I'm sat here searching ebay and musing over this, so I thought id throw my thoughts out to the board this evening!
basically the only thing ive got on the road at the minute is an escort van I'm intoxicated off with after someone drove into it.
I want to buy a car, but I don't know what.
basically, as an absolute max ive got 1500 quid to spend, but ideally id only spend 800-1k. whatever I buy doesnt have to be that sensible, or economical, as ive got the vans 50mpg travellerness to fall back on if I run out of fuel money before I get paid again
I'm basically buying a weekend/'best' car, so ideally id like either a respectable classic, or something with a bit of flash. maybe something small, rwd and lairy too....
I generally seem to gravitate towards large RWD stuff, luxo barges, but am willing to step outside that comfort zone for something interesting.
I have vague ideas about a chevette as I had a hankering for one last year after seeing the ex-racer86 one, but I can only see one on ebay, and its a hatch- id want a saloon. I did see quite a nice viva for sale on here too but I know nothing about classic vauxhalls really.
ive also seen a couple of mk4/5 cortinas I like recently, but I don't know much about them. id also quite like a nice sierra saph, but would be picky about colour and condition on something that new.
id quite like a merc w123 or w115 again as I have a big merc history, but they all seem to be ropey or horrendously overpriced. I wouldnt really want any other newer merc.
ive already got a project e28, I'm going to see a e32 on monday as a possibility, and I'm not really interested in any other BMW.
anything american and rwd is obviously good. american and fwd, no.
theres a couple of rollers around within my budget, which I want above all else, and I'm currently talking to someone about the purchase of a silver shadow, but it doesnt run and thats a BIG risk to take on such a money pit car......
I even thought about going back to my roots with a beetle, but it would be a real sh1tter for that money.
I know what I don't want- anything VAG(aircooled excluded), anything french (except a DS but were a bit out of budget there), or anything FWD unless its really interesting.
so guys, what can you find me? the older the better too, extra points for tax exemptness.!
