Driving to a place to get repaired... again this is nondescript, can I drive my car with an expired MOT to my parent's 30 miles away to use their pit to repair it?
As far as I can see there are no rules against it specifically but it seems a bit vague.

I've just read through all this again, I'd like to thank useless inc for all this effort! I've had it off the road for a while but it's just some suspension bushes away from an MOT. I also need to find a garage that it can drive into, it was turned away from a local big-name because it was too low for their ramps.

Sadly not everyone gets exited about inheriting tools, so big heavy boxfulls end up on ebay for peanuts. More tools for me!

Ah, thanks for the replies guys. If it's something to do with carbs that explains why I couldn't find anywhere else for it to go. I'll have a look for the right part.

I'm midway through rebuilding the engine for The SD1 but I can't work out whether the rear crank oil seal I got in my kit is wrong or I'm just not putting it on properly. Any ideas? I can't really see how it would seal anything. The engine is a mid-eighties 'flapper' EFI as found in the SD1 Vitesse and VDP EFI, some Range Rovers and the TVR Wedges. This is the seal that came in the kit: This is how it looks with the 'seal' removed: And this is the other half of the bearing: Cheers!

What a fantastic colour combination. How is the availability of parts for these?
If I ever stop buying Rovers, Citroen is definitely my next stop.

I'd recommend fitting it to suck through rather than blow through if you have the room, you need to get a really good seal around the fan for a blow through to work well. I bought the cheapest kit from ebay and the fan and fitting kit were fine.

Looking at the MOT rules a slightly different way, what is the reason for needing a mechanical release handle? Is it just because it makes the car impractical if the battery is flat or is it a safety issue for rescuing the car's occupants in an emergency?

wonder if you can pick up a supercharged jag for a grand?... I've been watching scruffy XJR6s on eBay for the possibility of fitting the engine to one of my Rovers, scruffy ones with MOT can be had for under 1k. They're low-300bhp I think. I'm not sure you can get an MOT'd V8 XJR for a grand though.

With the windows and sunroof it sounds like it could work like the mercedes system. if you have disconnected the battery for a while it forgets where open and closed positions are. With the mercs you close the window all the way and hold the button for a few seconds then go all the way to the top and hold for a few seonds. This way the one touch nows the locations of top and bottom. I think some of the BMW sunroofs work like this as well Yep, this will stop it from beeping and restore all the functions.
