Early Harrison L5 Gap Bed lathe, will swing approx 16" in gap and I think 9" over saddle (will check if needed) it's around 2' between centres, comes with 3 and 4 jaw chucks. currently fitted with 3ph motor but could easily be changed to a single phase. It's not in it's first flush of youth but i've used it for a few years making bushes, spacers etc and even some reasonably precision bits with care. More history on these can be found at www.lathes.co.uk/harrison/page2.htmlI'm Near Hinckley Leic's and can load onto your transport, guess it's about 350Kg. Price £85, viewing welcomed and can be seen under power. Cheers Brian

Does this come with any spindles/centres for the tail stock? Any cutting bits? If so then I think you may well have a buyer Been wanting to get a lathe down at the unit for some time. This looks like the right kind of thing. PM on its way....

You lucky bu gger Bruce, that's the cheapest lathe worth having i've seen in ages..
Better of buying new tip tools, than mucking about with old tool steel ones, gets you going again in seconds if (when) you smash one rather than having to strip down the whole job regrind the tool and srart all over again... so much easier in the long run, get a left and right handed turning tool a parting off tool and a boring bar, and a Dti & verniers should enable you to do most simple jobs...
Will cost more than the lathe probably but that's because they lathe is crazy cheap not that the tools are expensive (if you see what i mean)

Provisionally on it's way to Area 52, if it falls through (which i don't think it will) then i'll let those who expressed an interest know.
I priced it with what i am happy to pass it on for, call it crazy cheap - but fair for it's condition, it's taking up floor space and all i wanted was a bit more than scrap value. oh, and i need to make way for a Bridgeport mill :-)

Once we get the new lathe set-up at the unit and make sure it's all working properly, Ross & I could pop over to Alan's for some lessons/refresher (last time I used a proper lathe was 1988!!) then we can do lessons for people down at the unit....as well as making cool stuff!
Sound like a plan? Saves Alan's barn workshop being over run with A52 regulars...although his Mum makes a cracking cuppa and a demon bacon sarnie ;D ;D
