been fannying about a bit more, thanks to BoB for putting me in touch with a few peeps,i managed to get to order a new chain tensioner, should be here any day. also got some "prizes " from ebay. new coil, old one is fine but really grotty looking , new starter, got for £10 so figured itd be rude not too figured id clean up the struts before putting them back attacked with a grider with a flappy sanding disc( i loves these) then slapped a bit of paint on as a bonus... i found a set of new brake hoses, think i bought em about 4 years ago when i was getting bits together the other ta23 (rip) forgot i had em, BONUS!! also, i think i deffinatly must be growing up. i reisted the urge to paint the calipers orange and decided on good old sensible silver  God I'm sooo mature really wanna get this on the road and mot'd in time to go to JAE.

its all going horribly wrong!! sort off. have chuckd all the other bits in and wired stuff up, just to see if the motor will start. had a slight sign of life after a bit of messing about the motor turned over a couple of times then back fired through the carbs on no.s 1 and 2, but there was fuel dripping from the other carb lke it was just pouring through it. no major prob i guess, have seen the kits on ebay to rebuild them. but then it got a bit worse. there was a sllight drip off oil coming from the timing chain tensioner, so i thought id jut tighten it up and itll be ok. it snapped off, . so now gotta find one before i can go any further. off to searh tinterweb for one .. knickers but at least it made somesorta noise i spose

had a bit more of a play , had a go at cleaning up the gear box, looks like it was painted by the same people who apply katie price's make up. painted up the rocker cover, again  this is the colour the cars eventually gonna be, well... thats this weeks colour anyhow forgot to get a pic after the 3 hours or so scraping away at the gearbox, but here it is lined up with the motor almost 2 hours, 3 attempts at lining up the clutch and a few choice swear words later, including some i didnt know before must be a knack to it, cant imagine how much of a pita it would be trying to do it with the engine still in, on ya back under the car some celebratary beers then took place... soon followed with more colourfull language , mainly cos the car is now up on axlestands, which in true sods law style, lined up exactly where the legs for the engine crane needed to be  but eventually its only chuffin in! .. had to stop theer though... beer, new series of Top Gear and some food tempted me away will make a start on all the fiddly bits this week . slowly gettin there tho

Looking very good Carl, fair play mate. Have you decided on final colour scheme yet, or is the black staying? cheers matey, I still cant decide , but.... gonna stay matt black for a bit, I have got a thing for orange at the mo. thought about it a couple of years back keep going back to it! partly cos when the car was yellow and I looked at it with my shades on, cos they were a dark red/ brown tint the car looked orange and I lurved it, also cos of this fella but, if it goes orange, will be tempary as I think I wasnt to do it a really dark mettalic grey... thats the plan this week anyhoo

seem to of slowed right down with the car at the mo. went to have a play the other day and really couldnt get into it, wasted most the afternoon trying to get the track rod ends out of the track rods. totally rusted in place. had a play yesterday and got a bit more done though. got home from work one day last week to find fed ex had delivered my tin of por15, along with the tin they claimed they had already delivered the week before! this has gotta be the messiest paint in the world. does dry rock hard though ooohh and stains your hads for a few days too! have painted the suspension and steering bits and pieces and got em back on yesterday still gotta get the track rods sorted and back on though. also, i painted the block black a while back, but fancied having it in a colour so any leaks etc would show up. so painted that again, its a bit bright though!! too jazzy for sir ?? also, not celica related, but the garage next door to me is one of the few proper garages left round here, so they often get some real interesting motors coming in. do a lot of work for the owners that come to the three castles classic car runs etc. this was parked outside the other day been in for some work thats about it again now till I'm off next, gettin there. engine and box out next and get em in place. then just a few fiddly bits and with a lot of luck be on the road for the end of the summer

about 25 years ago i went to a custom car show at ruddlan, there was a pick up with the paint in the same sorta condition, i just stood and starred at it for 1/2 hour or so , trying to burn it on my brain.. was the days before digi cams and id used all my film. out off al the cars there with the perfect paint jobs was the ratty one that looked the coolest.

Clutch master cylinder from Carina around 1990ish fits these cars. It's alloy so it will never rust and you could even polish it, if that's your bag. I've since sold the car but I think it just needed a stud swapped for a bolt and nut (same thread) and re-use the push rod from your old one as it's longer/shorter/can't remember. A pretty easy job. Your car is looking good. Well done. PS. I hope that brake pipe isn't too close to the steering joint? ahh... that s handy to know, anything that wont rust sounds good the brake pipe looks close to the joint in the pics but its actually a good few inches away, theres a bracket that bolts to the top steering box, holds it in place so it cant move(hopefully).not put the bracket back on yet needs a bit of decrusting. ;D

bit more of a play today progress has slowed right down though. finished stripping the front suspension and steering bits n bobs ordered new track rod ends, figured i may as well while its all off and they're only about £8 each. could only get the outer ones though, anyone know if the inners are readily available anywhere? all stopped with this though as i ordered some por15 a couple of weeks back, still not arrived, appaantly the courior delivered it last thursday , signed for by mr gibson??? no idea where its gone. luckily, ordered it from frosts and they got onto fedex and are sorting a claim out but means i still have to wait for the paint to arrive. will get there in the end though. moved on to cleaning up the brake and clutch cylinders, only took a couple of pics then forgot , cleaned up the bodies and give em a quick spray of metalic grey paint. cleaned up the plastic resouvoirs best i could but still a bit yellow. want some nice new ones... ebay frenzie comin on i think spent most the afternoon cleaning up the steering box, was caked in grease, oil, poo, paint and some sort of jism by the looks of it, forgort to get pics, but cleaned it up and degreased the outside and give it a bit of paint , same as the brake/clutch also got the brake pipes back in thats about as far as i got before i got sucked into the fridge for beers n food
