Man...feels like the old days when I could count on a post a day for this build. Might have to get back on another project of my own cause now I feel like a slacker! Or I could just build a rec room and chill. Edit: I DID buy this nifty LS L33 with not real purpose other than to say I built an LS engine. With a bit of gearing and adaptive engineering it would make one amazing margarita mixer for the wrecked room!

I think you did an amazing job.
I look forward to seeing how the commercial venture goes once you pull a mold off this buck.
It is hard to say anything negative about the Miata other than "There sure are a lot of them that all look the same". You have punched way out of that objection.

So did you ever give up the day job to do this full time?

So glad to see this pot back on a boil. It was the hardest charging build on the forum until it hit a wall and you disappeared. Welcome back.

The view in the shop has changed with the departure of the Hot Rod. In its place the Molvo has come in out of the cold so that I can chip away at the "To Do" list. Chief amonst that list is to complete the AC install. The eagle eyed might have spied a pile of junk on the DS of the Molvo. It seems that I have accidentally acquired an L33 version of the LS engine. Not really sure why I dragged this home other than I wont have any projects next summer. The goal is to restore it to running on a stand and see what comes to mind. So far the list from my friends includes powering a Margarita Blender, or a Page Turner for the girlie calendar in the shop, or ( my favourite) a beer can crusher machine.

I guess the snow is frustrating, but you get used to it. Nope. I do not. I would hibernate like a bear if I could.

And just like that the electrons are obeying their commands and going to their respective coordinated and doing electrony stuff on demand. At this point the car could be driven around the block, fine-tuned and any faults corrected in order to become a driver. Unfortunately, we are expecting about 3 feet of snow in the next day or so, and future development will have to wait. The Hot Rod will be leaving its nice warm shop and spending the winter stored in a cold barn. Look for updates next April or so when it comes back for some epic tire smoke testing. In the meantime, work on the Healey will continue with the goal of getting out out the door to paint in Feb, The Molvo ( you know, the one this thread was started for) is coming in from the cold for AC ( yeah "irony" eh) and that should keep me entertained for the duration.

Overdue for an update on the Hot Rod. Time has run out and there will not be a proper road-test until the snow goes away next year. That said, it does run off the key, idles, revs and runs through the gears with the rear tires off the ground. It sounds rather terrifying actually! There is a laundry list of details to attend to, but I need to store it off-site until the snow goes away. In its stead the Molvo will re-appear for some further work. The healey will also be around for an unknown amount of time!

Pete, that last sentence is actually rather profound. At age 57, I find myself thinking that about many aspects of my life! John, in Conn. John: Please do not take that in a negative way. If you have followed this thread from the start, you would see that I have learned what I know , from a lot of help ,from of a lot of people on this and other forums. Very grateful for the help and advise. Filtering is up to me. The internet can be great. But I have reached a point and perhaps a prejudice, against perfection, in preference of just getting it done. Not that I have stopped trying, just that I am content. Pete

So incredibly tidy, everything you are doing Thanks for the compliment. You know whats funny, It does not feel like it is! I think I have plateaued at a certain level of skill and detail and am going to have to be happy with it. Pete

Better update the Healey since it has been a while. It now sports a drivetrain and the start of a wiring harness, Bit if a puzzle as I did not remove the original harness and have to so some guessing and searching to see how it fits in the car and where the p-clips attach.

I think just having bespoke glass makes most projects financially unviable before you even look at all the other details. Our local test centre openly admits that they will never pass anything first time because they can charge a full retest fee 😢😡 A re-test is £90 regardless of the fail items. All of the bespoke glass for my project was less than £200 (it is flat glass) all correctly marked. Would the new glass sold as replacements for classics not be suitable? Being in Canada, I am not clear on what your windshield requirements might be. Personally, it I were willing to brave the IVA I would expect the newer chassis and interior would cover off a lot of the items on the list for brakes, steering, and interior. Sorry, did not mean to highjack the thread and turn it into an IVA debate. I shall go back in the corner and enjoy your build.

In your shoes and with your goals, I would go down the same route that I did with my p1800es. Apply one p1800 unmolested body over top of one MX5 chassis. You can leave the MX5 operational from start to finish. In my mind, this is no different that a floor-pan repair section welded in. The finished result sailed into the Volvo show under the radar. All of the modern amenities and engineering of the MX5 under the classic body of the Volvo .

Few lines run. Never know how good the job is until you put the fluid in and try to bleed. Dual circuit brakes with a proportioning valve and booster-delete. This could be interesting. Not my design.

More bits stuck on today. Steering complete and heat reduction panels stuck on. I think I will move on to fabbing and installing and bleeding new brake lines next.

Moving along. The front suspension went on today. Had this been a modern Japanese car, the above pic would have looked quite different"
