I think it depends on the car. I run the highest wet grip/low noise tyres I can get on my Delica, usually Joyroads or similar and they're ace. Much better than the BFG's and another premium brand that I can't remember that were fitted before, and I cane the living daylights out of it. I also cane the living daylights out of my Clio, which until a couple of months back had 2+2 mismatched budget tyres on. It was fine in the dry and driveable in the wet but had that skittish edge that makes it a bit of a bum clencher sometimes. I switched to 4 new Uniroyal Rainsport 5s (which are still very cheap TBF, 30 quid a corner) and they are absolutely insane. In the dry they're good, in the wet I've never driven on a tyre like it. On my private test track (definitely not the A1 North past Ferrybridge if anybody knows it) it'll sit at 3 figure speeds in several inches of standing water and not feel any different to doing those speeds in the dry. I used my dad's Honda Jazz (budget tyres same size as Clio) a couple of weeks ago to take it for a MOT and nearly binned it doing 75mph over a regular standing water patch as I forgot what cars normally do in that sort of situation. [br The (Not A1) does not have ‘several inches’ of standing water (maybe a few cm’s) unless a river has broke its banks & flooded. That aside if you are doing ‘3 figures’ (as you claim) in the pi55in rain then you need to be taken off the roads & never be allowed on them again because you WILL kill someone. What a total plank

I seem to go both ways (ooher) I buy cheap tat for my van (2012 Vivaro Sportive) goes pretty well & even with cheap stuff on, can’t say I’ve had a problem, handles good, I’d throw it into any corner wet or dry with no issues. Then on my cars (weirdly) go for more expensive stuff. Not sure why, I might stop doing that

Loads of mates had them in the late 70’s in their bedroom I remember, with the ‘twig’ earthed to a Quality Street tin or some such. Then in 81 when we all got driving licences they went in the cars. I never quite ‘got it’ all seemed a bit odd to me

If it is, it’s taken more than two yrs to sell 🤦🏼♂️ September 2020 to March 2022 is more than two years? Well clearly not is it, my mistake, but if you’d like to split any other hairs I’m sure we can. The ad clearly wasn’t last week though was my point. Have a nice day

The wind uncovered this, looks like it’s been on the trailer a few years. Looks like a good basis for restoration and at least being on a trailer it's been kept away from damp ground. Any idea which model it is? Well it’s got oval headlights, so it’s probably an XL

Never quite understand that. Let’s be honest they might as well be gone somewhere (anywhere) be it (preferably) enthusiast or parts Could be a thousand reasons like the Ambleside XR2. It's down to the owner what they want to happen to them. At least they have been saved until now rather than being bailled at ten years old for scrap. Yeh I understand all that, just seems like waste, that’s all. As you say, it’s their stuff, they can do what they like. Just seems like it’s delaying the inevitable

I had to drop something off to someone earlier and spotted these two beauties. I remember them being there when I did my paper round over 20 years ago so it’s safe to say they’re not going anywhere! A Fiat 126 and a Reliant Regal. Never quite understand that. Let’s be honest they might as well be gone somewhere (anywhere) be it (preferably) enthusiast or parts

Re. Your corroded tank. I’ve done dozens this way & it really really works. Find yourself 4 or 5 good handfuls of broken side glass from a car window. You know how it shatters like on old windscreen used to? I usually nip to local scrappy & they’re always happy to give you a load, they tend to have it lying everywhere. Shove it in the tank, block the filler & shake until your arms fall off, then do it some more. It scours the metal like you can’t believe. The sharp edges on the glass really do the job. The beauty with the glass also is when you’ve done, if there are any bits that are wedged in the odd corner (which there will be) they can stay. They don’t dissolve & gob the fuel up & they are too large to get sucked past the tap & block anything. Another take on the shaking part, which I have now done a couple of times is, wrap the tank in a blanket, bubble wrap etc etc & wedge it in the tumble dryer. But beware it has to be seriously wedged & packed in there so the tank just spins around & does NOT bounce obviously. This works superbly.

How long has that been a ‘thing’ then? I’ve got two separate mates who run garages/mot stations & they both still use waste oil burners. Surely there must be hundreds of thousands of garages throughout the land using them

I’m just in the process of having a multi-fuel burner. There really is nothing like a real fire, but also it’s just that thing (as has been mentioned) that you have an alternative source of heat & cooking. By the sounds of it Grizz, you would have been in a ‘really’ bad situation without your open fire.

Heating oil it is then.. 😂 It is ?? always was. I've known a van dealer for nearly 40 years whose business is run from home & who has 5000 litre central heating tanks for a 3 bed cottage I’d guess that’s a huuuuuuge fine if not prison if the vat collar him
