Actually in Australian old car terms I would say that it's overpriced and won't sell at that price. It's only an old Chevy commercial and not even in usable condition. I think he'd have to halve the price to really get any bids on it.

For sure, it's a cool van. I would definitely want to own it. The only thing wrong is the price. In the immortal words of Darryl Kerrigan, "Tell him he's dreaming!" ;D

Sorry. Also, if it makes any difference the seller of that Datsun 200B wagon is a complete dreamer. It would be lucky to get to $2000, and even then only if two people really loved it and got into a bidding war.

Well, new cars are really quite a lot more expensive than the UK and Europe. As are all used cars under 20 years old. It costs like $3000 for a 15 year old used car in average condition. It's just that many of the cars which we 'retro' enthusiasts are interested in are very cheap here. Due to the fact that 'normal' used cars are so old, the 'cheap banger' age of car doesn't start until you get to about 20 years, and cars don't get into proper 'classic' status until they're over 40, as a broad generalisation. I mean, the first generation of Commodores is from 1978 and almost nobody would say that they are classic, they're just old bombs. So a lot of cars which are considered old enough to be valuable in other countries aren't here.
This phenomenon is greatly helped by our generally rust-free climate. It's pretty rare to see any kind of rust on a car less than 20 years old unless it's a 4wd that's been driven on the beach.

Mate, plumbers are like CEOs over here. It's illegal to do any DIY work on any mains plumbing yourself and the plumbers make a killing. They usually don't drive old cars though, because they can afford to hoon around in 6 litre V8 utes. I kid you not! The call-out fee for most plumbers is roughly $200 so by the time they have fixed a small leak it's like $250 for half an hour's work.

I was tempted only last week by a Commer van on Australian e-bay until I was quoted £3,000 to ship it here....

That's only £1100 delivered to Melbourne. There is a drive on / drive off boat service from Melbourne to Southampton whuich I used to bring a few kombis over - very tempting!

Currently driving a 1972 BMW 1602 as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Man, I love Australia! I remember being offered a very tidy oval window beetle for 600 bucks when I was there...I was far too skint back then though.... ( that was quite a while ago though)
