As it says really, I am fitting inertia rear seat belts to my Chevette hatch and need a pair of strengthening plates with a captive nuts as the panel to mount against is not strong enough.
Any out there or no where I can get them.
Cheers

Absolutely insane, however there was something even more mad around during the 80s, It was a Reliant Robin 3 wheeler with a 7 litre ! lump in it. the rear wheels were massive and the driver sat at the back, it had permanent wheely bars as the thing used to try and back flip whenever you accelerated in it ! I think it was used for drag racing a few times but havent seen anything about it for years, couldn't tell you the spec etc as it was so long ago, if I remember rightly it was painted pea green, anyone else remember this beast? I remember it it was featured on the telly a few times but for the life of me I can't remember where.

5 door GTI is far less common than the 3dr, probably too family orientated. Which is why I bought it so I could get the kids in easy.
Off to search the web now for engine conversions for Chevette.
Cheers for the comments all

I'll look into the XE conversion as its been a while. Cost and company to do it for me will be key.
It has to be standard from the outside though

Hi, Just come across this board and after having a nosey around thought I would pop up some pictures of my two cars. 1st one is a 1989 GTI 8v, don't really have any great plans for this one other than leaving it standard (not sure if that fits with what Retro rides is about). Then I have this one previous owner Vauxhall chevette, really torn as to what to do with this. body wise it will stay standard and hopefully get a full respray early next year ££££££££, but I am not sure which way to go with the drivetrain, I would liek more power but keeping it useable daily. So will have to wait and see.

Any Chevette headlamps? The later flush style would be good.

1989 VW Golf GTI 8v 5dr
I am now selling this car as it is surplus to requirements as I can’t drive three cars, and as I can’t sell my company car and won’t sell my Chevette then the Golf has to go.
Firstly Specification:-
• 1989 5dr GTI 8v • MOT til mid April & tax til end of May • Small Bumper model • Under 94k miles (currently around 93, 300 but in daily use) Low mileage • FSH ~ VW until June 2000 at 55721 o 3591 miles ~ MCS Maidstone VW ~ 16-7-90 o 5970 miles ~ MCS Maidstone VW ~ 23-3-91 o 8006 miles ~ Maidstone Car Sales VW ~ 15-11-91 o 9518 miles ~ MCS Maidstone VW ~ 29-5-92 o 13942 miles ~ Maidstone Car Sales ~ 1-6-93 o 17924 miles ~ MCS Maidstone VW ~ 2-6-94 o 23170 miles ~ MCS Maidstone VW ~ 8-6-95 o 29496 miles ~ MCS Maidstone VW ~ 3-6-96 o 34847 miles ~ MCS Maidstone VW ~ 4-6-97 o 41974 miles ~ MCS Maidstone VW ~ 8-6-98 o 49220 miles ~ Fairways VW ~ 8-6-99 o 55721 miles ~ Beadles VW (Same address as Fairways) ~ 9-6-2000 o 63136 miles ~ Kentish Belle Garages ~ 5-6-01 o 74456 miles ~ Kentish Belle Garages ~ 10-7-03 o 84005 miles ~ Kentish Belle Garages (not stamped but I have invoice)~ 27-5-05 o 92832 miles ~ Cartech Service Centre ~ 14-4-07 • Central Locking • Sliding Steel Sunroof • Power Steering • Radio Cassette • Insurance approved Autowatch immobiliser fitted • Original teardrop alloys • Standard fit fire extinguisher
Good Points:-
• Original and unmolested 8v Mk2 GTI getting hard to find. • Lots of history and bills totalling just shy of £7000 • 8 old MOT’s • Very low mileage for an 18year old car • 4x Pirelli P6000 tyres that have only done about 500 miles • Original spacesaver spare • Totally HPI clear I have two reports one from the person I bought off the other that I did before buying. • Original Panasonic Radio Cassette fitted with an optional pull out one included in the sale. • Still has original Golf ball gearknob and 2 x original VW keys. • In the past 16 months it has had the following fitted o New light switch and light harness after a short. o RH front wheel bearing o 4 x Pirelli tyres o New exhaust o Timing Belt
Not so Good:-
I wouldn’t call these bad points but it is only fair to state them. In my opinion it shows the originality of the car and that it has never had any spray or repair work.
• NSF wing small crease under the bumper looks like it nudged a kerb • NSF wing very small rust visible just above bumper • NSF wheel arch spat very minor scratch • OSF door very slight crease under coachline and small bit of rust on lower door. • OS back panel scratch that has been touched up • Rear bumper small scuff at NSR • NSR door tiny bit of rust • Roof one tiny rust spot • Windscreen chipped but this wasn’t an Mot failure and has been like it since I bought the car. • Front wiper blanking plate for LHD, slight rust appearing around the bung. • Interior gear shift gaitor is slightly torn at the top and driver seat bolster lacks a bit of support but is not worn through.
In summary if you are looking for a nice unmolested GTI 8v this is for you and in all honesty it wouldn’t take much to turn this car into condition 1. The original barcodes from when it left the factory are still visible on the door shuts and in the boot. Everything on this car is genuine and most of the scrapes I would say are parking dinks over the past 18 years. From 1992 until 2005 this car was owned by an old lady in Maidstone who cherished it but I am sure was responsible for a few of the dinks. I know this because when I bought the car it had the stamped service history but no invoices, so on the off chance I looked up the previous owner and called her. After a lengthy chat she very kindly sent me all the history that she had held onto. The rust that I mention above is nothing more than a few millimetres each they really are small blisters.

I'm selling my 1989 Golf GTI mainly cos I don't get chance to use it much. Here are the details.
1989 5dr GTI 8v in white small bumper model. 5 owners on total. MOT til mid April (willing to put 12 months on if someone buys, but it has only done 500 miles since April), Taxed until end of May. At time of the MOT I had 4 new Pirelli P6000's fitted, a full service and a front wheel bearing. Then in the summer I had a new lightswitch and harness to the fusebox fitted as the old one burnt out at a cost of £300. I have most MOT's from 1998 and a fully stamped service history (last few non VW), this validates the current mileage of 93300 miles. The car is totally standard from with teardrop alloys, sunroof, central locking, power steering and the original Panasonic stereo (I even have the optional pull out one that I haven't yet fitted). The car is in very good condition for 18 years old, and there can't be that many in a totally standard condition left. In white the car looks just like the one that VW used to use in its 80's adverts. If your interested drop me a PM and I will get back to you. The car is in Birmingham about 5 mins from the NEC. I don't know how to get pictures up on this site so any help appreciated. Car is £1000 ono
Cheers Mull

Festerfly,
I got a couple of PS1's but I have lost the lead that connects them to the TV.
Do you have a couple or know where I can lay my hands on some.
Cheers

Whenever I have run it in a diesel I have noticed no difference especially on new engines.
However used the petrol in the Golf and while not necessary more MPG it felt more responsive. The same happened when I was unfortunate enough to have a 1.8 petrol freelander.
