Thanks gents. That looks a rather nice space to play in. It is indeed - much nicer for building than the previous environment. However let's just say that's not even scratching the surface... there's a reason we moved so far The A35 even has a nicer home Will be at a certain event next weekend so will say hello if anyone also visiting.

Been a while... Joys of job chaos, 150 mile house move, and worst of all a workshop consolidation and move too. We're still fetching bits nearly 6 months later 🙄🙈 So what's new? Well the celica looks a little different but it's now in its new home

Yup as Grizz says it's interesting to see the evolution you've gone through (seemingly repeatedly pushing boundaries - and obviously negotiation skills have been polished along the way too ). We've hit the limit on where we are and so have recently gone the other way entirely (I've really lost it this time!)... all of which will soon become clear and is why I've been very quiet of late... Which reminds me that I need to pick your brains about roller doors and a few other things - will drop you a pm.

Not sure I can bring myself to like the above Phil, sad times but I appreciate you've probably given it serious consideration before coming to the above conclusion. If only I had the space myself.

It’s a long time ago since I last used them, but Bryan & Son in Tunbridge Wells used to be the place to go for traditional radiator repair. They might be able to advise on the heater matrix too. See my Celica thread, still the go to around these parts - Lloyd currently has my radiator and heater matrix for some tlc.

Been away for a few days R&R in various parts of the country so not a huge amount to update on. However as usual there has been a bit going on behind the scenes. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I have been working on resurrecting a kart project for a good mate who used to race it with his dad many years ago. Anyway with twin boys himself now and his dad sadly no longer with us, it was time to see if the pile of parts I turned into something he could have back (and in time use with the boys) actually works. So it got liberated from the shed ready for some tinkering time at the workshop - was almost as if it was made to fit the discovery Good news is that after a bit of priming it did fire and wants to run, bad news is that the brakes need an overhaul and so that prevented any proper seated testing. With 25-30hp it should be rather rapid when it gets going! In actual Celica news, I did manage a brief bit of time to pull out the 2TG one again I now need to remove what's left in the engine bay and carry on with the stripping/tidying of the rest of the shell, as well as some of my earlier... err 'repair efforts' - you live and learn as they say. I also need to tidy the storage system so I have room to work on the next stage... which was somewhat interrupted by a few days away in Shropshire where distractions included: a visit here seeing plenty of these spending the day messing about on this and wandering around this place All for the sub-plot purpose of visiting the great bunch over at MPR to discuss a future project and collect something I'd been trying to get my mitts on since Feb, which also fitted in the discovery rather neatly and should look more like to be used on the celica like this Exciting times. I just need to finish stripping a few more parts and work out a way of joining the two together now...

Some nice progress. Carb rebuild is on my to do list soon too as been putting it off for too long. In other news, the tyres are one stop closer, the inside of my car currently smells like kwik fit so they're definitely nice and new rubber

Running a bit behind on updates on this, but after a productive and enjoyable RR-related day (thanks for the company JB) sailing the discovery around a slightly drenched M25 to drop off some chrome and a few other parts and picking up various other bits for some other members at the ever helpful @grumpynorthener 's, I thought an update was probably due. So here goes for a summary of the last few days on the Celica... it all started with some tool prep, zip lock bags and a couple of manuals the other rear window was first on the hit list to carry on stripping the shell from where I left off handbrake next which connects via a couple of small bushes underneath the car the above gives a clue as to why I want this car treated - when you see the underside like this it makes me wonder what's lurking in the chassis box sections onto the headlining removal next, which asides one very annoying nick right in the middle (not my doing!) is unmarked but before I could remove it completely, the front screen needed to come out. On with removing the rather bonded in rubber then which, after a minor sniff of something I'm familiar with from doing the bathroom at home, turned out to be on closer inspection black bathroom sealant... on the positive front, the surround again seemed to be in good condition with minimal rust in most of the usual places. Just a few minor bits where the panels overlap. Taking the screen out also highlighted something I'd not noticed before, at each end of the dashboard are two retainers, except there was only one... which locates in here time for some CAD design for the drivers side then. rough template made of top and bottom sections before transferring into something a bit more whole see what I mean about the surround pitting and rust spots Will pick that up next time I'm over and make it in metal before the dash comes out to make sure the fit is good. Minor distraction over, I could then remove the headlining Sound deadening has seen better days but could've been worse. It was then on to the front to start draining the fluids, coolant first and while that drained, I removed the front bumper, brackets, infill panels and headlights. The front panels need properly welding on still as I only previously tacked them on for rebuilding to check for alignment The radiator could then be removed for a visit to a local legend, LLoyd the radiator whisperer in Tunbridge Wells. Hidden down a small alley is the most amazing of little workshops. I'm all for supporting small businesses, but even more so at times like this and you won't find a bad review about this guy, no website needed, just a cracking small business turning out spot on work. Back to the car then. Front doors followed so the chrome trim could be removed, o/s door was straightforward enough to remove the window, but as suspected contained plenty of rusted trim screws passenger side was much the same with one minor difference yup the trim kind of fell off once the window was removed... good job I've a couple of doors hopefully on their way from a sunnier part of the world. Least the chrome could be added to the pile for refurbishment. in my wisdom I thought I'd drain the oil too but made a complete mess of that as the catch pan I was using was quickly overwhelmed - oops still it means that we're good for lump removal on the next visit More soon...

Yeah that won't go in the back of the car, could borrow a couple of bits of kit from the farm but imagine it wouldn't be the most efficient way to go about things 😂 You think you've lost the plot, given this year so far I'm starting to question of there ever was one... Anyway all bits for the engine are together in a very expensive plastic storage container in the shed, they were expelled from the house due to viewings etc. ☹ Once I've finished stripping the celica and moved the shell I'm hoping to get the engine on the stand and start to build things up, although I need small bits like cooling pipes, cable retainers and dipstick tube etc. Have given up on A/C for time being as not got much response from the folk who were looking into a solution for me and how to run it with the front pulley system I've gone for. Something to come back to perhaps... although that does now mean there is room for a small snail in the engine bay... 🤔 Sounds like an Ideal time see if a nice Rover V8 fits into a celica...... I know it does 😉 It's been done a few times but not without issues. One day perhaps, or a lexus variant...

I’ve got about 18 tons of fertiliser that needs moving ? So have you got all the bits for the engine now in an expensive pile in the corner ? I’ve lost the plot slightly. I have a BIG 3 piece suite that needs moving, you know where I am ian... I did manage to get a 3 piece in the back of the disco after an inadvertent purchase by my darling wife, let's just say she had to drive home and I ended up curled up in the passenger seat after nearly having to get the train the rest of the way. Still amazed to this day we got it to fit.

Could get used to this having some time off malarkey, albeit am now working in collections and deliveries it seems 😂 So to add to the pile I've had a busy morning sorting a few things of my own... Few drop offs now before heading back to the other mistress for some more stripping action 😉🤣

Is that where you’ll be assembling it? Looks clean and well appointed, ideal place for engine building Errr sadly not... would be rather nice though Yes, but just remember a complete engine can be wider than the doorway. They are also a LOT heavier to carry downstairs!.... All noted Phil, thankfully I don't need to worry about any stairs... speaking from experience are we? Yeah but... He's moving, so a couple of bashed around door frames won't matter too much and don't forget, coming down, you've got gravity on your side! The minor flaw is that we need to sell the place first! Once we've got an offer then it's no holds barred More viewings tomorrow and so we shall see what happens, may be time for a change in strategy. That said, we've still not found anything that really ticks what we're after as a replacement, well asides a few places in a completely different part of the country where all you can see is land and sky - must confess it's becoming more and more tempting by the day! On a positive note I have potentially already sold the small garage that's separate from the house and next to our neighbours, to said neighbour... let's just say the kitty for its slightly larger replacement could be looking healthy

Was only ever going to get limited workshop time over the past weekend due to it being the season for all hands on deck to help with this Boy was it a warm one! Mind you the cold beer after each day tasted better and betterer Anyway, I did manage to make a start on the rear screen Which after a day in a rather warm shed, came out without a fight Mainly as it appears it was mostly held in place by copious amounts of mastic/sealant and not via the proper means... which I found very few of, and they mostly looked like this the good, or rather great news as you can see from the pic above, is that as a result the aperture surround is in remarkably solid condition - result. Next fight was one of the rear windows, which given it's hard to see/take pictures of while removing, came out with relative ease Definitely needs some tlc in places - there wasn't much left of guide bushing and the zip lock bags, sharpie and organiser are out, prepped and ready for more dismantling over the next few visits Everything needs to come off and various holes need to be drilled I believe, so will continue to work my way forwards and see what I find as I go.
