As the title suggests really. What would be involved in replacing the bolt face/wheel centre of a steel wheel with that of another sttel of a different PCD? So you could go from 5x112 to 4x108 for example. Is it possible or would it be an alignment nightmare? Lets have your thoughts! Chris

I'll be attempting this shortly chris, so I'll be able to report how badly it's likely to go!
I'll be putting 16" ford pop / prefect centres into 6.5j mondeo 16" outer rims, to get moar dish on the back of the pop - suppose you could just get them banded really, but for this build, there's not enough $$$!
- just need to get the centre a snug fit in the rims (I'm using a few penny washers) and make sure someone decent doing the welding as far as I can see - I WON'T be doing the welding on my rims! pics to follow when we make the attempt

I did my centre chopping the same as that, though I didn't mess about drilling the rivets, just attacked the rim with the angle grinder! - and weirdly, I bought some anglia halfshafts from mart who's pop that was!

Thanks for the link.
To be more specific though, I was thinking about different rim sizes. So it would just be the mounting face that is changed. The rest of the steel inner would remain in place.
I suspect this is impossible though.

its possibly do-able, depending on what pattern youre going from and to, and what wheels youre doing it on. ive seen it done on wellers quite a few times as they're flat centred and easy to do. just turn up a disc with the new pcd on, with a spigot to centre it on the other wheel, or the same size centrebore so it can be located, then weld it on and drill straight through all the holes.
if youre talking standard steels with pressed centres though, it would be far easier to get a set of thin (10mm or so) adapters made.

I looked into this a year or so ago with Grunty when I was thinking of getting a set of Citroen AX 13" steel (3 stud) wheel centres grafted into a set of 14" wheels because you couldn't get a 14" 3 stud steel. The principal was pretty simple and the only thing that stopped it happening was the difference in the shape of the pressing around the studs. No 14" steel wheel had a centre pressing that matched that of the 13" one. There would always have been some kind of a step It's the difference in the conical/domed section that affects how possible it is to get them to match. I hope this makes some kind of sense? With this in mind I would go with Dez's suggestion of some adaptors if you can get them slim enough?
