I am 50/50 on replying here, as it's all been covered I think.
I only do RR these days for various reasons, but the beginning of it was that there was a lot of everything here. That and the attitude of the people. So everyone needs a virtual pat on the back, you guys make it pretty much the only place I frequent, unless I needed specific technical answers on something that googling takes me to.
In the past I have been members of the Alfa Romeo OC, various VW clubs and for a short time the MBOC. All of these were in the UK.
I stopped the AROC membership, and going to the shows. I found the reception frosty and the attitude of people when they realized I dailied an Alfasud, then a 15 year old car, and not a "proper" classic Alfa. Flip side was the local chapter that I found to be fun and inviting.
VW, ugh. Wrong year wing mirror on my notchback that I restored myself, tut tut tut. Modified, engine, gearbox put me into one camp. I always felt there were two warring factions in VW clubs. My split screen was a rare-ish spec and unmodified almost polar opposite of the Notchback and people wouldn't talk to me anymore. Weirdos.
I met more thieves, Bodgers, scumbags and "elitists" in the vw clubs than anywhere else. That said, I also met some genuine good friends through VWs that thinking about it, were the sort of core that a club needed, but vw clubs seemed to alienate.
MBOC? Don't modify your car, seemed to be the ethos.
Will I ever join a club again? No.
Would I own a scene car again? Maybe, spares availability is a big plus. As said before, getting what you need in short order makes actually using your car much nicer.
I think this conversation needs to be a distinction between clubs and cars.
I want to re-thank everyone here for making a place people actually want to be. Don't discriminate, include everyone of all abilities, skills, finances, thoughts and beliefs.
Maybe we are a "scene" afterall?

I remember this, at the time a 2 liter v10 hybrid idea seemed amazing. I remember the auto express article and rendering, and may still have it somewhere.
It's an unusual looker, got to take it in context of it's time. The grey bumpers don't help it.....
As usual, I would like to see more of it, and that the hinted at path to production does indeed happen.

I also had been watching this, it's mission creep, binky style.
It's too bad I can't put LS engines in my suitcase each time I come over to England!

I've had a set of the Ryobi 18v One+ cordless tools for 6+ years and despite beating the living $&it out of them, I've replaced only the batteries. The mini circular saw is probably needing bearings soon, but what I've put them through, I'm not surprised.
That said, my father has a Ryobi 18v right angle drill from that range and has nothing but problems with the chuck stripping. I blame him.

Every non-high volume solid epoxy paint here recommends a concrete etch first like Urea Monohydrochloride before paint. Not sure if that would help in this case?
Looking good by the way!

No, Although I'm hoping that when my brother last rode it 3 weeks before I put hands on it that he would noticed, but he says nothing untoward was afoot. He did say it was running very rich and that would need to be addressed. I think the idle circuit not working was not 3 weeks, but as this is my first foray into Amal 930 carbs, I'm having to reason this out as I go.
He rode it something like 500-1000 miles in 6 years on it. All his normal riding/commuting is a modern street triple R or track bikes. Part of the reason he sent it to me was that it was not getting used at all.
It's just a shame that it's almost winter here. High of 1'C here today. Tonight a Low of -9'C. BRRR.

No need to drill it out, with a good light on the bench last night, I could see that it is not blocked from either side. The problem must be elsewhere.....

It may well be on the cards, but soon it will be cold and, more crucially, snowy enough that I won't be able to ride it here. I'm planning on engine out and regasket it over winter.
I'm supposed to have it MOT'd ( or locally known as inspected) within 10 days of registration, fines are $50 per time offence, so I'd like to get that done this week.

I’m sure you’re not the first person that it’s caught out. Hopefully the pilot jet will sort things. 👍 oh, the shame, the shame.

Pulled the LH side carb off and looked at the pilot / idle setting and pathways.
I could see light through the pilot jet flushed it all out with carb cleaner, but after putting it all back together, it's the same.
Internet tells me that the pilot should be a 0.406mm hole. I checked with a piece of wire 0.30mm. it barely fits through and is quite tight when it does. OK, order a #78 drill bit.
Also the terrible missing and falling on it's face off slight throttle.... So when checking throttle openings and the idle stops. I realized that despite what I was told from the "knowledgeable" guy who dropped the bike off, that choke is the complete opposite in reality. So what I thought was choke off was actually fully on. Well, that's embarrassing. I guess it does explain why it was such a pig but would run at slight throttle OK but not anything more. Really, I just have a blocked pilot and an oil leak.

Ugh. Last night I pulled the lh side carb.
Couldn't see any blockage or indeed even much sediment. Put it all back together.
Ran it up this afternoon. Still missing. At idle there is no combustion on that left cylinder. Off idle I can get a nice orange (rich) and can even adjust the mixture to blue (ideal). Add choke I get combustion too.
Adjusting the mixture on that left cylinder gives me no change to running at idle.
More reading on amal 930 concentric carbs needed!
I should also check valve clearances I think.

Always makes sense at the time, but onto bigger, better and all.
Glad to hear you are well, It's been a wee bit of time since we met up at the Gathering - was it 8 years ago?

I've now got plates on it and a quick ride around the block went badly!
I found my old gunston's colourtune and I have one cylinder very rich, the other very lean.... oh dear. No twiddling with the pilot jet on the lean cylinder had any effect on running. I think its blocked, so will whip that off soonish.
