With a working odometer, I can now report that after 205 km i used 19,73 liters of gasoline. Which give me a km/l of 10.39 I have no idea if that's good or bad. But I think I can do better! The car was smoking a lot out of the exhaust and I didn't see the coolant lower or the engine oil drop. So its probably gasoline. The car can also run lumpy when I start it in the morning. Some random stranger in a Facebook group described the same behaviour and that he fixed it with a new fancy fuel pressure regulator. I actually tested mine (pulled of the vacuum hose and looked for fuel). But it can still be faulty. So I bought the fancy one and installed it today along with some new (much needed) hoses. I'm quite excited to see if it helps with the smoking and gives me better fuel economy.

Driving around without a working fuel gauge, trip and odometer. Made it a little difficult, to estimate how long it takes, before the golden barge stalls due to an empty tank... 😬 And now that I have a working tailgate ,it's time for a little quality of life improvement. Sadly I had a look at the fuel gauge. An to be honest, I had absolutely no clue what i was looking for or how to fix it. I watched some nice videos on the tube, explaining what was going on. But with the instruments out and the multimeter hooked up, nothing was as it were on the videos. So I'm gonna have to revisit that one. Anyways, out with the instruments! Find the broken cogwheel thats responsible for the broken trip and odometer. And replace with new uprated parts. The light dimmer looked pretty bad, so gave that a clean. And tested the resistors as best I could with my limited electrical skills. It seemed fine, but then again, it also worked 🤣 Before: And after: It's working a little weird after that, so maybe it wasn't as good an idea as I thought cleaning that up... Also with the glass off I could finally get the nasty dirt out of it! After that, I got it assembled again with a few mods. And now I can finally see how horrible it is on gas...! 🙈

Now that's a cool car 😁 love the very 80's instruments! How does the rear door open, slide or suicide?

I'd never have thought to deconstruct a lock barrel, glad you did the learning on my behalf on the painting. If it starts sticking again it's generally preferred (at least the locksmith told me) not to use grease on locks, as grit and dirt can bind to it, and instead to use graphite powder. Just be prepared to be cleaning graphite up for days. Ramblings over, good to have functional locks again! Thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind if I get trouble with dirt in it. I was hoping the grease would stop the bare metal from coroding further. As well as making things go smoother.

Being the proud owner of a massive estate. One of the first things on the list, was a trip to the tip! With the rear cargo space fully loaded, I made my way to the recycling station with all my trash nicely sorted. Only to find out I couldn't open the rear hatch... This was a really bad time as the car was stuffed. I have a safety bar installed so dogs and other stuff won't fly in to the passenger compartment when I brake. So I had to fold the seats and pick as much as I could out that way. When I had cleared a path to the inside handle I had to somehow lie on my back and snake my way back to the handle so I could push I open from the inside.. I'm sure the recycling personal enjoyed themselves watching, but it was a bit unfutunate for me... I however, took it as an opportunity. The trunk lid rattled when I closed it. The outside handle didn't work properly and I could not unlock the tailgate with a key, since it was coroded inside the lock cylinder... The rattling trunk lid was solved with a repair kit which sorted the mounting holes. The outside handle for the tailgate was blasted, painted and new spring and mounts were installed The lock cylinder was quite a learning experience. I had no idea how they worked when I started. But now I sure do 💪 This is after I bathed it in acid. I bathed it for too long, so I lost some material I could have saved. I removed and cleaned the little springs and pins. Painted the cylinder and barrel.. this was another bad step. There was no room for the paint. So I just forced it in to scrape the excess paint off. And kept manhandling it until I had free movement. This was also an issue when reinstalling the springs and pins. There was no clearance for the pins to move, so had to scrape that off too.. I guess life is one long learning experience 🤣 Very much to my own suprise, i actually got the lock back to working order again. Here it is completely covered in grease. Also greased up the tailgate mechanism and adjusted it after installation! Now everything is working very nicely!

Hey guys
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned. 4 pages was too much to go through. But if you are feeling like experimenting a little. It's actually quite easy to see how much ethanol there is in your fuel.

These are good looking estates. It's going to be interesting to see how this ends up.

This is a bit embarrassing... But finally got done extending the wires for the lampda sensor... The amount of time and tries this has taken me is ridiculous 🤣 I (obviously) blame my tools! This set has served me well since I got it as a present in my childhood.. But even if my life was on the line. I just could not get the soldering wire to melt into the lampda wires.. In the end I used a lighter.. really professional... I know, but it got the job done! Don't even get me started on the hassle it was, reusing the cable shielding 😅 I have ordered new tools and supplies for when it's time to look at the fuel gauge and other bits of instrument cluster.. in the hopes of it at least giving me a chance of fixing it 🤞

Lifted the car up again, so I could sort the lampda probe. That gave me an opportunity to check out the undercoating.. It's golden! 😁 Now the car has the same colour above and below 😎💪 So awesome!

Got it tracked: And put on some new tyres. Asked the garage to swap the lampda sensor. But the one I bought had too short wires so they put the old one back on. They must have done it better than me, because the light went out again 🤣😅 anyways, I have a spare now in case it happens again! Got it professionally undercoated and cavety threated at Pava. So it should last a long time now!

It's nice to see another old boxy car on here getting a bit of love.
What's the plan with this one?

Well... On the plus side, the brakes are working after I vented them! Unfortunately, the lambda light came on during the drive... But that could help solve why the car is so smokey, so it might not be all that bad. Also the fuel gauge is dodgy and the car can't count km. So it's gonna be exiting to see when it's going to run out of fuel 😅 I could always keep a wooden stick in the car for measurement. There's room now that the tailgate woodblock is retired 😂

So, here we are.. time for the maiden voyage! Got some temporary license plates and packed myself a survival kit! Obligatory first pump stop picture Car ran ok, but brakes like plop.. gonna try my luck venting the brakes again.. but the pedal can bottom out.. so I fear it's the master cylinder... 🤞

Found a big hole in the catalytic converter. So replaced the exhaust. And a comparison, though exhausts always look bad pretty quickly.. And with that swapped, I could finally call it done! Why on earth I've spent so much time and money on this old thing, I just can't tell.. But now I have a great old golden barge 😁 It's rough around the edges still, and needs lots of small things sorted. But it's at long last ready to be driven. Just need to get it tracked, swapped new tyres and get it "synet" or a mot if you will. I guess it's only ready ish 🤣 March 2021: January 2022:

Big milestone today! Interior is back in and got the car cleaned 💪 Just need to do the windows and maybe rent the carpet cleaner again to do the trunk. Also swapped the stereo with an old one I had laying i the garage.. it had some music from ten years ago on a SD card, so that was a trip down memory lane.
