My sister has had a randomly occuring problem with her Astra mk3,
Twice or three times now she has come out to it in the morning to find the ignition lights on and the radio on, the doors are locked (keys not in the ign)
With the current low temps it has killed one battery and is using the one from my corsa for now.
Any ideas?

Nope , But my alarm went off last night and i didnt even set it. And then after i went back in , It went off again, and turned itself off after 2 or 3 seconds. I went out and the light wasnt even blinking that time.. Oh and the doors keep unlocking just as i get to the house, So i have to walk back and lock it again Just the cold tho realy....

yes, it has happened before too, the weirdest thing is the ignition lights being on with no key in, perhaps the barrel is faulty??

^^^WHS ! We had the same problem with Renaults in 2008/2009 ... if it is too cold outside, the Radio is turning itself on ...

i would try either the ignition switch or the hazard switch, both can cause the ignition to stay on

a single filament bulb in the stop/tail lamp holder will put the ignition lights on . if you havent changed any bulbs pull the fuse for the indicators and they should go out .

LOL! yeah i have had the problem with a mk3 astra aswell though! but a single filament bulb could cause it too. theres a few weird electical gremlins on 90's vauxhalls, plenty of head scratching with them!

Yea depends what stereo it has aswell, my old mk3 astra had jvc cd player fitted and person before me had played with wires so it kept radio setting and memory and that caused it to stay on and turn igition lights on. Had to cut and resolder the stereo wires.

Try unplugging the ign switch, i used to have a granada that would turn itself over when a bus went past (got me out the bath a few times cos i thought it was being knicked) ;D Changed the ign switch and that fixed, drove me crazy cos for months before cos every morning i would go out and the drivers seat would be all the way forward and i caught me nuts on the steering wheel a few times (leccy seats on an ign live with an iffy control stick), strangely it never moved when i turned the ign on

cheers fellas, I'll maybe swap the stereo for an aftermarket one and see if that cures it.
