Cheers inthewocit I think mine were a bit of a lucky find too. The heralds been coming along well recently. The tubs come back from being repaired and has been seam sealed, zinc 182 primed and top coated old English white.
The bulkheads also been painted, I stone chipped and seam sealed underneath and up to the top of the footwell panel to hopefully protect it where road dirt will be thown up at it by the wheels. The rest was zinc 182 primed then old English white top coated.
Stone chipping done
Primed
and top coated although I think it needs more coats (I ran out of paint ). Then I put the bulkhead and tub onto the chassis, put the roof on and pre paint trial fitted my new panels with the boot lid (the only panel that has not needed repairing or replacing . Also ive found some realy good doors to replace the mostly filler and rust originals. The frames and bottoms are immaculate and unwelded theres only some pin holes coming through from the inside on the bottom of the doorskin that will need looking at.
All the new panels fit really well, all the holes line up. I'm planning to touch in the bits that are in primer just to protect them before its eventual respray.
Cheers Andy

Well my plans for the wheels changed today, I picked up these
They are 13 x 5 1/2 Dunlop lp923's (like lotus steels but in triumph PCD
I wanted a set but had given up looking (they are rare and when they do turn up they are silly money) but these turned up for a decent price so I went for them. They even came with a set of decent hubcaps
I may paint them, they are supposed to be silver (like on this vitesse) but the paint isn't too bad so they may just go on as they are
Cheers Andy

I've been doing some more work on the engine. I tested, oiled and painted the starter motor, cleaned out the fuel pump, painted the water pump housing and fitted a new water pump and got a new oil filter for it. I've also set the tappets and got a new set of hoses.
The HIF38 is also now on, ive rebuilt it with a new set of seals and gaskets. I've also got a new K&N pancake air filter for it (standard air box wouldn't clear thre engine valences as the SU's longer than the Stromberg). Now all it needs is some oil and a distributor (going for an accuspark electronic ignition one) and hopefully it should start! (well hopefully )
Lastly I've got some seats for it
They are Corbeau classics in black vinyl (to match the good black interior I bought) they are very comfy and came out of a spitfire so should (I think) just bolt in
Cheers Andy

Cheersmk2polobloke the bodywork will remain standard with all its trim and chrome (apart form its white bumpers). The paint is original (apart from where someone has brushed what looks like dulux over the rusty bits . I'm just planning to properly paint the bulkhead and underbody and leave it looking ratty on the outside until I have the skills to do a decent job of spraying it or the money to pay someone that has. If I find some period looking bucket seats in red to match the original interior I will get it repaired and put it back in but if I carnt find any at a reasonable price I will get some in black and put the decent black interior in.
Cheers for the link ferny that website looks useful. I've just won a HIF 38 carb on eBay to replace the HS4 (its definitely a HS4) and I think a AAA needle (what's recommended for a stage one HIF38 equipped 1275cc mini)will be a good place to start. A HS6/HIF44 will fit on the manifold but it will need to be bored out (I had a HIF44 knocking around so sat it on just to see) so I think it will get it up and running with the HIF38, I can always change it later.
Cheers yorkebar your spitfire looks great and is coming along well.

Cheers guys yep I definitely won't be selling it any time soon. Ive done more work on it recently, the rear tubs gone away to be welded up and ive found an engine for it. I was planning on building my engine back up for it but it was going to take a lot of time and money (both of which I'm lacking at the moment!) to get it running again. So I started looking for another engine to put in to get it on the road so I can build mine to a nice fast road spec in when time and money allows. I had been looking for a couple of months then this one turned up 20 miles away from my house.
It came from a car that was being broken for spares. I also bought a spare gearbox, a decent black interior (to match the bucket seats that I'm planning to fit), another heater box (to replace the fan that I broke and a pair of sun visor end caps (they disintegrated as I took them off) all for £200, a bit of a barging I think. The engine is a GE small crank 1300 herald spec engine just like mine. The seller told me that it had been rebuilt 15,000 miles ago so I thought it could be worth buying. I was glad I did, when i took the rocker cover off I found really clean, unworn rockers and a fresh gasket. I then took the sump off to find a new looking oil pump and a really clean looking crank. So just to be safe I dropped a main bearing and found it to be in really good condition. It even came with a nearly new clutch! So I put on a new set of gaskets and oil seals, did the head gasket (the bores were really good) and put on my rocker cover (with a new gasket and cap) and my single SU inlet manifold. I then degreased it and gave it a bit of a paint up.
Then with a fresh set of mounts and studs for the exhaust manifold I dropped it into the car
I'm not too sure about the carb yet I may go for a HIF38 instead of the HS4 that's on it at the moment
Ive also got the brake master cylinder and the clutch master cylinder mocked up on the bulkhead
I put a rebuild kit in the tilton one and shorted and re threaded its shaft (I think they must be meant to work with a brake servo) and got it all connected up to the peddle. The clutch one clears the bulkhead bit a hole needs to be drilled for the tilton's brake pipe outlet.
Have a good Christmas Cheers Andy

Cheers sambouri your heralds coming along well, would love a hot engine for mine (insurance )
Got some tyres for my wheels
Went for yokohama blue earths in 175/70/13 in the end
Also got some panels
1x center valence, 2x 1/4 valences and 2x sills. I got them in herald 948/vitesse spec to get rid of the white bumpers (they trap water and rot the valences)
The rear tubs all been cleaned off underneath (hours with a scraper and wire wheel) and is now ready to get welded up then painted
My bulkheads come back from being welded up and ive started to prep it for paint (next weekend hopefully)
solid footwells
windscreen gutters
and tread plates. So to make sure the rear tubs mounting points lined up with the repaired chassis I put the bulkhead and rear tub on and rolled it outside
More soon Cheers Andy

Got some more done on this recently the bulkheads gone off to a professional welder to get done (due to lack of time to do it myself really) and ive started rubbing the underseal off the body (put the green paint on to make the holes easier to see)
its not too bad really the floors are mostly solid, just quite a lot of pinholes that need welding up and the wheelarches and wing fronts need repairing along with the treadplates. Got these panels to do the job
I'm just waiting for the arch repair section for the other side (its on back order apparently) Got some stuff ready to paint under the body and put it on the chassis when its done
got my wheels back from the powder coaters
I think they turned out well, I'm happy with the colour and I think £80 for the four was very reasonable
Lastly ive got a boss for my steering wheel, its out of a mk4 spitfire so the original horn push will fit
sat the wheel on to see what it look like but I will have to make an adapter plate as only one of the holes lines up
Hopefully the bulkhead should be back soon
Cheers Andy

Cheers inthewocit I saw those konis on eBay but unfortunately I didn't have any money at the time (typical ) Anyway I've been doing abit more work on the herald. My first attempt at making polybushes wasn't brilliant
But after abit of perseverance and messing about with the resin/hardener mixture I made a pair I was happy to put on the car
on the car
I've also done some work on the brakes. Upfront the callipers have had new pistons and seals and a bit of a paint up. On the chassis with braided hoses and mintex 1144 pads
At the back its had new wheel cylinders & fitting kits, EBC brake shoes, braided hoses and the drums cleaned up and painted
For the master cylinder I have bought a tilton 3/4 bore dual circuit item. After a bit of messing with the brackets I mocked it up on the bulkhead
hmmmmm some modification of the bulkhead may be required as one of the outlets fouls
Ive also found after ages of looking a dolomite 1300 inlet manifold (so I can run a single su carb). So after looking for one for ages two came up for £20
Elsewhere the wheels are being sent off to be powder coated next week (going for gunmetal grey and ive got a new set of tyres lined up. Also the engines coming along nicely and is nearly ready to go back together ( just need to buy loads of parts )
Cheers Andy

Cheers if its got drums on the front type 14 discs from a herald 13/60 or spifire with decent pads (mintex 1144 seams to be the way to go for a road car) will be better for handling the exta power of the 1500. You will need vertical links, hubs, discs and calipers to fit them to a 1200. If you want to go bigger but keep 13" wheels canleys do a kit to space out type 16 calipers from a vitesse/gt6 so you can run Capri 2.8 vented discs. As for the suspension polybushes and decent shocks (koni, spax, gaz etc) and a but of lowering make a big difference. Cheers Andy

Just a bit of an update on this I've put new uj's in the prop shaft, painted it up and put it on And I've filled the gearbox and diff with oil and luckily no leaks But I have had a bit of a problem with the gearbox mounts. I tightened up a nut on the gearbox and the top of the new mount came away from its rubber. I had a bit of a look round and there's lots of instances of new engine and gearbox mounts failing apparently new ones are not very good quality. So after looking around for a NOS pair and wondering why no one makes them in polyurethane I had a bit of an idea, I removed the rest of the rubber from the broken mount (came off really easily) and bought some shore 80 hardness polyurethane resin from eBay, made a cast from some radiator hose and made this. It doesn't look as good as off the shelf polybushes but hopefully it should work well More soon Cheers Andy
