Tell me about:- manual gearboxes for mopar v8

I have one of their conversion bellhousings up the garage, but I cant remember their name, Ill have a looksie later,
Jeep are Mopar, Jeeps use a 4wd version of the venerable T5 BW box, That may be a thread worth following, BUT, if you go that route, the bolt flanges for the box to bellhousing can be different, with different bolt patterns, the Mustang/later camaro world class box would probably be the right option

Possibly an option, but the car is american, and it will be relatively heavy, rovers are not torque monsters, and EXPENSIVE to tune, the 4.6 is a torquey engine, but never came as a 2wd option so then you have to source a LT77 flywheel etc, which I think would be marginal on strength, plus the 4.0 and 4.6 do have a habit of shifting liners, which virtually scraps the block, unless you have them machined to take top hat liners, which is an expensive option again,
Why not look for a Jeep V8, that may be cheaper in the long run, and maintain the residual value in the car

your easiest option is to find a a833 4 speed gearbox and all the parts....
in fact I know for one with all the bits to fit an a body but isnt yours an e body or something??

on my barracuda I'm going to use a supra w58 gearbox as they are cheap and strong..
ive got a steel ansen bellhousing so should be pretty easy to adapt to fit..
but there are bellhousings to fit these boxes to the smallblock I beleive its castlemaine rod shop or dellow or someone in australia who do them.. and they do ones to fit the stronger r154 surpra turbo gearbox too..

as for off the shelf bits..
go to a usa scrappy and get a dodge durango v6 bellhousing (not 100 percent its the durango but pretty sure)
it will bolt a r154 supra box to the smallblock....
should cost you about 30 to 80 dollars last I asked..

the only prob with this is the price of the r154 box now being around 350 upwards.. damn ive seen the suckers go for around 1200 recently!!!!!
buy a scrapper mk3 surpra turbo rip out the box and sell other bits then frag whats left, to get the best price..

and keep the 318 they are underated..
I'm going turbo on mine for cheap bang for buck..

you need to get that C/R up on a 318 first to get power they are low as std.. with a set of decent heads (360 heads are old hat tuning ports too big for anything but high rpm power and will lower C/R)
get it balenced do the normal cam/intake/carb/headers/
and 350 to 400 is possible.. although 300 or just over is more reasonable..

An Aspen is mid-sized. Not a real heavy Moper, in fact might be lighter, for example, than a Sierra.... for a comparo...

Its an F body which replaced the A body in '76 IIRC.

weight is about 1400kg so not too shabby really, apparently it was one of the "new" generation of compact cars. so no seperate chassis or big heavy components.

need a trip to the states i think and mooch round a junkyard. chances of getting a complete gearbox, pedal box and prop through the green channel at brum airport??

They are getting harder to find, you would need a turbo box, but how long it would last is debatable, big block on gas has to be 600ft lbs of torque, which is never kind to manual gearboxes

Coming from the Supra world - i can definitely tell you that the R154's are getting very, VERY thin on the ground - either people going from Auto to manual on a turbo, or doing whole turbo manual conversions on their Supra/Soarer etc, the supplies have run dry pretty much.

2/3rds of all Supra Turbo's in the UK (only imported from '89 to '92) were Automatic, rather than manual. Don't even think of using the non-turbo W58 either - the input shaft isn't that large, and cant handle more than 250lb/ft of torque, even tuned 7M-GTE's have been known to turn those W58's into oversized grenades!

R154 has a torque capacity of 550 to 600lb/ft, and is one of the last 'overengineeered' gearboxes that Toyota themselves ever made (the V160 in the Mk4 was made by Getrag).

what about a Honda S2000 six speed gearbox? they seem to cope with 400+ bhp turbo or supercharged 2000 engines.

and they are a lovely gearbox with overdrive 6th and i think 5th.
