What's the plural of Barkus anyway? Barki?
Anyway, does anyone here own / run / have owned one?
Just curious about them... How the drive, handle, how they are constructed, how available parts are..? Particularly pickup trucks....

Yup-I have a camper. its a 3cylinder 2 stroke wartie engine -so makes a brilliant sound, Drives Ok -needs revving hard to make good progress when its laden. brakes are good -viz reasonable. Steel is very thick -rust is uncommon.Built like a typical East European tank really.
parts are pretty easy- Ebay.de is the place to hunt.
When mine got rear ended- and the tailgate folded in two- a kind German RR member brought me over a replacement £50 all in. £3 worth of new lights/lenses- ready to go.
PM me if you need specifics

I know nothing about them apart from they are awesome, oh and after traveling in B+D's Wartburg a few times the sound of that screaming 3cyl 2 stroke is both fantastic and addictive!

I have had two of them. The fire truck one on here i had for sale was a tax free one the water filler on the out side of the front panel. The one i had was just about rust free but for love or money i couldnt get it running the new owner up yorkshire swapped the fuel pump drives like a dream.Parts very easy to buy from a small bolt to a new engine. Some have sliding side doors.early ones have a bit different dash board to the later ones. They are cool

Thanks for posting you two. Please post up some pictures if you can? I have been surfin t'internet and well just bob in Sam Glover B1000 on googley and your half way there? Club in germany Etc etc.
But please tell me - what are they like ti drive? Quiet noisy? Do you need to add oil to the petrol at fill up for example? Are they well made generally or all rusted away now? Realistically what MPG should i expect? Remember i run a Bay so probably not far off one of those? I read although the engine is tiny they have a bit of poke? I would turn one into a camper ideally, just making up interior for my Bay at the mo. Not hard to do really?

Thanks for the info. Cant you apply for a v5 if a vehicle has not got one? You can apply if its an abandon vehicle for example? I did it for a spit van years ago but then the owner appeared just as i was about to apply for it! Typical! Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.

Yes mix the oil on early ones i do know.Yes well built but buy the best you can don't rush. The first one i had was a 1980s and all the body joints were rusted. The second earlyer one was mint.I just got fed up with it because i couldnt get it running but like i said the new owner swapped the pump and it started.Gear stick is set back more than on a vw,don't forget two stroke and the engine is sat at the side of you.The noise is part of having a van.mpg not sure as i just use to fill up.But no worse than a vw.Look at the good bits lots cheaper than a vw.Looks more different cheap on parts.Loads of room.
