I remember years ago in, I think, Fast Lane magazine they had a XR4i which they spent a mountain of money on ‘tuning’ the engine by conventional methods, cam, porting etc etc and it made next to no difference to the power. Back in the early 1990's, I found myself needing a roomy and comfortable 4-door car, so I went out and bought a lightly used Sierra 2.8i 4x4 Ghia Estate with a Turbo Technics kit on it. I never got it dyno'd but the the previous owner told stories of it being a bit special and apparently used as a development car, he reckoned 'over 300hp'. I doubt that this was true, but it really was alarming quick when you prodded it, not just 0-60, but 50-130+ in 5th was insane at the time, hugely flexible and torquey. It made nice noises too and was pretty frugal to run. I eventually traded it in on a Sapphire Cosworth which until it got the GGR treatement felt quite slower and rather dull.

Book it in for an MOT, drive to the station, regardless of the result, you can surely drive it home ? I'm not sure that you have to take it back to whence it came

Had a BX as a loaner car for a couple of months back in the mid 80's when my company Astra was being fixed.
It was an exceptionally quirky thing, with a dash that looked like something out of a Buck Rogers movie and seriously odd controls.
Beyond its oddity, I remember the ride and the seats, both were simply awesome on their day. When I finally got my car fixed I handed the BX back rather reluctantly, the Astra was horrible to drive and the seats were awful and the ride jarring in comparison. I really did love that BX, but oddly I never had another one - when I had the chance to get one a few years later it was right at the end of its run and being replaced by the larger Xantia which did not really fit my need at the time.
I still look at BX's from time to time, but have zero need for a car at this point.

But then ebay screwed me over an I have ended up with another project. In the form of this ultra rare, but ultra fcuked Rover 2400 SD Turbo diesel! I had to triple check the plate on that, I had one just like that when thane company decided that all company cars were to be diesels. Mine was that colour, but the plate was, from memory AnnnBNR I think. Only had it for about a year as I sponged jobs, but it was lovely to drive and the low end grunt was epic. Really looking forward to this one.

Thanks for sharing mate what engine was that running It was built by Kurt Billinski - he blogged the entire experience here - kimini.com It only looked like a Mini, it was a scratch built roll cage with suspension and engine mounts, wrapped in a cool shell. At the time I took those I was living in California and became friends with Kurt, somewhere in the mess of his diary and the cncpcis archive there are details of the first track day, I also hold the dubious honour of being the first track day passenger, where I uttered the words that would eventually kill the project - 'Handling and brakes are awesome, it could handle more power'. Kurt sold Kimini and embarked on a multi-year build of a much simpler car - midlana.com which apparently was all my fault.

Just caught up with this - back in the day I had a TL1000S with Scorpion end-cans. Somewhere along the line I did the wiring bodge to give me full power in all the gears..
The thing was totally wild - and that is coming from someone that daily's an MT10.
I sold it to a poor unsuspecting young man who sold it on very quickly after soiling his undies a few too many times.
Cannot wait to see (hear) this thing...

First off, glad you are able to tell the story, secondly despite your assurances that everything is repairable, I am not so sure that wheel looks like it is going to roll again. What happened

Is there any chance that it has just fallen out of sync ?
I had an Land Rover that would just simply fail to sync every so often, from memory the way you did it was to......
- Stick the key in the ignition and turn it to position one. - Turn it off and pull the key out - Press and hold the 'Unlock' button, while holding it, press the'Lock' button three long presses, then release the lock button. - Stick it back in the ignition and turn to position one again. - Wait five-ten seconds - Then try to start it.......
While this may be different for your Rover, I am sure that all of the keys / fobs and electrics came from the same place, so it may not be hugely different.

I had a black turbo for a short while back in 1996 I think it was.
Very quick car with massive amount of torque steer, but it was awesome fun.
It was a loaner from work between assigned company cars, for a month or so I actually considered cancelling whatever it was I had ordered and keep it, then someone drove into the back of it and by the time it was fixed, I already had my new car (Saab Cabrio). It was fun and you almost never see them - its great to see one being resurrected......

I had what was probably one of the first UK 156's as a company car. S***DFC, it was a black 2.0 TS.
The fuse box cover fell off a lot, the passenger electric window was hit and miss, the climate control was tragic, the stereo barely adequate.
I managed 40k miles in two years and nearly all of them made me smile. I adored it and was genuinely sad to see it go.
I'm not sure I would want to Owen one, mine had a lot of out-of-schedule work done and it did spend a lot of time being fixed, I hate to think how much it actually cost Lex Leasing.....

Good god that looks like a lot of work.
The 'this is pretty much what it looks like now' photo at least shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel, but good grief man....

I wonder if it would look better with the longer arches on the back ?
Like others have said, a little rotation and they are going to be awesome, but I cannot help but think that the shorter ones that are taped to the back might suite the front more - effectively the ones that is on the back stick on the front on the other side and the one that is on the front stick on the back on the other side ?
I dunno - I love the arches and the car is awesome - but at the moment I am struggling with the cohesion a tad
