There hasnt been much time to do any updates on here for a while as i've been working overtime every day and then working on the capri when i get home! Since my last update i started having a bit of trouble with the carb. Poor running, all the symptoms of an air leak etc, but no sign of one, until i got to the throttle shaft and wobbled that about. So i got some emails fired over to Fast Road Cars and before i knew it i had all the jets i needed to fit my 40's ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Here are some pics from fitting them. Before- ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0243.jpg) Head off - ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0258.jpg) Drilling out the snapped exhaust stud- ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0261.jpg) Used my super home made valve spring compressor- ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0266-1.jpg) Cleaned all the valves so they looked like new- ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0272.jpg) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0274.jpg) Rebuilt it all with fresh gaskets and fitted the webers- ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0285.jpg) Made a new exhaust aswell ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0288.jpg) and the finished piece: ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_0314.jpg) In the post there is everything i need to get Megajolt up and running along with a decent electric fuel pump. It drives atm, but the lack of a decent advance curve means i cant really set it up properly atm. Ill update again when the megajolt has arrived and show what I'm doing. I took pics of all the steps of changing the jets if anyone wants to see what you do ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) James.

Ah, the good times. ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/562821_10152017086330258_680165842_n.jpg) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/Untitled-1.png) Pitty the front end looks like this now: ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/Untitled.png) Surprisingly it was under steer that caused this. Heavy rain and £25 per tyre are not a good mix, but its fine now. Its now the "Tramp Drift" look, until I can afford a new front end! It needs a new bonnet ( did anyway), New valance and the 2 wings are a little creased. Good excuse to fibreglass the whole lot and make it super light! Money is tight now though as I spent it all on a new welder and will be spending the next pay check on bits for making the car actually handle! So I hope everyone like home made Christmas presents, the moneys being put to a more urgent use! Aside from all the excitement surrounding the crash, the cars been spot on! It actually happened after a 600 mile trek to Birmingham and back to see the misses and has taken me to work every day since! While I was in Brum we went to the zoo seeing as the weather was so nice and spotted this in the rare breeds enclosure: ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/Untitled1.png) There was also a capri in the scrappy at penrith if anyone wants to remortgage the house to get the rusty parts off him. I offered him £100 for the whole front end which you can see through (2 wings and a valance) and he said it wasnt enough! Did see some bits of my old Volvo, and wondered if it was still in here: ![](http://inevitablechange.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/photo-15-09-2012-13-41-45.jpg?w=1014) I think all my bad luck is over for now anyway. - New Tyres- Weld up small holes from the trim - New wing mirrors - Fix headlights, only 2 work.- New Paint and a spruce up - Finish bedding the engine - 4 branch- Webber 40's- decent brake setup (coming soon with Coilovers) James.

My Capri doesn't have a bumper on the front, so the indicators are currently slotted into the fibreglass front. I don't want to cut the fibreglass, and want it to look "proper" which wedging them in isn't ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) So what I'm thinking is when i upgrade to H4 headlamps, have the inner 2 fitted with sidelights and the outer 2 fitted with Orange super bright LED indicator bulbs, so they should be visible over the headlights. ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/91EC0560-DAAD-437D-83A7-B0FE438CCC45-9944-00000EF2E5C4C88B.jpg) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/29A84BCB-03D1-4589-9C06-3ABEF20F3E64-9944-00000EF2EC368842.jpg) What I'm wondering is if this has been done before with good results, or if i should just have a go with the fibreglass and fit the existing ones? James.

The service kit was in there Pitzey, put it to good use Waiting on a manifold now, then come pay day ill get the jets ordered. Finished fitting the new springs yesterday and set about fixing the small hole in the exhaust, got that sorted by lunch time, so started a bit of body work, patching up holes etc, but only got 2 done till the bleedin welder packed in! looks like ill be buying a new one come payday . i wanted a gas one anyway ;D the problem is in the PCB somewhere. Everything looks fine aswell. ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/0CEBE931-CC52-4D15-B5A0-3856A6776248-9944-00000EED15A5CEE8.jpg) James.

I splashed out this morning, so tomorrow I'm borrowing my dads car to pickup some 2.8i springs from Bradford. Brand new ones aswell. Looking at the spring today after work it looks like it was cracked for a while, something that is easily missed when checking. I found a crack on some Hellman springs when I was decambering them. The tension in it kept it closed and almost invisible until it was forced open under compression. Anyway, these came today in the post ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/EFA0AFF0-0744-4344-B9E7-8DAA10AF103F-8049-00000AAC35EA0492.jpg?t=1346353020) James.

Cheers for the pics Steve! I got to see the original color today though, When i was reversed into driving through a car park... ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) Usual story, big bang, slam on the rakes, get out to suspect a big old dent.. but there wasn't. I love old cars. Brand spanker of a Nissan Juke had a ruined bumper, dent on the back and the Capri had scuffed pain and a 4" sideways skid mark where she slid me along! So she gets on the phone, calls her dad, he turns up, massive bloke, looks at the cars, hears both storys, i point out its all on CCTV and he says its all ok so we shall both be on our ways now Lucky escape from messy insurance! Spent a wet afternoon fitting an electric fan yesterday. Also changed the coolant, which was minging! It had the consistency of coffee, if you filled the mug to the top with the granuals! Its nice and fresh now anyway..... and bright green ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/73DC21C9-0D91-43B4-85B8-A1B4DA20B918-4275-000006A3326A9BF0.jpg) Fan is great though, ebay special with a thermostatic switch, all for about £25. Not all good news though, Went to put some stuff in the car and found all the carpets were soaked behind the drivers seat :/ From experience i know wet carpets and old cars DO NOT go well together, so i dried them out and set about finding the leak. Turns out the door seal isnt quite seating right so it leaks. Found this out by getting my mum to spray different places on the car with the hose ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) In car pool: ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_26111.jpg) James.

Thats what i was expecting aswell! When i collected her i filled the tank to the brim, drove the 300 miles back and tracked myself on the gps, filled it to the brim again and worked out the MPG from there, only got 44MPG!! Sat at 60 all the way back, came over hartside pass and through alot of country roads aswell, so wasnt just motorways and flat roads. Now the engine is bedded in though, i can rev it a bit harder, so the economy is down, but there if i need it ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) James.

Its quite good on fuel really, 30-40mpg average, but mostly high 30's. Mine needs lead additive in it so ive been using the Castrol one with the octane booster ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) I don't think it makes much difference, but was worth a go for 50p more than just additive! The Carb on it is a twin choke that open in series, so if i do all my driving on the first choke its alot more economical. High revs and foot to the floor maens you can almost see the guage go down...... worth it though ;D James.

Time for an update i suppose! Been busy since my last one anyway. The manifold arrived last friday so when i got home from work i fit it and changed the oil and filters while i was at it. ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2516.jpg) Got it all sorted out and finished early saturday morning, just in time for the classic car meetup at the biker cafe in keswick (much reccomended!) Driving through town on the 5 min journey to the cafe i noticed a little smoke coming from the bonnet and a funny smell but though nothing of it as i did spill a little oil when topping her up ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Got to the cafe, parked just up the road as it was busy, opened the bonnet and was greeted with this sight!! ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2537.jpg) Bloomin thing had burnt all the paint off! ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) Not great for a brand new SPORTEX manifold.... Anyway, the car ran fine and there were some pretty tasty motors there so i got a couple pics: ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2530.jpg) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2531.jpg) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2532.jpg) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2533.jpg) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2534.jpg) ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2535.jpg) Went for a drive round Thirlmere and Derwentwater after a coffee with the cars. Driving through town even my primered capri made some people smlie ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) After that i headed out west to Cruise west cumbria to see some mates and catch up with whats going on over there, Organisers even snapped a pic of my car for the event report HERENot much happened after that, until i went and bought some steel tubing and made a new exhaust! Old on the right new on the left: ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2565.jpg) Must have made quite a difference to the flow because the Jetting all off, but i'm on the hunt for a set of webbers/dellortos/bikecarbs so that can wait for now ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Now its back to saving up for paintwork so i can spend it on tuning parts ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) List so far: - New Tyres- Weld up small holes from the trim - New wing mirrors - Fix headlights, only 2 work.- New Paint and a spruce up - Finish bedding the engine- 4 branch- bike carbs - decent brake setup

Been a few more eventfull days of retro car ownership! Starting from where i finished off last time, i managed to crack off all the exhaust putty from where the downpipe connects to the manifold, making the car sound like curse word and running down on power. I fixed it with more putty, but ill come onto that later. As a more long term fix for the caked up manifold, i ordered up a 4-2-1, new gaskets and studs, along with the tyres i'm yet to receive. With the car running again with the patched up exhaust me and my mate decided to go for a drive up hartside. Set off and pulled in at Penrith 15mins later to regroup to be greeted by smoke drifting out around the bonnet. Silly Gun Gum exhaust wrap had caught fire, so i poked off the smouldering remains with my pliers and then carried on our journey. The drive up was good, some sideways bends and some not, but plenty understeer off the craptastic front tyres. ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2454.jpg) Run back down was the same aswell abit faster though, lots of braking which resulted in this: ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2449.jpg) Two cars with on fire brakes! the smoke doesnt come out too well, but at least it wasnt blown up engines or a different sort of fire, so the extinguisher wasnt needed ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Decided to drive on the 200m to the nearest pub so we could have a drink and let the cars cool down. Decided to have dinner which was also very good and then carried on home/ ![](http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l516/jrweightman/IMG_2451.jpg) Thats all for now anyway. Should get my tyres fitted this week so i can drive with confidence and i can add some more stuff to the list of things to buy: - New Tyres- Weld up small holes from the trim - New wing mirrors - Fix headlights, only 2 work. - New Paint and a spruce up - Finish bedding the engine - 4 branch- bike carbs - decent brake setup

had some fun today at the petrol station. Happily pumping away then i get splashed with petrol as the auto shut-off didn't work properly. Grabbed some of the tissues and gave the side a wipe and all the paint came with ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Silly primer ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Got home, sanded it flat so all the bad paint was off. Quick wet sand and primer and its all ok now... except my primer is sand coloured and I don't want bare metal on show for long! Looks abit 'desert storm' now with the patches of filler ;D .James
