Dad had several 124s back in the day - he's past driving now but enjoyed seeing her and reminiscing! We didn't really realise at the time just how well-built Mercedes of the era were - he had a 350 & 450SE which were also great. Later he had a 300TD 210 which was one of the worst cars ever - leaky, rusty etc. - as John Haynes, who looked after all of them, famously said 'it's taken Mercedes 100 years to learn to make a bad car' I've run a DMS SL55 daily for the last 10ish years and it's been great - a really proper car - though I did have to paint the rear arches for rust at about 8 years old which would never have happened in the days of yore Anyway, I digress! Cheers Matt

So the (short) backstory is here... forum.retro-rides.org/thread/214515/1990-mercedes-w124-300ce-surrey?page=1#post-2606337Gawd knows what the longer backstory is! I bought her to aid a mate with builders in, skips everywhere, a neighbour / boundary dispute going on, etc. - his words were literally please come & take it away as soon as you can. I asked one question only to supplement the 2 phone pics - how many miles? 80k or possibly 130k was his confident (albeit in hindsight slightly absent-minded!) reply Got dropped off, jumped in, all looked OK but what's this? 180k miles! Hey ho, it's well preserved & still not expensive, so let's crack on back to the office Drives well, all taut & tidy, v comfy, decent grunt from the simple 3L lump, all gearchanges nice & smooth. Lots to love Third of a tank, v economical - didn't use any from Nettlebed back to Guildford - ah, gauge not working then, pop £50 in! Still - can always go by the odo... Pop a quick ad up. Ah, mileage hasn't changed for the last 10 years!!! Since then I've done a few hundred miles in great comfort, and with all 4 windows & the roof open it's lovely on a warm summer day. I'm partial to cars that underpromise & overdeliver, so I'll keep her, fettle the few bits she needs done, and run her for a while. In parallel I may try to get to the bottom of her history and join the dots better as to how many miles she has done. At present the history 'file' comprises a slightly crumpled V5, and precisely nothing more! We'll see how we go! Cheers Matt PS wonder whether the builders were rented in for the day just to get rid?!

Could you not relocate the toolbox to directly behind the cab? Or would it still be too short for motorbikes.? Make it removeable?😊 Yes think the ideal would be to have it front or rear mountable / not at all Will investigate & report! Cheers Matt

Why does it have an Ikea shelf on the tool box? Sadly the file (while voluminous) gives no clue Looks a bit like a BBQ grille, but other than as a base to bungy to, it's useless!!! Tool box while cool also acts as an impediment to rear loading for motorbikes, I'll look into removing it as will be much more usefuller Still gets 90+% on the amazescales though Properly love it! Drives so well Cheers to all Hippy Matt PS 5spd

That did indeed do it - next brakes Watch this space!!! Cheers Matt Shadow brakes - is that not a massively bank balance reduction programme on these - or is that just a myth ? If at a dealer with an open chequebook or you're afraid to wield a spanner yourself yes - I'll save any celebration till we're all done but hoping that a combo of getting stuck in plus sensibly measured specialist help will see all kept proportionate Then it's over to you for paint when your schedule allows Cheers Matt

^^^ Henley today, having done Guildford Lewes Ripley Henley in comfort & quite economically too - was meant to be a vid to aid social distanced selling but kinda fell in love - much like my old ML320 I adore cars that deliver way more than one has any right to expect! Peace out Cheers Matt

Sorry no longer available - basically I bought it to help out a mate, I've done a few hundred miles in it since Thursday & love it to pieces - the 'user & improver' will be yours truly! No idea how many miles it's done, triangulating all data 225k at a guess, but it's lovely and deserves to be looked after and enjoyed I'll get a thread up presently All best Matt
