On deciding my mini will become my project car in the very close future, I will be needing a daily driver. I love big black saloons, what me and a few mates have named "the mafia look" Generally big black mercs and bimmers. But being 20 I cant really afford £100+ a month to insure either. what else would you consider to fit in with this look but without the cost of the fancy bagde? basically, big, black, with loads of road presence. have a picture or 2

I got this on the road as of last Friday BMW 735i manual, the insurance cost £325 and I'm 25. The amount of "drug dealer"/gangster/mafia/yakuza (it's a J import!) comments I've had already are considerable!

Rover 800 or even a 600 - 4*114.3mm PCD so loads of options for wheels...
The 600's are based on an Accord so uber reliable.

Jaguar XJ40's are cheap to buy, the 3.2 will do 40mpg on a run if you take it easy, I dunno about insurance, mine was 150 quid fully comp but i'm old, I suspect they may be a lower group than bimmers and the post 93 ones are much more reliable than Jags reputation would have you believe, not much headroom in them but they go and handle well.

This always get's me loads of shifty looks, pimp/drug dealer/mafia comparisons I only pay 160 a year insurance with all mods declared, but i'm getting on a bit. Insurance shouldn't be tooo bad tho, not exactly a speed machine. Mines a 2.0ltr, but they come in 1.8 flavour also

Being so young insurance is the problem you're going to come up against over and over again, as most classic policies are limited to 25 and over. But to add interest to the thread: My old 740i 2.5 tons of brown metal, beige hide and V8 lump. Cost me £1100 to buy, £270 to insure on a 3000 mile a year classic policy without no claims bonus (I'm 28) My current 528i, a bit lighter, bit less thirsty, a bit older and a bit meaner! £250 a year to insure on the same policy.

I'm 23 and my carlton estate is nearly £500 ish to insure with all the extras....
Vauxhalls although arseholes if you get a bad one, are pretty damn well equipped . Leather is common, (heated is nice) , electric everything, fairly nice engines , and the big stuff is RWD...
Omega elite?, carlton , senny,

Keeping them on stock alloys with as many tinted lights as possible, blacked windows and a red interior (if you can find one) they look absolutely spot on and still have a fair amount of road presence. I'm not sure what they're like on insurance though, if I'm honest.
