er...
I was looking for stuff to add to another thread when an interesting picture of a Metro appeared.
So I did what any RR member would do and decided I had to know more.
To briefly summarise the details on this page (http://www.aronline.co.uk/index.htm?lc8crayf.htm), Crayford were planning to build a convertible version of the brand new Metro back in the 80s, with the aim to make a no-frills cheap soft top to fill a gap in the market. Cost was the main prohibiting factor in it making production, it would seem.
I love that their initial press release shot shows a very smart, but somewhat airbrushed shot.
What I liked about finding out about this car was that it showed up some others of interest, as follows.
Jensen 1100 Convertible
Allegro... awesome.
Triumph TR7 Tracer, not so hot.
Beautifully proportioned Austin 3 Litre estate.
All of the above are from the pages here: www.aronline.co.uk/index.htm?crayindexf.htm
Other things that popped up of interest to me, though not necessarily connected, were:
Chop top Mini.
1991 Geo Metro
Geo Metro again
Er... (it's another Geo Metro)
This is more like it. 1990 lowrider Geo fitted with a full hydraulic system and sporting candyflake paint. Excellent.
