good news.

Let's talk about bumpers shall we, or rather restoring them. For thousands of years mk2 golf owners have debated, argued and fought over the best way to restoring the fading textures to bumpers and arch trim. Well I saw Rye1991's thread a while back and he used this stuff rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F262589135785Pro-XL textured bumper paint. Didn't get many before pictures but all I did was clean the bumpers with white spirit, key them with scotchbrite pads, clean again with white spirit and dry with a MF towel. Oh and mask... That's the rear bumper after one coat compared to the untouched front bumper. Close up showing textured effect. I thought well I can't have nicely painted bumpers and just leave the faded GTI stripe. What a paint these were to mask up. But I was very happy with the finished result. Not perfect, there a scratches and dints in them but I think they'll look good on the car.

Cheers for that mate :-) Quick update, I stole/bought me some wheels. These were up for sale for around 4 hours, at which point the seller said he was swamped with offers but I said I'd give him a deposit. They had been recently refurbished and he only wanted £300. It required another lengthy road trip but was well worth it. He knew what he had but he wanted some split rims that he had his eye on for his mk1 cab so a quick sale was required. I was thinking about wheels for a good while so I was very very happy to get these when they cropped up.
