Yes,the shorter steering arms did make the steering quicker and also heavier but only at parking speeds.I've not noticed any squealing from the front tyres but that's probably down to only having a 1300 crossflow in it at present. I've never had the chance to compare the Cortina arms against the Anglia ones but I've always been told the Cortina ones are longer. If I make another pair I'll only make them 12.5mm (1/2") shorter but I would also make the steering box and idler arms 12.5mm longer to keep the higher ratio steering plus it would also allow me to move my engine and box forward enough to clear the bulkhead. Looking back at earlier pics of the inserts they did come with new locking caps.

I will be trying to make a brake pipe to go from one side of the engine bay to the other which I should have done before putting the engine back in.

This should be a feature in a magazine both for the actual event and the high quality of the photos.Stunning on both counts.
I may have to have a 3 hour dawn drive around Dudley one morning. ;D

2 MGs both looked fab Those are JBA Falcon kit cars, not meant to resemble any particular marque I don't think. No idea what it is but I like I think this is a Marina based Teal kit car meant to look like a Bugatti.

Yep,I had one in my Anglia 105E and when mounted on the dashboard it managed to clear an area of the windscreen just a little bit bigger than it was. ;D
You're better off with a bottle of Anti-Fog and a soft cloth.

I measured some milton steering arms but wasent as much as an 1" shorter. But I havent measured the 105e ones yet. Yeah,1" is a little too short but it wasn't a bad guess. ;D

I'm amazed at how solid it is for a '66 and how relatively modern it was for it's day compared to my humble Anglia. It's a lovely looking car and you are truly doing it justice, keep up the excellent work.

Just one thing to say to you....... NIBBLERSThis sort fit into any electric drill, even battery ones, but you can also get electric or air powered ones. They give a very clean cut with minimal distortion and are easy to use. It's usually best to cut a large sheet down roughly to size and then trim it up neatly afterwards. It might sound like more work but it's easier than wrestling with a whole sheet and trying for accuracy at the same time.hth.

As it's only single skin where it bolts to the chassis, and always distorts,I decided to add a bit of extra strength with some 16g plates. Strengthening plates and new base "puddle" welded on. Then all it needed was a trim and an all over plastering in red oxide. The next day I walloped on some chassis black and although not perfect, some localised reaction and a few imperfections,I'm pretty chuffed with it as I think it will fit in well with a 42 year old car.

What a great post. I love seeing how others do things and am always impressed by the design and quality of parts for Japanese cars, they're very impressive bits of kit and the way they solve certain problems can be adapted for other makes. I'm looking forward to future posts.

This could well be the year of the Mk1 Fiestas as there have been some really nice examples popping up all over the place. If I had one it would have a Lotus twin-cam head on a 1300,a 60's vinyl interior,be painted in the obligatory white with a green flash down the side and sit on some 6" Lotus steels c/w shiny, shiny hubcaps. It would be low too. I can but dream. ;D

My Anglia has sat in the garage for almost 18 months doing nothing so I've decided to stick the 1300 back in just to get it back on the road and useable. This will also help with my depleted mojo levels. To make it a little more user friendly I've bolted my 2000E box to the engine for which I needed a new gearbox cross member. You can buy good quality ready made tubular ones but I thought I would try and make one a little more factory looking. This is the standard 105e one I started with. First I drilled out the spot welds and removed it's base. Then I cut it in half lengthwise. What would I do without 1mm cutting discs? Next I cut a piece of 16g steel into a rectangle and welded 2 M8 bollts through it for the new gearbox mounting and welded it between the 2 pieces of cross member. I cut some 35mm strips to fill the gap and welded them in. Ground the welds down. Made some plates to close in the bottom which should be welded on over this weekend with any luck. I also closed the ends in and gave it a nice thick coat of primer. I should have it finished and maybe even in paint this weekend.

In '84 I was tooling around in this after having a new front end put on it and a full re-spray in Poppy Red. I rebuilt my first engine for it,a 1660 crossflow, fitted with a Jondel head,Piper 270/2 cam,38DGAS Weber and a big bore exhaust. Half caged with bucket seats and a 6 clock dash. Capri front suspension, lowered 1" all round, turreted rear dampers and anti-tramp bars,Alley Cat wheels and 185/60 x 13" Pirellis. ;D May it rest in peace.
