yeah that nixdorf golf sounded fantastic, excatly what two turbo golfs glued together should sound like!
And the gas turbine thingy was super cool aswell, i wonder what would have to be done to allow a gas turbine in a road car?

the record is a tough one to break, would help if nowadays people got the same surface conditions to run on, as its not really a level playing field. but thats life. just shows what a difference a better surface can make, despite 11years of progress.

I can see that some of the older footage shows the surface as dirt on tarmac & just hard dirt.
whats it like now ?

its the same now, when the record was set the surface was sprayed with flouride or something(toothpaste? lol) to keep dust down, which hence made the surface much grippier, but then some wishy washy tree hugging types complained about spraying surface with chemicals as it was harmful to the environment, and since that one year they never treated the surface, and so the surface is much looser , less traction....hence the record still standing for so long
