Hppefully someone will be able to help me ive aquired an old triumph step threw bicycle and trying to find out when it was made i will post pics up soon but for now all i have found is a serial number of 8082 DE have searched the net but no answers thanks :-)

If it's got a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub it should have a (2-digit) year stamped on it.

Not alot of info out there on these., But there is another small problem. The serial numbers changed and went back a bit when they became a name under raleigh. If its a raleigh one it would be easy ish to date. Real triumphs arnt so easy. That said, Have you got any model names on the hubs? Sometimes SA stamped their singlespeed hubs too. So you might get lucky. Ive got an old Cyclo benelux equipped triumph racer here. Mid 50's one... I do like em. Used to have a big old gents rod pull brake one too.... Was three speed tho EDIT: just realised you said step thru... So like a raleigh twenty then? If so it Could be anywhere from late 60's to early 80's    ALSO!!where did you find the serial number? On the bottom bracket shell? If so thats probably nothing to do with its year. Might be a batch number or even police code. Ill go check mine in a sec... www.sheldonbrown.com/retroraleighs/dating.htmlCheers for the reply firstly ive made a mistake about the step threw i just assumed it applied to the type its actually a ladies bike :-) sorry for that. i found the serial number at the top of the frame under the seat which is an old sprung leather one think its poss a brooks but prob wrong, did have a look at the hub but could see anything but will give it a clean tomorrow and have a proper look hasnt got rod brakes its obviously been sitting outside for a while but I'm goin to give it a go getting quite a collection at the moment keep getting them offered to me picked up and old raliegh mtb the other day with a strange brake set up at the bottom of the frame!! |

It is possible to get some idea of the age by the components and paint job. Think older bikes will be solid colour. where as more modern bikes might be metalics in pastel colours

Think older bikes will be solid colour. where as more modern bikes might be metalics in pastel colours Its a sort of dark green but its quite dirty at the moment the forks have chrome at the top and there is a lamp bracket attached to the headset the chaingaurd is a sort of hockey stick design with the triumph decal on it would probably help with pictures i will put them up tomorrow cheers for the replies guys |

Did a bit on it today tyres are knackered been looking on ebay for replacements but not to sure what to do with it really bein a ladies bike! Oiled thr chain and sorted that and tge brakes are workin now if it had tyres i could ride it, maybe!

thats really old. as it has the crummy cables with nipples on both ends. would say 1950s.

Thanks alec I had a feeling it was pretty old still unsure what to do with it as I'm really after a racer but will have another go at getting it roadworthy this week

Did a bit more on this today just cleaning it up a bit a strippin tyres off still trying to get an exact year on it but to no avail atm doesnt seem to be alot about them on the net.

if not I can probably get some from somewhere - it's a cool bike, but sadly worth about 20 quid max on a good day - the last few like that I've traded for T-shirts or bacon sandwiches!!

I asked a friend and he just said mid 50s raleigh, badged as triumph and unfortunately also said 'i've scrapped better' hmm

Yeah its a raleigh offshoot. Comfy old bike to ride though. Guessing the tyre size is 26 x 1 3/8 26 x 1 1/4 is racer/club bike size... And its too old for 27inchers on a townbike... As for the cables... What are they like condition wise? If you end up changing them for conventional brakes let me know I need some with the fixed nipples for my 1949 Raleigh clubman resto..  |
