These are absolutely nothing like the Holden Monaro. The Monaro was styled and manufactured in-house in Australia, no Brazilian rip-offs for us thankyou. For starters Holden started making the Monaro in 1968, one year before the first Opala. As much as the Opala is okay, the Monaro is much better proportioned in my opinion. I didn't say that the Opala was sold in Australia as the Monaro..... I was saying that GM did the same thing with the Opel Rekord C in Australia as the Monaro and in South Africa as the Chevy SS. The car was designed by Opel in Germany and released in Europe as the Opel Rekord C in 1967. GM saw its international sales potential and had it built by its subsidiaries all over the world. Obviously the engines and transmissions were sourced locally but the bodywork, excluding the localised variation in lights and trim, was styled in Germany. As much as I like you Aussies you can't claim title to all the best metal.  |

Yeah, but the Rekord/Carlton/Senator/Monza/Monaro/Commodore/Omega/Maloo and even to a certain degree Calibra to name but a few, (because I know there're are more but the monikers don't spring to mind), are variations on the same platform are they not? |

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned this one yet, the Niki 650. A humble but generally acceptable car, the Fiat 126, produced decades beyond it's expiry date in Communist Poland.  They were actually importing them to Australia from about 1988ish-1992ish, at which time they were completely laughable compared to anything else on the market. Ancient Fiat design combined with Communist build quality to produce one of the worst cars to ever be sold in the Australian market. A friend of mine collects and restores them for some reason which I don't understand. My friend had one of these here in Plymouth, still on polish plates and was a 2000 spec model ;D Here...........  |

Sunbeammadd, the Roadpacer was only available during the time when it was made in the Holden factory, and the bodies were exported whole from Holden to Japan, so it wasn't really made under licence or after it's time. Very interesting car though. A fully loaded Premier with a 13B Mazda rotary as the flagship of the Mazda range...
