BiAS and I were discussing potential project ideas the other night (as any 'normal' RR person does over the phone) and in the midst of the ideas, a Lancia Y10 was randomly mentioned. Wow, I thought....you really don't see those any more. In fact, you never really saw them 'back then' either! One of Lancia's cool little oddities that never really translated over here in the UK.
Skip forward a few days and while looking for something totally unrelated today, I stumbled across an image of what I could only assume to be some kind of quirky replacement for the Y10: the Lancia Y.
It's a proper fugly little thing, but it really stopped me in my tracks. I had never seen or heard of one before and this alone annoyed me. I love quirky, unloved, kinda ugly cars and this little Lancia had somehow been produced and sold in ?? numbers completely under the MM radar.
The other reason it stopped me in my tracks was because I could see a whole new avenue of cool right there in ^ that ^ picture.
I love the rub strip that makes one continuous line across the front and right down the sides, cutting across the top of the wheelarches as it goes. That shouldn't work, but it does! The line that follows the grille, right through the bonnet and all along the bottom of the windows too...
Every time I looked at the pic I could see some great detailing in a car that, as it stood, wasn't that appealing (tall stance, skinny wheels etc...
I then started looking for more images...."what does the back look like?"....."Any modified ones??"
Google very quickly satisfied my needs and also confirmed that I was right, these cars could look cool. Imagine this with some more lows:
Nice & low, but really not keen on the way the look of the car has been lost through all that colour coding, the bodykit and dare I say, the colour itself? Simple is obviously the way forward with these...
Now we're talking, cool car, cool colour, nice & simple...just needs to be much lower.
He was obviously listening - I think it looks spot on at this height!
Loving this too
Ignoring the silly exhaust, I reckon the rear end on these is just as good, if not better, than the front. Boy am I liking the Lancia Y
My Google-fu isn't so strong today, so my findings weren't great, but I have satisfied myself that not only does the Lancia Y come packed full of potential, it also seems that the boys at the factory did such a good job of the design & detailing that some lows and some rims is pretty much all you need to make one of these chock full of 100% win.
I'm liking this:
Now to try and convince Amanda that she needs one of these in her life instead of the Punto. LOL.
