My family has a couple of pecan orchards, and it remains a "side hustle" for my dad, advertising most falls in the local fish-wrapper. They are great to have around, but harvesting them by hand does make you appreciate why they cost what they do in the stores...

Personally, I think that looks pretty incredible. I was concerned about the fiberglass holding up to the bashing, but this is going in my bag of tricks for sure.

Cleaned the floor Got it dirty again, but it's hidden by the transmission tunnel. Had to drop the rear axle and springs to get to the rear torque box. Shopping list keeps getting longer, but at least it's all available. The mantra lately has been that as it is, it's nothing but a worthless heap of scrap, so I might as well keep going. At this rate, there's not much left to cut out of the middle of the car though...

Makes me appreciate my 66 V8 coupe I had before the Granada so much more. It was totally rust free apart from 2x6" right behind the rear wheel arch on the left... Was a santa barbara/carpinteria area car... Are you going full floor pan? As that became available some years ago. And looks likr the easiest/best fix for your situation. Every time I work on the truck I tell my son he just doesn't understand how lucky he is that it's so clean. The complete floor pan is definitely the right way to go, but I haven't ordered one yet. When the inner rockers, torque boxes, frame rails, and everything else are in place and I have a good base to weld it to, I'll probably get one on it's way. At least without a top it'll be relatively easy to drop in...

So with the truck back on the road, I can get back to the project car... After staring at it for a while this morning I figured it's all got to come out and I've got to start somewhere, so out with the torque box and what remained of the driver's floor pan, then I cut the inner rocker along the top before I remembered to take a picture Oof. Gotta order front frame rail extensions too. Sigh. Then started peeling off the inner rocker Well the outer rocker is in pretty good shape, actually...the front extension will take some rust treatment, but I think I can get away without replacing it. The back part is still trapped in with the rear torque box, gonna have to stare at it a while and formulate a plan to get that part out without destroying the rear quarter, etc. The floor was clean when I started...

One of the advantages of my age is that many of my questionable decisions predate the ubiquitous photographic and video evidence present today...there were several modifications to this that I wouldn't do today The speaker box under the package tray that had the 6x9s and subwoofers sharing space was an especially egregious example of ignorance, but the twin exhaust tips were pretty cheesy too.

After about a week of sanding, filling, sanding, glazing, sanding and so on ad nauseum trying to make it as good as I could I finally realized that I could mess with it basically forever. I wanted to see just how the color was going to go on, so I shot the back of the cab and the front of the bed. The bed turned out better than the cab - not that either will be seen, but I did figure out that many "dusting" passes are the only way to avoid runs. And being spray cans, consistency isn't a strong point. Oh well, runs can be fixed too. And then yesterday I hit the "perfection is the enemy of good enough" line. The camera does flatter it, but honestly I'm pretty happy with it. If the boy approves it (he will) we'll put the taillight, tailgate, and bumper back in place and call it done (for now...)

Thanks grizz, jonesyYou realise the work you are putting in makes this truck more and more part of your DNA every stitch you weld. It is becoming the unlikely “keeper” in your collection. In reality, this was always intended to be a "keeper" for my son, not for me. That seems to be taking root, although I'm understanding that he doesn't (yet?) have the same fascination with the way things work that I do. That's ok, and if he grows into being a "car guy" at some point that's great - if not, at least he has some idea of the amount of work I was willing to put into this for him. And he is excited to get it back to "daily" status - if the weather cooperates he'll be able to take it to school next week. We did find the paint color - we think so anyway. It still feels a little wrong to put this much effort in then hit it with a spray bomb, but we can always come back and spray it properly (or have it done professionally) if he wants (and budget permits) at some later date.

Smear it on Sand it off Repeat Proof that most of it ends up on the floor But eventually you have to call it good enough and make it shiny enough to see how it really is And since I can't really see that I could do a whole lot better... Runs are going to be a problem, but I was planning to sand that down anyway. I must say, it could be a whole lot worse...
