Cupboard clear out. Assuming the b+w is from dads side of the family, no idea what it is... Then there is my baby, rode it from the far side of Rochdale to Inis more in 2000, it was a J import that I had swapped my 750 zephyr for, I had papers but no registration, it's wrong I know but I stuck my brother's Kawasaki reg plate on the back... Wouldn't start off the ferry in Dublin, had to push it miles to a bike shop, they let me dry off and use their tools. Rode across Ireland to Galway in pouring rain, left it at the goods ferry and got the plane to the island. Two days later she arrived, utterly perfect for somewhere 10 miles long and 2 wide and not much tarmac... Miss it very much.

Not posted a 'positive' for a while. Rebuilt to factory spec starter motor is in, crankcase ccv pipe is in (had to remove the fitting to get old pipe off). Oil filter and cooler gubbins removed, cleaned, new seals and filter fitted, new coolant hose flange fitted. Jump point cable connections brass brushed. Manifold surfaces dressed. (Not pictured, plastic Mani has got new seals) All I have to do now (tomorrow) is fit alternator and belt, manifold and ccv, connect and secure everything I have undone and have a crack at starting her. 😍

Well things got worse, on my way to a local BMW Indy, stopped at Lidl for a snack... And that's where I stayed for 4 1/2hrs until recovery arrived, car is at home and partially stripped to get at the starter motor, all the manifold and ccv has to come out. Alas I do not have an e14 spanner to get at the fasteners so work continues in the morning. I have ordered a new ccv kit, oil filter/cooler gaskets, coolant flange, oil filter and serpentine belt. Alternator and starter will be going to GB electric for testing and rebuild. We tried to jump start the car with packs and leads, recovery man tried 2 packs. Boy this car is trying my patience like none before. I assume this was jumped from the engine bay and not the battery right? You assume correctly 😇

The Blackbird man has gone quiet on me, got messaged with an offer to swap for this bandit 12, it does make me smile at the thought of pulling up somewhere on it, taking my helmet off and people see a wrinkly old man...😁

Fitted the new IBS sensor... After rewiring the connections... Still have the same starting problems 😖 So long as I keep it unplugged she starts. Had a nice new year's day spin round Cheshire, tramlines like a curse word in lane one of the motorways and on damp twisting roads I have no faith in the like new Pace back tyres. New tyres that actually grip are in the lockup. Electrical issues are depressing me... But I really like this car.

I do like that, drove a 1.9 z3 round france, always fancied a Z4 with a straight 6. My current daily 630i is putting me off bm's though, so many electrical faults and a curse word previous owner 😁

Kit has been used, wife got a screw in the middle of the tread. Removed it, cleaned up hole, left it in while I got the string glued and ready, swapped, pulled, cut excess, tah-dah.

Playing devil's advocate.- Just because two of the colours don't match, don't assume that the one colour that does match is right. Contact Hella to confirm. After all, most companies won't accept returns or complaints on electical components. Thanks for that, I am 100% on the red, the connector end going to the loom and splitting into two paths is in a single and double piece. UPDATE, done 😁, still have the same issue so on to new search.

The old 05 BMW intelligent battery sensor has 3 wires coming from it... Red, Grey and a blue+white. The new Hella replacement sensor has 3 wires coming from it... Red, Black and Green. Red I know where that goes (positive terminal)... Black and Green to the different colours I don't know. 😖 Any electrickery wizards

I have my FZ6 up for sale, or possibly swap... I have been asked if I'd take this for mine. I'm 'supposed' to be selling to put money in the bank, God I'm tempted though.

Lovely car, I'm enjoying this thread! I've got a 2005 E90, same colours - Monaco Blue / Dakota Beige, with the same N52 engine, although mine's the smaller 2.5 and is mated to a manual box. I might start a thread about it sometime... They are a nice place to be inside eh? I do like my E91. I got a little bored with it last year. Ironically, having an S124 230TE made me appreciate the 325d again! It just works so well as a daily. I may also start a thread. Oh yes, very nice to be inside, this and my giulietta are probably 2nd & 3rd faves ever.... 1st place was not a car 🤐 . . I have received my new IBS, I still need another piece of loom before fitting. I went with Hella rather then bmw, (suspect bmw don't make them) saves £100. I went mad in work, mid November... Quit, so I have no income, getting a job won't be easy approaching 63 and plenty of body damage. I have to watch the pennies. I invested £500 of savings in converting part of the loft into a small but perfectly formed recording studio... Came in under budget... Not bad for all the timber (floor, walls) soundproofing, carpet tiles, low level, adjustable arm chair, table, led lighting, mike boom & filter, decent new microphone, software and a used iMac. Pretty pleased with myself, just need to learn to use it all. I have someone to teach me and point me in the right direction for work. Almost forgot, I get £700 in March for directing a play. 😎

Received my Halfords voucher for buying insurance... I chose not to use my current provider after their 111% increase. Went over to Edge Lane and bought a voucher discounted jump pack with built in SOS torch. Pleased I did because the car would not start 😂 Once going I went over the M62 to Manchester and back, put some charge in, unplugged ibs again, see if she starts in the morning... 🙄

ChasR, I visited Mersey Battery this morning, my battery is in need of charging but sound. I have checked and the main opinion is an unregistered battery should not cause the problem. I removed the power lead for the ibs the other day for 16 hours, V's dropped but not as much, on reconnecting I got lots of warning lights, pending codes and very erratic rpm's. Multiple code clear and restarts cured it. It's not the alternator... That reads spot on. Multimeter crocodile clips arrive tomorrow, I'll do a parasitic drain test. 😁😁

630i pro's... You can get a 6' Christmas tree in. 630i cons... They break down when you put a 6' Christmas tree in. Something's draining the battery, spoken with the e63/4 forum... It could be, systems not shutting down, micro power module, intelligent battery sensor, parasitic drain. I think I can rule out the alternator, engine running it reads 14.5... MPM seems to show with i-drive issues which I don't have... May also have a slow started motor, that's really slow for the first turn then all is well. Ah the joys of complicated systems and a billion sensors when the weakest string in your car maintenance harp is electrics.

Yikes... First engine warning light yesterday... I have installed bimmerlink on my iPad, alas the obd plug-in does not arrive until later today. I popped my £10 reader on and it worked, vanos solenoids. Google and YouTube showed me what, where ,and what to do... So I did, remove, clean, blast all the internals with brake cleaner then book them up to a battery to activate while more blasting with brake cleaner. Once that was done I lightly oiled them and the O rings and reinstalled. Engine light still on... Had a bit of a thrash, ignition on/off a few times... Light OUT...😁 Car starts quicker and feels crisper.
