My god it's been a looooong time since I updated this thread! July 2015 to be exact... I was in a different job, the car was on the road. So what happened since then? Well the car ran out of MOT and needed welding, the original engine now smokes like the piston rings aren't sealing much and I got grand plans... which as per usual ran hugely over, mainly because of money, time, life and other cars getting in the way. So instead of going over what did and didn't happen, which to be honest I can't remember anyway. I'll just post some photos of what has happened recently and what the planned spec of the car is... Car as it stands Welding, well I guess you could call it welding... Drivers side inner rear arch Drivers side rear arch Drivers side transmission tunnel Drivers seat mount Drivers side rear sill inner, mid and outer Windscreen aperture Now for other stuff... Ditched the sunroof and sunroof tray... ...so this would fit, plus the sunroof was rusty and leaking Rear end all poly bushed, rear ARB fitted and braided brake lines throughout Oh and most importantly my old hardback bucket retrimmed Early mirror yay! Planned spec of the car... 2.3 8v hybrid engine (standard 8v head on a Galaxy 2.3 bottom end with balance shafts removed) Ashley 4 branch manifold Home made exhaust 7kg CVH flywheel with release bearing spacer (stock DOHC fly is 13kg) MT75 gearbox with solidly mounted shifter cradle Welded 7.5" diff 3.91:1 Poly/Billet diff mount Granada Cosworth 5 stud hubs, bigger brakes and thicker ARBs (front and rear) Poly bushes everything Horrid Japanese drift missile body styling Anyway that's an update of sorts. As for when it'll be "finished" and by finished I mean road legal, I want it to be at the Goodwood Retro Rides thing, so then!

I'd vote for the Omega, 3.0 and 3.2 manuals do come up for sub a grand. Absolutely fantastic cars for the money.
Or dare I say a 2.0 DOHC Sierra? Okay not fast, but the DOHC pulls really well. Although good ones for under a grand are getting harder to get hold of!

Got round to fitting the sideskirts, pretty easy just needs a little adjustment to make perfect... Then the poorly rear bumper finally expired... So I got a XR4x4 rear bumper off eBay for £30 it's not perfect, but it's better than the old one! Soooooo exciting!

You've got me worried now, I've recently had my crank pulley bolt out twice (once to do the timing chain and the second to do the head gasket) and not changed it, I've just creamed it up way passes the recommend torque/angle setting :/
Although the more I work on the twinky the more I like it lol!

Rich tempting, I don't know the colour change is a while off anyway. Anyway got the head back (oooooooh shiny)... Putting the valves back in... Weird plastic 'injector adapters' which I had to get from the dealer as they broke... New water pump... New head gasket in place... Head on and torqued up... The unholy piece of curse word has had: New radiator New water pump New gasket and bolts New genuine thermostat and a huge pile of consumables It all seems to be working lovely, although I did have a heart in the mouth moment the morning after I put it all back together. I came out of my house to find a puddle under the front bumper, I did panic a little bit. However the mystery puddle turned out to dogs curse word... YAY!!!! All working fine... I have also bought another set of 5x112 wheels from a customer at work, in my defence they were mega cheap and I've always loved Penta wheels (even if these are fairly unconvincing reps). Next job is to put the Granada hubs and stuff on, which will actually allow me to bolt the wheels on, instead of just propping them against the car with bit of wood...

The 1.5 TUD diesel is epic on fuel and IMO isn't dreafully slow, probably due to the fact they handle so well you don't need to brake lol. If want a petrol one they all have the same TU petrol engine in a variety of capacities, the 8v can suffer with HG failure between oil and coolant but other than that they are built proof and easy to work on. And yes 106/Saxos are cool! I've been thinking about the 1.5, but every single non turbo diesel I've been in I've hated lol, what would the cruising speed be like? aslong as it'd do 70-75 it would be bearable The only thing I can compare it to is Golf SDi are that was significantly more depressing to drive, at least the 106 was fun to chuck around. In terms of what they are like at motorway speeds, it's a small engined diesel French car so don't expect 5 series levels of refinement, but it'll do 70 all day long.

On the subject of 106's, whats the best 'non hot' one to get? Loving the Shuttle! Wheels and stance look spot on. I've got a red 1.4 auto (well it's on permanent loan to my father-in-law at the moment) awesome car.

Patience people, Robinxr4i has proven on many occasions he knows how to make awesome looking Sierra's. This is coming along nicely but I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes! I didn't even know he liked Sierras. Liking the RS kit plans, makes it a bit different to your previous efforts too. Haha thanks Speedle and WillCarter hopefully my ever changing plans for this, will turn out something cool. Anyway the F**KING thing need to stop breaking otherwise I'll have no time, mojo or money left to make it awesome Firstly the gear linkage snapped, which as annoying... ...but seeing as I had a spare non-leaky lower mileage gearbox with a good linkage and also the clutch had been slipping pretty much since I bought the car. It kind of twisted my hand into sorting it out properly, so out came the box and in went the better gearbox and a new clutch! Excellent, happy days, awesome, mega chuffed! Well until 2 days later, when this happened... ...the slightly iffy head gasket which was being held together with several bottles of Steel Seal finally gave up the ghost turning the engine bay into Old Faithfull So the next three lunchtimes in the works car park has resulted in this... So the head is currently off getting check and skimmed. I feel like I'm getting quite intimate with the stupid old twink. Anyway in slightly more fun news, some RS option sideskirts have turned up thanks to SparksECM I'm quite tempted to paint the whole thing matt black, which I know in general is a dreadful idea but somehow in my head I've got this vision in my head of a low matt black Sierra, gloss black wheels with as much homemade and RS option aero as I can lay my hands on. Think Darth Vader, Mad Max and Jelly Moulds....... kinda makes sense in my mind.

Headed up to Castle Combe yesterday for their usual Spring Action Day, lots of amateurs on track so excitement and diversity is guaranteed. There was plenty of retro content on track and in the paddocks too. Anyway I'm running out of guff so on with the photos! I lost count of how many sessions this Corsa was out in, it was bothering Evos and Imprezas all day long, was a shock to see it was only an 8v motor One of the Definitive photographers MX5 was looking very cool and was also smashing it out on track Serious looking Clio 16v really floated my boat Super clean Rapid was more than just a pretty face... ...I'd imagine this is a riot to drive! Proper rare Galant GTO was lovely This thing was ace! P100 proper low on Gaz coilovers with a tuned 1.8TD with TD04 and tubular manifold, had a nice chat with the owner too was planning on adding a superchager in the future. Mmmmmmm Sierra related porn. Boosted 8v Corsa, clearly built on a budget but was really nicely done This Mini looked fast on track and was cocking it's leg on every corner, once we saw it in the pits it was clear why it went so well. Turbochaged K-series which according to the power graph in the back was knocking out 217bhp Track action? Go on then...... 'that' stunning M3 powered E30 which was murdering the hill at RRG14 was being given proper death on track, lovely car and driven sooooo hard! A friend of mine Nick was out in his 3.0 manual Omega Great to see this Alfa 75 out on track more than it wasn't, looked like it went well Renault 9 not a common site anywhere, let alone a track A personal highlight of any Castle Combe Action Day is the drift sessions... This mk2 Escort was especially balls out! Dirt drops and some great entries, plus it's got a C20LET (or boosted XE) under the bonnet OMG JZ NOISES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'that' drifty 100E now packing a CA18DET This ratty Starlet was powered by either a boosted 3S or 4AGE (couldn't recognise the rocker cover but it was 4 cylinder and had Toyota on it), proper show man too was excellent to watch on track.
