;D i know its all been said before but how much would you cut off to drop the scud around 2 to 3 inches ie how many coils or is it just guess work  andy as I'm goan attack it at the weekend ;D I'm i right in saying that you don't cut 1" off the coil to drop it 1" |

i remember the street machine skud was dropped around 120mm so lopping off a couple of coils should be ok, just make sure you cut the same amount of each one  2 off the front and one off the back would be the winner for me ;D |

And please, for the the love of god, tail the ends of the springs properly, so it's a flat surface resting point instead of a jagged tip.

;I'm i right in saying that you don't cut 1" off the coil to drop it 1" yes,i know on imps that if you chop one inch off it drops it 1.3 inches or summat similar.only found out cos mr bro-in-law chopped 3 or 4 inches off his imp springs and wondered why he couldnt get it off the jack! |

Whilst we are on the subject... The Corsa has those pigtail springs on the back, all spiral shaped. Can I cut those or will I have all kinds of unexpected things to deal with?

I think how much you cut off depends on your spring rate, the distance between coils, that kinda thing. Just keep in mind that if you reduce the spring 2in in it's unloaded state, it's gonna be a lot more than that when compressed. Those Corsa springs sound like progressive rate springs - I think (as tonypepsiMAX says) they shouldn't be cut |

I think I can be a bit more specific after a bit of thinking today.
We're not talking about the ultimate handling here - but it'll look good and increase the fun factor! I'm not putting my head 100% on the line, but I have some memory of slapping my old back springs in the front and them being a good length for a nice drop - as well as being stiffer. Me being a cheapskate I then cut the fronts and used them in the back - not the best in theory but not too bad in practise and that way you're only cutting one pair of springs too. A bit more cash and an extra pair of rear springs for cutting would be a good investment.
I think on later Skodas losing the anti-roll bar and maybe the spare wheel can help too - but I might have made that up!
Cutting in-situ isn't recommended, and in the case of a Skoda not necessary as the spring can be removed quite easily. At the back it's worth making some sort of check-strap to stop the springs dropping out when the car is jacked up - I've seen a length of cambelt used effectively - bolted to the to and bottom mounts.
