That era of Merc always puts me in mind of my dad’s brothers, Alf and Don, who had a succession of them when I was a kid. Don was still driving a W123 up until the early 2000s. Interesting My dad was one of 10 kids, 5 boys, 5 girls. Mum was one of 6 one boy and 5 girls. Born in 1935/38 respectively. Two of dads brothers, drive them, one being a farmer who did over 600k miles in his diesel. One or two of mums sisters and her brother as well. Perception and reality of use in Africa I guess. Today those to me are just very basic with and expectation of reliability. And a certain emotional pull.

Take the ecu out of the case & clean it . Then put something like acf50 over it too protect it from damp . You might end up needing a new ecu . Had this on a couple of Caddy’s , if the 109 relay doesn’t cure the fault then it ends up being the ecu . 👍 Thanks for the chat and advice today. Much appreciated.

Right No. Not really right. Something silly and small still screwing around. Throttle response intermittently disappears. So starting with basics again. Disconnected battery and isolated it. Opened up scuttle again and got to the very crusty ECU Cleaned outside Then inspected plugs and sprayed with contact cleaner. All clean. Reconnected, reassembled and tested. All good. Closed up hood and started on TPS disassembly. This is three legged octopus territory. Eventually left with base minus sensor. Next job…….. Shower and shave, go to town to mobile phone shop to get iPhone 12 Pro repair done. Also visit Turkish bakers for bread and yummyness. Then off to industrial estate to try source a replacement unit for the TPS. No luck. Not kept or available So headed home and started looking. Will only know by Saturday if the spare that Sammo has, is the same and if he wants to sell and podt it to me next week. Pity no new ones available out there it seems.

Got this reply on another forum.
Making more sense now.
Every day learning
I’ve got a DJI Osmo Mobile 6, it’s a very good piece of kit and widely available (think Argos do them for around £140). The supporting DJI app is also pretty easy to understand and use.
Gimbals are great for smoothing out shots where the camera itself is moving, or for tracking shots - the DJI app can recognise specific items and follow them, good if you’re working on something by yourself and need both hands free

Two sets of pivots a right angles, they are used to stabilise something on one axis. We used them on our lifeboats, fitted to the compass, keeps it level when the boat pitches & rolls. Thanks Jimi As always you tend to really post up clear and sensible comments. I had been asked about using a gimble for my youtube videos and not clarified. I know it to be used for cooking on waterbound vessels like yachts to prevent spilling over etc. Seems this was what they meant. Looks lo be a great tool, at £70.00 upwards. Unless you find a used item. But it seems you need apps too. Me and tech are not always instant friends.

Anyone use or know what a gimbal is?
So……
Who uses or used one before?
Recommendations?

Probably solved the non throttle issue, but, i bought an sdi caddy many years ago that would often lose its throttle pedal and fix with a restart or a wait and restart, this got worse and worse then permanent. It was corrosion on the ecu, cleaning helped for a while, a replacement ecu fixed. Also a similar issue on a b5 Passat which was a brake pedal switch. Its worth taking the ecu apart, cleaning and resealing. Nope. Still there Friday. Will approach ECU later today and also TPS. Had an offer of a used one for sale if part numbers correlate. This will get fixed. We know it.

fingers crossed it doesn’t rain this weekend so we can all play with our motors 🤣👍 Well…… yesterday was a wash out so I cleaned the house and checked the interior of the Caddy van for and water ingress and am happy to say not a drop seen or felt under the dash. Got two different visitors today, one RR’s guy, Ashley coming two hours from Eastbourne at 09.00 to collect the Caddy seats for his son’s Caddy as he likes original parts and then mate Kevin at around 11.00 to just shoot the breeze. But I told him I would be busy trying to remove the Throttle Position Sensor in the Caddy as its still losing throttle response. Got “given” a three year old iPhone 12 Pro Max by Sallys son last night. It died suddenly this week, refusing to take any charge or turn on it seems. If I can get it fixed and working for under £100 I will give him £100 as he did not want to sell it, kids just scrap stuff. If I can get it fixed I will use it for my YouTube channel filming. I love the size of my 4 year old iPhone 8 as it is easy to pocket. Loads of cameras on it. Boggles my mind.

I totally understand.
And to be honest……
The C10 and al the new parts etc needs to go.
Rezin Rockit needs to go.
My Bike needs to go.
Not for any other reason than they served their time and purpose
I hope you manage to process all you need to without any problems as I am aware you have so many things influencing every move you make.
As for the day job, I could not do it and admire your work and skills though most have no clue.
What I can say is that it it good once any project rides off to a new life.
Shout if you need a chat or cuppa.
I can run down too while I have the company car and am unemployed.

Out for the first time in three weeks, driving the Astro. Not got all the parts that I wanted but at least got a new pollen filter for the Caddy Super nice to drive the Astro around Big silly grin all the way. An Irish guy in a Vauxhall Vivaro van came up to me in the carpark where I had pulled in to find out more about the “beautiful noisy van” I like it when strangers show interest. He was shocked when I told him its just standard 4.3l V6 Auto. Stating that was surely too much power for a small van. Went into Euro Carparts for a pollen filter and also a Throttle Position Sensor which they didnot have in stock. Came home and removed the old one Compared. And fitted. Another small job done. Progress every day I guess.

So I started to dismantle the scuttle, wipers etc. I found a royal mess in there. And on and on it went. Eventually read to rinse it all Loads of leaves and dirt dug out. Even more flushed out with all the water used to rinse the area. After all the cleaning I recalled joem83 mentioning an added bit of water protection. So I rummaged through my supplies. Found one of these. Destroying one as I tried to make it. Success Looks like this. Total job results And reassembled. I had also fitted the new 109 relay Started the car up and it all seemed good. I will take it out for a drive in the next few days when it stops raining. Video a bit long winded Editing on the phone really is a PITA. Happy with the clean up. .

Remember the Seat 16” alloys I bought. Centre caps needed a retainer ring. Fixed ✅ Logos or decals were knackered ‼️ Ordered some frpm Ebay not realising its China. Delivery today. Surprise!! Old vs New Needed doing. Picked old logos off. But not good enough to add new aluminium pieces on top of. Sharp pointy knife and carefully worked them all off. Cleaned off old automotive double sided tape. Applied new badges. OCD gang………. Note all aligned. I an really happy with that. Will make a noticeable difference when the wheels and new tyres are fitted Small steps every day is Progress .

So this thread 💩 got moved into the twilight zone because the rules say so. Was tempted to just pretend it had disappeared which may be what they want. But until I get told to leave, I prefer forums as a saved educational resource. So I will carry on here. Hope those who saw it in the cool old sh!t section and are interested will find it here and keep chatting, commenting and sharing. So back to Relay 109 Replaced it. Caddy runs well Throttle worked as well. VIDEO. After this I got on with the Scuttle cleaning. .

Amazon delivered last night. So we have Relay 109 which is often blamed for issues. Interestingly, half the address was not on the label, including house number and postcode and of course it was Craigs surname on the label. Yet it made it here. Pretty Pleased about that. Made in Germany. Overnight, another response to a damp interior question from another guy that I had replied to, got another definitive answer. It confirms in part my and kevins thoughts about drying out the interior to possibly solve or prevent recurrent issues. I will report from my iPhone later today as the company iPad and phone are being collected later today. I will be so naked and vulnerable 😉
