This wasn't planned, it really wasn't. I've the Capri still not quite there, the Toledo to finish and a rotten CF camper thats only halfway through a weldathon. Even a simple extra job isn't sensible. But it was so cheap... You know when you keep an eye on ebay whilst watching the telly? And how sometimes you stick a starting price bid in, just for the hell because it'd be silly cheap at that price? Yeh, well thats how I ended up with another project, woops.... I did think about using it as as the next 'HEAP Racing' project, but well its turned out to be such a bargain that it's too nice for that level of chopping about. And now Lauren has seen it and realised that for once I haven't bought a rotter, and becait has a lovely patina to it, it seems it's fate has been sealed - an oily rag resto (with a dusting of mod) it is. It runs and drives oddly well, so a damn good service, full brake rebuild and a bit of fettling and a summer fun car will be had.   And how much was this slice of Patina'd Eastern Block utilitarian loveliness? 500 notes, so will beat the Project Cheapskate Toledo hands down when it comes to being a solid, road legal RWD retro! |

Fond memories of one of these. A mate had one when we were in 6th form in about '97, I seem to remember its  hanging out a fair bit. Good fun! |

That looks the same colour as my old 130 (became a 136) rapid. Good little car when it wasn't being killed my the idiot owner who gave it death everywhere.
Not sure if the 120 has the semi trailing arms or not, I have a feeling if it is 5 speed it does... Anyway the rapid has 4 pot calipers and on the front that might be worth looking at. I always thought it would take a lot more brakes on the rear with a nice disk upgrade, the rear hub bearings have to be seen to be believed, twin race self alighing on the inside.
Keep the updates coming be a nice blast from the past.

Sweet, I had a C reg Rapid in the mid '90s. Paid £190 with tax and test. Great little motors, that really don't deserve the reputation that they got.

Well something very odd happened today, Lauren chose to wash a car, without any promting. She's really taken to the Skoda, so much so that she's taking the lead with what mods we're going to do. With that in mind, spot the first mod - sure it's a bit old hat these days to run a rack, but totally suits the vibe of this thing. Plus it has perfect matching patina, and like the car was too cheap not to at £20. The wash has shown up some bits of stuff that need a little work (remove some nasty old touch up paint) and a tiny hole in one sill, I honestly can't believe how solid it is! Plus noticed it's still got the original dealer srickers and rear plate, sadly the "RAC winner" sticker is pretty worn out, but cool it's still there.   |

C360PTN...... Never lived to an MOT!  Smashed up the bum, by the Metro Centre. 130LSE so all the bells n whistles  4pot + radius arm [rapid] rear sussy. .... mods? Replace all rubber hoses, especially the skinny radiator bleed! I put in a fan override as the rad sensor could be 'cool'(front) but engine 'boiling'(rear)... lol  OVIMOR |

Had a rally prepared 120, many moons ago, it died at a junction, shunted in the back by a seventeen year old lad and his mates in a Mk 2 XR2, the lad had only passed his test a few days earlier.

James Very good to know, was thinking of fitting the sensor on to engine outlet, but this would be much less work! |

Blimey, yet again months have gone by and I haven't made an update on this one. I took loads of photos of what I've been up to, but it's been so long that phone has died, so not photos of it all! But to summarise: I've given it a full mechanical refresh, with all new brakes (hoses, lines, cylinders and rebuilt calipers). Replaced all fuel and coolant hoses, fitted a new radiator, and rebuilt the carb. New engine mounts, plus full service. Then welded up a single tiny hole on the sill, and repainted the sills and outer edges of the floor where the old paint was coming off. I'm leaving the rest as is, this one is going to wear it's life and age - survivor style. Have tarted up the grill and bumpers plus new plates though. Mods wise, not a lot save some Beetle wheels (£50! With new tyres, proper bargain) and a little bit of front end lows (might lower it all round as sits a bit high still). Plus have a retro roofrack to go on. This one is all about making something a bit cool, for very little cash. Somehow all the parts for these are dirt cheap, with many being on Autodoc - so the parts for the refresh have come to about £300! So there we have it, costs so far are just under a grand, proper cheap. And yesterday it went for it's first MOT since 2005 and passed with flying colours! Now on to some cleaning and polishing - child No.1 is now old enough to put to work 😁    |

I do like the irony of having VW wheeltrims ! The ability to drive over speedbumps at any speed you like may change your need to lower the front.  Nice save. James |
