1937 lancheste rod most fun project yet! Plan is to channel the body over the chassis, change it from a 4 door to 2 (lengthening the front doors to keep the proportions) get the engine working, registered and on the road.... simple. its been sat at the farm for a while but basically it was found in this state a few years ago- first problem was getting it strong enough to move around, interior was made completely out of wood, including all the strengthening around the sunroof and doors, floors etc small bit of welding to the roof using donor rover metal welding in a few supports so we could remove the body, this bit was very important, the body will come on and off a few times over the next few months while we play with the height and later on when we move the door pillars back. not bad into the shed to weld the sills back on a few inches higher test fit plan is to lower the body to the ground and then raise the whole thing back up just with the new wheels and tyres. next thing to do- widden the rear axle so wheels sit out from the body new (higher) sills and floor sections have gone in both sides and started on the rear wheel arches. afternoon yesterday- the bad side the good side yesterday evening- both sides you can really see how small its gonna be inside now  attacked some of the rust today good old rover came in handy again rust out rover in  the curve was near perfect from the rover roof section (and we're keeping it british) mmmm gonna try and get all the rusty bits around the sunroof finished tomorrow.

WOW this is on the favourites list in just one post! Fantastic project ;D So sticking to stock engine for period's sake, to keep it simple, or just until a nice flathead V8 comes up cheap

Thanks, sticking with the original Daimler straight 6 for now, but have been looking at the daimler 2.5 hemi v8, or a 3.8 xk engine, both look stunning polished and exposed. but those cable brakes will have to go if either of those two go in :-)

Is it gonna get finished properly or be leave ratty (hopefully the former). As I was reading I was constantly thinking "needs a Daimler Hemi with a 3/71 blower on it"

The finished article is going to be halfway between the two, well finished but to a 40s style hot rod look, as in function before form but making the function as pretty as it can be if that makes sense? trying to use as few modern tools as possible with the exception of the mig welder and am recycling as much as poss, the overall look is satin chocolate brown inside and out, a well worn in red leather interior i got from a 50s morris, and red 16'' bentley wheels with 750mm crossplys on the rear with the standard lanchester ''artillery'' 16s up front with 500mm crossplys. So far the bentley wheels are the only thing i have bought :-) in true hot rod style.

Nice project man, cool idea. I think that inline 6 would be super sweet on triple SU's, straight 6's are the V8's! The brown paint/red interior is inspired too - should look great when done

Is that a Razor Edge Karmann Ghia in the background (photo 9)? Also book marked this, looks like it'll be an interesting read! ;D

Thanks for all the response guys Yep thats a t34 razor, it was in quite poor condition, its sold now somebody has taken it on as a brave resto. The trials bike is my Ty 125 I have been quietly restoring over the winter, been meaning to take pics and sell it to fund some hot rod parts like some tasty triple su's if anybody has some kicking about? Next on the lanchester is the floor and firewall this friday then its 2 door time when I am happy its strong enoughto align everything properly :-)

Great skills. I love British derived (and built) hot rods.

what size SU's are you after? Got a box full of SU's back at home (mostly smaller ones though)

1 1/2'' i think would be about right as a twin carb setup and triples would prob drop to 1 1/4'' as the engine is only 1800cc ish
