Basically, the air box is strategically cut in order for maximum surface area of the paper filter to be exposed. The snorkel and mounting bracket must remain for obvious reasons, but the rest can be drop kicked into the nearest wheelie-bin. Then there's the issue of cold air... turns out that Lexus fitted a seal around the headelight that when removed becomes a perfect cold air point! This is a very old mod that's been tested in heavy rain by many people and it's all good. A little heatshield can be placed in the void between the filter housing and the radiator to prevent hot air being drawn in. Anyway - pics.. Filter housing pre-butchery: Post-butchery and refitted: Headlight seal area blocking cold air: And removed - hello filter! It was lashing it down on my test run - for peace of mind I whipped the filter back out and it was bone-dry. Job's a goodun! Also - it sounds so good it made me laugh out load! People report a small increase in throttle response/power, a large increase in induction noise, and a small increase in mpg... judging by the sound it now makes on what I really can't imagine I'll be enjoying any mpg increase anytime soon! I had a helper film my test run; short video to follow. These 32 valve V8s don't half sound good singing at 6000rpm!

Love how fat it looks from the back now: A couple of inches off the front would be the icing on the cake..

Haha - the bumper really needs painting. lets the car down from the front. I got fed up of seeing all the rubbish bits so covered them up! Might be easier to fit another bumper so I'm causally looking about for one..although I can't currently afford or justify it! It's next om the list, though.

It just flew through the MOT with no advisories. 🖒 Can't remember the last time I had a car that did that!

Love it! I had a '78 B1800 as my first car on the road when I was 17. Had a hefty roof chop and it was made convertible! Loved it. Failed the mot and I couldn't afford to fix it so it sat for about 4 years and then went on ebay 😑

Cheers, guys! Yeah - Lexus SC430 wheels. They just look a bit odd on the SC430 but I think they set off the LS400 a treat! Definitely- I’ve looked at them for the elgrand because they’re that full face look that I like. I think Lexus have a smaller centre bore than Nissan though. 60.1 centrebore dude

I had bc coilovers on my ls400. Made for a very comfy limo spec ride. After buying my wheels, tyres, and spacers I'm all out of budget for the foreseeable! I'd love to have it on air or coilovers but it ain't gonna happen 😑

Lowering isn't on the cards anytime soon - and if I did lower it, it'd only be a slight hit. It needs to remain 'practical family motor' so can't be in the weeds! They don't make lowering springs over here but I'm currently thinking about securing a set of second hand DHP (dynamic handling pack) LS400 springs which are 20mm lower if I can find them. Won't be soon though!

Had a couple of hours this morning so thought I'd have a go at fitting the front spacers/wheels. Got tyres fitted yesterday. I took a wire brush to the suspension components before I started - cleaned up nicely! I oiled up all the joints and suspension bushes whilst I was there. I then took the wire brush to the hub face and to the mounting face on the wheel. Put the front 15mm spacer on and saw that the studs came out too far: So I trimmed them down a little before torquing them up to 100 lb/ft each. Fitted the fronts and took it for a spin. It's smoother than it was - the steering wheel wobbled a little at 60/70 on the original wheels. Bonus! It doesn't seem to tramline, and it's not noticeably less comfortable either! Before: After; As Professor Bon Jovi once said, "We're halfway there..." Should look sweet with the rears on! Just waiting for the spacers to land. I had a re-think about the make of the rears I'd bought; I wasn't happy that there was no manufacture information and I want to do this safely and properly. Wallet's continued to take an absolute mullering this month, but I've now got some proper Japspeed ones coming for the rear, too. Hope they get here quickly; it looks like some sort of mad futuristic gasser or something!

I can vouch for this - my fuel hose cracked and leaked in under a year and a half. I thought it was because it was exposed to the elements, but this could easily be why.

That is correct... Tyres next! Hopefully at the weekend, although my rear spacers haven't arrived yet so I can't fit them till then. Can't wait to get them on! I'm hoping i won't have to cut my threads in the front but I have a feeling I may have ti shave a couple of mm off. We'll find out soon I guess!

So on closer inspection, 3 of my wheels weren't straight! Took them to a repair place and they advised weighing them in... so I did on the way home! Got £40 back. Seller has gone suspiciously quiet.
Ah well - you win some you lose some. I've lost some cash but learned a lesson. And it just so happens that a set of the wheels I originally wanted (but couldn't find for sensible money) just popped up on our favourite auction site! They're Paisly Freighting their way to my ass as we speak. I've gone for the universally despised SC430 'pie-dish' wheels... i know - but i think they'll look awesome against the massive flanks of the LS. Just need to save some cash for some tyres now! 245/45/18 are the most likely flavour.

Loving the 400 mate..what happened to capri??its been a while since iv been on here Still got the Capri - was using it about a year ago till the MoT ran out. It's hibernating now! With baby number 2 landing in around 5 weeks, the Lexus is the sensible (300hp V8) car!

Hi guys - there's someone selling a set of 18" wheels with tyres. He said he can strap them to a pallet but I'll need to arrange collection - who would be a good company to use? Not done that before. Looked at paisley freight but, as far as i can tell, the wheels need to be individually wrapped for that company Cheers
