I did one on my capri. Was about 15 pounds for the Ebay special fan which has been fitted for 2 years/10000+ miles with no problems. I then spent about 30 or 40 on wiring relays an inline temp sensor switch which I had to split the bottom hose to fit and also did a dash switch/indicator to tell me it's on.
Really easy to do and got rid of the dodgy viscous fan. Could do it cheaper if you don't want it to come on automatically
Cheers

Hi I'm in the process of stripping my capri down before I send it to a body's shop for accident repair and full respray. I want to remove the external trim. Has anyone got any top tips or recommend any tools to take off trim like the window surrounds and to remove the glass? Here's a pic of the car in question... before it was damaged! Cheers Josh

I use Google sheets (Google's version of excel) as I can access on my phone really easily as I have a Gmail account. It's also in the cloud so can do some thinking at work or other places using a laptop
I'll use it to write a list of tasks that need to happen and I can add and mark complete as needed.
It's then pretty easy to turn the list into a high level project plan by sticking in dates or hours along the top of columns then either filling in with an "x" or adding colour to the cells. I do this at work (I'm a project manager) when doing high level plans before it goes into Project.

Gutted mate
Just stick to your guns on the insurance. It isn't your fault so get a hire car as it puts some pressure on the insurance company as you will have something they are paying for daily.
Good luck with it all

Posted by the owner on another forum "They cut the steering wheel and bent it to get the disklok off, it's not the full wheel one but the grey bar with the yellow camp on the end. Still must have taken some time and effort to bend the wheel, I couldn't bend it back into shape once the CSI had been yesterday!" Thanks mate just saw this on capripower

So glad this is back I've got an xr3i and also had a capri stolen before so know the feeling albeit my capri didn't have a happy ending. One question I have to tru and help my security on my xr3i was it am actual disklok or was it a different wheel lock as would think it would be bloody difficult to get a hacksaw to the wheel with a disklok on. Want to know if I should be beefing up security in any way
Cheers

fabulous! Thanks for posting these up, looks like a brilliant event. Is it a regular thing or was it a 'one-off'? Couldn't resist posting this from your album, right at the top of my 'want one' list of cars..... Just realised I didn't answer your question... They seem to do them a couple of times a year and at different venues (Southbank is the other one in London). Have a look on the website classiccarbootsale.co.uk/ By showing the car I managed to get free entry then early access to all the traders. Would recomend it as a cool way to spend the day (especially if you or your other half likes vintage stuff)

Looking nice after all the work, I'm happy to pay my own travel costs to come and remove that bloody sticker on the rear bumper Hit it with a hairdryer and it should shrivel up and come off Haha I'm sort of attached to it now. I like the way someone has ironically scraped it off after it was stuck on.

Yeah it was great absolutely perfect as I said in the earlier post I got to look at the cars and she got to look at some tat. She managed to buy this bad boy... I mean what more do you want than a porcelin poodle handled brush. I got speaking to the owner of the 260z, he was a nice chap and this had only just been imported. I hadn't realised there was a 240, 260 and 280z before chatting to him. It was really nice, I love the shape of them and the wheels, soooo cool.

Hi although not much to update I thought I would throw in a few bits and bobs that I've managed to do. The car has been great since last update been using for the commute into work and starting to rack up the miles. Only issue is that I think the tyres are rubbish as its wheelspins pretty easily in first 2nd and has rubbish turn in especially in the wet. The tyres are a rubbish brand so will need to address at some point First on recent things I've done was to renew the air filter and change the air filter housing as was missing some clips I then had to prep the car for a show on Sunday so gave it a wash and sortof polished it before it rained on Saturday. When it did rain and this showed up a few leaks in the boot. One was from the rear window seal and it was also leaking from the rear lights. As the LHS light had a crack in a la: I thought best to change it. This showed up someone had gone to town with some heavy modifying by putting tights over the rear lenses at some point, the remenants of which were still fixed to the back of lense. Unsurprisingly this was soaking well so was a good source of water access. And replaced to look like this... (also shows beading as a result of polishing!) Annoyingly has a bit of a chip but can't really be seen The otherside I thought I'd check aswell. The previous owner had siliconed it into place and there was some dodgy wiring. I decided to tidy up wiring and replace the light lense. Whilst it rained on Sunday, I also soldered on a decent connector onto each 6x9 in the wooden rear parcel shelf and tidied up, then trimmed of the excess cable so that I can remove the parcel shelf with ease. Anyway the reason for the polishing was a classic car boot in Kings Cross Finally who knew chewy would smell this good! Cheers for reading, more pics of classic car boot in general section Cheers Josh

I went out yesterday to classic car boot sale at Kings Cross so thought I’d share. It was set in the redeveloped area around Kings Cross with loads of cool old industrial buildings and obviously the new Kings Cross Station and St. Pancreas. The premise was a mixture of vintage style traders and classic cars and personally I thought it worked really well as my gf loves vintage stuff and I love cars. This was made 100x better by the weather being glorious on Sunday. I’ll post a few pics below and leave the link to my photobucket album if you want to go through the rest! So day started with arrival at 8.30am and parked up right in the thick of things… This drove in behind us then parked up Breakfast from the cool Mk2 Transit Ambulance before the site opened Washed down with a coffee from here Cool Commer 2002 Touring Jensen This Merc was awesome photos don’t do it justice 2 door Cortina Lunch From this GMC I loved this 911 probably not helped by some of the posts on here! Cool Mustang This merc just pipped my XR3i as youngest car Loved how jacked up this is! Another Porsche that I loved Really nice Renault 4. I really like the slightly rusty headlight, I think it sets off the face Another Face… although not a car! Got a bit busier! And as promised if you’ve got this far have a look at my album for some more pics s798.photobucket.com/user/westycapri/library/Classic%20Car%20BootyCheers Josh

Love this. Its very cool. I've not got a clue about the engineering going into it but is threads like these which go into some detail which really help. I may of missed it but apart from the diff what else have you got to do?
Cheers

Great choice of motor! As a Radiant Red '90 spec XR3i owner i can highly recommend a Radiant Red '90 spec XR3i Nice one mate I like being part of the gang! Bit of an update from me... Gave the car a service on Saturday... First of all had to pop the bonnet as the cable had come off. I ended up putting a cable tie like so to hopefully stop it happening short term like this Once I was under the bonnet I started making my way through the pile of parts... I didn’t quite get all the way through due to time constraints but did manage to change Water Pump, Cam Belt, Alternator belt, Thermostat and gave it fresh coolant Alternator Belt needed doing…
Frustratingly the air filter I purchased is wrong and the right one is a bit of a curse word to source, luckily managed to find it on ebay. I’ve never had to put back such a disgusting filter before
Also the fuel line was just darn right dangerous running across the whole engine bay. It was curse word fuel out when disturbed so I also swapped it and the fuel filter. When I put it all back together it was tapping heavily I thought curse word I had buggered it! I then re-did the cambelt to check it all out, then I thought about it and because the car was nose up in the air there was some oil starvation, so I topped up a bit of oil and let it pump some oil around then all was good again. That left me with coil, air filter and spark plugs left as I had to shoot off down to brighton for a night out Saturday and wander around Sunday Monday I was also fed up of the exhaust so went from this…. To this… although still got the rubbish "ouch" sticker falling off but suprisingly difficult to remove Tuesday and I was still car orientated in my day.... on the way into work the rev counter died and car was down on power, I limped it to work and couldn’t see anything obvious, so I then gave up took it to a local garage to asked for advice. After speaking to them I tried swapping the coil pack in the car park which didn’t work and then noticed some dodgy wiring and again it didn’t work. By this time I was late for a meeting so had to leave the car at the garage. It ended up being 2 of these culprits (see below) with wires to the coil just pushed in. The garage sorted it for me for beer money. I took it home last night and gave it its first wash in prep for Insurance Valuation photos. I took these today in between showers So all in all a busy few days next step to keep driving it, see what else breaks, fit some replacement bits then investigate some faults (e.g. Central Locking that has been disabled by removing the fuse)... I can't wait! Cheers Josh

Loving your mk4 XR3i, also loving your pictures of Crystal Palace I lived there as a kid between 1982 and 1985 in Upper Norwood near the top of Gypsy Hill. We used to go on family walks around the then overgrown ruins of Crystal Palace with huge stone Sphinxes popping out of the under growth you felt like Indiana Jones. Cheers mate CP is a really cool place had never been before my gf moved there. Love the dinosaurs in the park and there are some good pubs on the triangle. You should try and make it down for the classic car show. They open up the old track for it. I'm hoping to go this year it's on the 2nd bank holiday weekend in May
