In short: it was hot! (I really should have listened to Baz Luhrmann beforehand... ) It was also crowded, not doubt because it was hot and it was the 30th edition. Mix that with some beer, some sausages and ear- splitting intakesounds and you've good a great recipe for a wonderful day. (and for plenty of sunburn ) So yeah, much peoples. And much earsplittingness in this one. An old VW with wide fenders is what Bergrennen is all about for me, and I'd choose that over most of the Formula cars attending the race. It just looks sooooo right charging up the hill Mister Pisano is ofcourse also a legend in his own _DSC3489 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr But, it doesn't always have to be that extreme. Just a gutted-out 306 GTI with a cage and a cool livery _DSC3512 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr There were some big teams attending (think: 4 cars, multiple trailers, a bus for all the mechanics and team members,...), but also small one-or-two-man-teams with basic gear. And a stripped-out Exige S...so still not as cheap as the 306 _DSC3514 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr _DSC3519 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr Looking at the hair, I guess he forgot his helmet on his previous run... (I'm just jealous because of my retracting hairline at age 29, sigh .... and that I'm not competing ) _DSC3523 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr The sweet sound of a B16 going up the hill, lovely _DSC3532 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr

Talking about Tokyo in another thread reminded me of some clips we shot during our MariCar tour, so I looked for them on my HD. Sound is bad, it's shakey footage while driving,... but still worth posting Just after crossing Rainbow Bridge And the highlight of the tour: standing first in line at Shibuya Crossing, a dancing Spiderman an Mr. Incredible, lots of people, lots of cameras,... I'll repeat myself for the umpteenth time: best 60€ ever, full stop, no ompetition And a couple letting two random western idiots sit in their car and rev the engine at the top of a foggy Japanese mountain. I also got to rev a Honda Civic Type-R (FD2) later that day, just petrolhead things

And Maricar ofcourse. you haven't been to Tokyo unless you've driven through one of the busiest cities in the word, in a go-kart, with neon lights, dressed up as Mario (or princess peach, whatever floats your boat ). We did it on our last night, best 60€ I've ever spent _DSC9453 by G C, on Flickr Now if you'll excuse, i'll be in the corner sulking because I won't be going back this year Topic about my trip: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/193144/when-petrolheads-japan?page=1&scrollTo=2255376Brilliant photo! Brings back memories, can't believe it's almost a year since my wife and I drove over the rainbow bridge at night on go-karts dressed as Mario and Luigi! Also sulking, I want to go back... Almost two years for me, aka "waaaay too long ago, you have to go back" Our best moment with the karts was standing at the traffic light on the first row at Shibuya Crossing, while our guides were dancing like maniacs dressed up as Spidey and Mr. Incredible, waving neons-lights and people staring/pointing/ laughing at us, taking pictures,... Words REALLY can't describe the awesomeness and i'm having the biggest smile on my face while writing this. Come to think of it, i've got a clip of it somewhere on the laptop This was one intersection earlier I believe _DSC9476 by G C, on Flickr Thanks for the reply quadrifoglio . I read and re read your thread. Fantastic pictures. You're welcome and thank you, happy to give back to the community for entertaining me with all the other topics

My mate and I have booked flights on the 21st May for two weeks. We've hired a car and planning to head south west out of Tokyo down to Nagasaki before returning to Tokyo. Really looking forward to it. We are planning on visiting Toyota Megaweb and Up Garage and Super AutoBac shops. I've tried to see what 's on at Ebisu circuit but can't find an English translation of the website. I'm hoping we can find one of the unofficial service stop car meets one evening too. I've found a Suzuki museum in Hamamatsu but can't find any reviews or many pictures of it. Where else do you recommend for a couple of petrol heads to visit? About the nightttime meetings, I can assure you that you won't be disappointed on any night of the week. Fridays should be the best days at Tatsumi, but even on other non-weekend nights the car park was full 'till ungodly hours. This was on a Wednesday/Thursday around 23.30. We left Tatsumi as one of the last around 4.30 in the morning _DSC6827 by G C, on Flickr We only did Daikoku on Sevens Day, but were too late to get a good (read as: legal) parking spot so didn't stay very long... If you've got the time I'd recommend driving the Hakone pass, which we drove in a rented AE86. Cool rentals can be had from Fun2Drive, about half an hour from Hakone: choosing between an A86, Skyline (from a Hakosuka, through a Kenmeri to an R35), Supra, S2000, NSX,... Very cool and friendly guys, they speak English and are true petrolheads _DSC7657 by G C, on Flickr _DSC9071 by G C, on Flickr _DSC7674 by G C, on Flickr And Maricar ofcourse. I'd try to make some room in my garage if they offered it to me. Hell, I'd even make room inside the house!

The next stage included "Le Maquisard", one of the stretches of road I love when driving in the Ardennes and which is also used once a year for an official hillclimb event. This time cars would be driving downhill though. Just in time to see Kris princen fly by, at that time leading the race. As you can see by the mud, he did drive on La Clémentine _DSC1942 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr De Mévius (a family with a long racing history) equally fast and only a bit behind in the overall ranking _DSC1949 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr Never the fastest times for this guy, but no problems would see him end up high in the final rankings. Smart driving _DSC1963 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr A real connaisseur of rally cars obviously _DSC1965 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr _DSC1972 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr _DSC1978 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr So, a bit older metal... _DSC2042 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr Now we're talking! The Escort of Draco, with the "Belge"-livery... which is ofcourse referring to the Belga-cars of the bygone era. Lovely _DSC2049 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr What a beauty _DSC2051 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr Golf 3 _DSC2085 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr EG Civic with the telltale exhaust note _DSC2113 bewerkt by G C, on Flickr A 400.
