God it's nice to be back retro motoring in something that isn't stripped out and track prepped! Seems it's also rare enough and retro enough to get centre stage at Caffine and Machine - got to be the cheapest way to manage that!

I do like the irony of having VW wheeltrims ! The ability to drive over speedbumps at any speed you like may change your need to lower the front. Nice save. James So true, makes keeping up with traffic a lot easier when you don't have to slow down!

Blimey, yet again months have gone by and I haven't made an update on this one. I took loads of photos of what I've been up to, but it's been so long that phone has died, so not photos of it all! But to summarise: I've given it a full mechanical refresh, with all new brakes (hoses, lines, cylinders and rebuilt calipers). Replaced all fuel and coolant hoses, fitted a new radiator, and rebuilt the carb. New engine mounts, plus full service. Then welded up a single tiny hole on the sill, and repainted the sills and outer edges of the floor where the old paint was coming off. I'm leaving the rest as is, this one is going to wear it's life and age - survivor style. Have tarted up the grill and bumpers plus new plates though. Mods wise, not a lot save some Beetle wheels (£50! With new tyres, proper bargain) and a little bit of front end lows (might lower it all round as sits a bit high still). Plus have a retro roofrack to go on. This one is all about making something a bit cool, for very little cash. Somehow all the parts for these are dirt cheap, with many being on Autodoc - so the parts for the refresh have come to about £300! So there we have it, costs so far are just under a grand, proper cheap. And yesterday it went for it's first MOT since 2005 and passed with flying colours! Now on to some cleaning and polishing - child No.1 is now old enough to put to work 😁

Have this adjustable roof rack that could be cool for someone's project. Rack itself is straight and rust free, the feet are soild but could do with a clean up and paint. £30, near Warwick, CV37

175 80 14 Falken tyres, week 47 2020 date stamp and have done all of 30 miles! Have gone to a different size and no real use for these, so bargain for someone. £40 the pair? Collection from near Warwick.

Complete 2ltr engine with ancillaries, relatively low mileage (86 thousand) and great runner. Taken out of a mk1 Focus Ghia on 21st Oct, car scrapped due to rotten subframe. Was well serviced and seems to be in very good condition (car was my daily for a year). Was going to save this for myself, but far too many other engines laying around so moving it on. £300 Stratford-upon-Avon

Set of 4 CR65 crossply racing tyres, size 550M-14 These are perfect for giving that retro racer look, and are great fun to drive on too! Good tread and stored in dark,so good life left. Was running on the Capri, but sadly they were just a touch too baloon like on the front. Because of this two of the tyres have a grove in where they caught the suspension when test run. It's only the edge of the rubber so they appear to be totally fine, but this is why am selling cheap. These are crazy money new, so bargain for someone. £100 ONO Stratford-upon-Avon

So seems I'm in modified/Wild S13 class rather than Libra (S14) - but being over 2L not sure what this means HANS and in date harness wise since the changed a few regs in 2020 year book. Anyone any ideas?
If I need a HANS and to get belts in date I'll probably pass as I'd rather do 4 track days than spend a load more of safety equipment for 5 mins of (admittedly competitive) hill runs.
And yes I know all the benefits of HANS, just don't see why their forcing it on cars that are much safer than high powered 'stock' cars that can run in lower classes, or indeed the A-E historic stuff. That and forcing low usage per year, relatively slow cars to need in date equipment just smacks of money generation for equipment suppliers rather than giving a significant benefit in safety to the average grass roots competitor. (*climbs off soap box)

Awesome, this sounds great. Actually gives me a reason to renew my license this year. Thank you guys for continuing to push on expanding all the work you do under the RR banner 😀
Think I'm all good car wise as can't see the roll cage diagonal requirements I thought were coming in 2020.
Some questions for the mix;
- do modified and outlaw (libra) cars nesd to use a HANS devise?
- guess harnesses don't need to be in date as running hillclimb regs?

Need me to bring a spare? Will be in the paddock with you! That’d be awesome! Yes please! I’ve ordered a couple as soon as I realised, but can almost guarantee they’ll show up on Saturday Will see if I can find a couple then 😀
