I made a promise to the previous owner that I would do a build thread for the car(s) so here we go.......... first off I will apologise for my atrocious spelling/punctuation/grammer/ english in general, hopefully I am just about understandable! I think the hardest bit is where t start! a fair while ago I found a black 735 up for sale, short mot, short tax and cheap. I had wanted one for a while but had never been able to get one with a manual box so when this came up I had to have it ;D thats it when I first got it with my little old mk1 golf. I bombed around in it for a couple of months until the mot got to the end of its life. Sadly I just couldn't give it the love it needed so up for sale it went! this may be the point where you might recognise it! I sold it to on of the guys on here, rob0r. He 'took good care' of it for a while for me and in the time he had it he did some drifting, did some repairs and most importantly mot'd it! This has to be the only car I have ever regretted selling and when I managed to track rob down he told me that he was not going to sell it but if I wanted to buy another 7 he had I was more than welcome! I think I said 'everything has a price' and I found that to be true, everything has a price but its not always cheap!! I was far to chuffed to have the car back to think about how much I had given for it!! thats how she sat when I got her home, I had to stick a pair of wheels from my 328 on the back as the tyres were not exactly legal on the 7s wheels. she was exactly as I remembered her and I love it! it took all of 12 hours before I was pulled over near my house for having a loud exhaust! I couldn't really complain and the policeman was pretty cool in that he was fine that I had no intentions of changing the exhaust he just explained that people could complain! the first thing that I had to do to it came with the steering, on the center the steering was massivly vague which I found a little unsettling! I found this to be a common issue with them and was a very basic adjustment on the steering box! I 'made the mistake' of letting a close friend drive it. It changed his view on cars a little bit! He had come up to pick it up with me so had seen robs white 7 that was up for sale. I offered to lend him most of the money to buy the 7 and the parts for a manual conversion! we came to the understanding that as I was putting in most of the money that until he paid me back the logbook was in my name and it was 'mine' it took a week before 'i cant cope with 20mpg' !! so I am now the proud owner of 2 735s!! here is the white one for thoes that have not yet seen it........ I couldn't believe it when I opened the bonnet, it looked mint under there! the interior is about 1,000,000 times better condition than the black one as well! the plan was to make it a manual and I am going to keep that plan. I have already sourced a few bits ........... I have almost everything I need including a 3.9 ratio LSD (that might be swapped with the 3.6 thats in the black one) I just need a couple of little bits - a clutch which will come from euros and a pipe to connect the clutch slave and master cylinders together! apart from that it should all be there!! so the plan is........ white one will hopefully become a nice pimp daily, manual box, sound system, generally clean theme. the black one will slowly become more of a weekend toy, I am thinking ditch the air-con, few little touches just to make it into more of a 'fast road car' so, parts have come to make a start on the black one, first off is a steering wheel! I know this is bound to get mixed reactions but I like it! the tec 2 wheel that was in the black one has made its way to the white one as I prefer it to the tec1 wheel next up was a big package from suprisingskoda that I was massivly chuffed with!! big big thanks to suprisingskoda, was top quality on parts, postage, everything really!! I think I will be pestering him again soon for some more bits!! so I had a fiddle, swapped the broken grill for the new one and for the moment it has the chrome center section. I think I will be taking it back to a black center soon as I think it fits in with the shadowline trim - and as with all my cars pressed plates are a MUST!! the one real problem that I have had is a sticky caliper

for some reason it just seemed to seize on the black one so while i 'massage' it about i have had to put one from the white one on to it as the black is my daily (with the 328) and the white is sat ready for me to start on the conversion........................................

Those E32's are a very underrated car, nice to see them being loved i know what you mean! i have also found that they don't feel like a big car at all (might just be me!) the black one sits on bilsteins and the white one has coilovers that have been made from bmw suspension parts. Both cars ride pretty well for what they have but i am always after something better! my thoughts have been along the lines of the 750i/750il. i need something with more dampining force and i am hoping that from the aditional weight of the v12 in the 750 the dampers will be stronger than the current ones. i am also thinking that it could be a good chance to stick a cheeky brake upgrade on there as well? does anyone know of any differences in dampers / caliper / disk sizes or spec?

Glad I could help - didn't realise you had BOTH of Robs old 7s though! Pity you should have said you had a seized caliper, I could have taken one off the two breakers - weighed them in on wednesday morning

Glad I could help - didn't realise you had BOTH of Robs old 7s though! He's cleared me out of 7s! The black one looks so much cleaner in your hands, I spy style 5s on the black one . I actually prefer the tech1 wheels for some reason, I have a spare tech2 wheel if you want one in each... I'm wanting to get that sort of wheel for my E21, it's a rep isn't it?

I think I might consider buying a breaker for the black one as you can get them for £500 odd! E34s are very similar cars and the parts sharing between the two is huge (apart from body panels!), even more choice for a source for parts. I'm breaking several E34s, as I am sure SSkoda is too ;D. Not trying to sell you more stuff, just trying to help! at the moment the black one is running a mis-match of style 5s, e34 8x17 fitament on the back and the e39 8x17 on the front. i'm finding the low profile tyres on the front a little......... low. how big do you think I could go? wheel is indeed a rep but I can't see how a real one would feel any better really! for me it is just right and it is going to sound wierd but it has changed the WHOLE car! it feels like I am sat in a race car but it still has all the luxury in the world!! I would highly recommend one, specially for your car! On the black one, up to 235/45/17, perhaps bigger but I can't see why you'd want too! The 205/40s are on the low side, but I had them put on because on the white one I wanted the tyres to clear the coilovers. I've had style 5s with 235/45/17s on the white ones with spacers to clear the coilovers, but with that tyre size you will be buzzing the arches with that much lowness during tight turns. TBH on the black one you could run run 235/45s all round, my preference would be 225/45 front and 235/45 rear. On the white one you will need spacers to change the front tyre size, again 225/45 would be a good choice. Who knows, 225/45 MAY clear the coilies, I never tried, 235s don't! My Hamann's are 17 x 8.5J 225/45 on front, 17 x 10J 235/45 at the back and they looked and handled the nuts. Yeah, I think I'll be getting one of those wheels, I've seen them on ebay for £35 What the chuff happened there??? It was the right time ;D img.photobucket.com/albums/v55/robjobuk/E21325/DSCF1138.jpgI didn't expect I would of sold the black one at all, especially when on the Hamann's it looked this good... Brennon asked me if I would sell it, I first said no, but I came around to his way of thinking! The E21 was due anytime soon and I needed some funds to finish it, so the deal was done. The white one was for advertised for sale long before I sold the black one, it's simply not economical enough for a daily and I had no plans for it going forwards. Before Brennon bought it I was a week away from breaking it . I'm glad it's gone to a good home.

I am also thinking that it could be a good chance to stick a cheeky brake upgrade on there as well? does anyone know of any differences in dampers / caliper / disk sizes or spec? I really wouldn't bother with 750i or il stuff, I'm pretty sure the brakes are exactly the same as the 735i as they have to fit under the standard 15" wheels. For brakes I would be looking at perhaps E38 7 items, but I don't know if they'd fit! I did get the brakes on the black one to fade at Mallory, but they were having a very hard time! I would change the standard pads I fitted to some uprated ones first before changing calipers/discs. Shock wise I don't think 750 is the way to go, the problem is the 7s were not designed to be that low! You're running out of shock travel and 750 shocks won't help in that department, plus I think they were self levelling or something... If you want to improve the shocks would try and find some physically shorter shocks from another car, but in the same diameter as E32/E34 shocks so they slide down the struts and stay in nice and tight, you would need to get the struts shortened though. One option I was thinking about is modifying some Japanese coilovers from something like a 200sx or skyline to bolt into the BMW front struts. Supersport list an E34 coilover kit I think for around £450, but if you're thinking like that I would talk to Gaz for some proper coilovers!

Liking the sound of your plans! Can you go into a little more detail on what you adjusted to sort the vague steering? My '91 735i is exactly the same, I have checked the bushes and susension components for play but that uncovered nothing of note. Cheers!

Liking the sound of your plans! Can you go into a little more detail on what you adjusted to sort the vague steering? My '91 735i is exactly the same, I have checked the bushes and susension components for play but that uncovered nothing of note. Cheers! i can indeed! it is a common problem as the e32 uses a steering box as apposed to a rack. it is on an eccentric washer as well so there should be a little more play when the steering wheel is dead straight to make it more comfortable on the motorway! first off make sure the car is cold, the bit to adjust is very close to the exhaust manifold so it would be easy to burn yourself! put the wheels on full lock (either direction is fine) remove the air box, should be a 10mil nut and a screwdriver for the jubilee clip on the piping. with that removed you should be able to see the top of the steering box. it has heatshielding over it but protruding from the heatshielding you should see a 17 mill nut. this is where the adjustment comes, in the center of the nut will be the adjuster. on my white one it was a flat head fitament and on my black one it was an allen key. the allen key was by far the easiest as space for a screwdriver is limited!! you want to start with marking the location of the adjuster, i would suggest tipex as it is easy to see but you could use a screwdriver to put a little groove in. next you want to loosen off the 17mil, best bet here is to use an offset spanner and try and lock the adjuster with screwdriver/allen key. with it loose you want to turn the adjuster clockwise to tighten it up. it is suggested to turn a quarter turn at a time before road testing to check but i would say for your first turn go a half. it is pretty much a case of tightening up the 17mil, air box back on and test drive now. you should be able to feel what is 'right' i was warned not to over tighten as it will wear the steering box out quicker but it was obvious when i did the white one where a little too tight was so i wouldn't worry about your ability to feel when its right!! hope this will be of help to you! let us know how you get on!!!

Not trying to sell you more stuff, just trying to help! i think you will be getting a pm from me with a little list in a bit, i forgot you had a couple of e34s kicking about! i need a couple of crappy little parts but i'll give it a couple of hours as i'm sure i will think of more! with regard to the 750 stuff you are right, it was just a thought that popped into my head so i thought it might be worth exploring! in honesty i am pretty chuffed with how they ride, at the moment my only issue is the low profile tyres on the front of the black one, it scrapes the lower plastic splitter bit everywhere!! my dream would be to put an alpina item on it one day but i don't want to spend out for it to be smashed within seconds!!! also i am on the lookout for a 17x8 style 5 in E39 fitament if anyone has one!!!!

got very little done today, parked the white one up for the conversion - and made a start - not too much to show as not much has been done, jacking up 2 tonne of car is a PAIN with a little trolly jack and i now have the front sat on little ramps but where its on coilovers space underneath is limited which has been a pain. tight bolts underneath have sucked with my little weedy arms and getting stuck chatting to someone coming to buy an engine off me took most of my working day! hopefully progress will get quicker sooner!!

(I've run out of E34s as well lol except my tds donor) As Rob says, 750 stuff won't help you out any. You should have vented discs on the 735 anyway. A good service would do no harm though. Standard shocks wont help either. They're the same as E34 suspension and you can get coilover kits, but they're expensive, and I reckon Rob is right in that Gaz would probably make you a set cheaper than buying the H&R or Bilstein kits.
