just got hold of a mk3 golf gti as part of a deal. It was covered in lots of Dub-inspired vinyl graphics which werent to my taste so ive just spent 3 and a half hours removing them but i don't know whats the best way to remove the sticky glue residue on the paintwork?
Any ideas chaps?

A hint for the next time you do it, heat the vinyl with a hairdryer until it becomes just soft enough to pick the edge up, then "chase" the vinyl with the hairdryer, heating it as you pull it up.
It'll come up leaving nothing but a very small outline of sticky stuff which wipes off with a bit of petrol.
Used to have to do that on airplanes, so much fun- tear one bit of paint and the entire thing needs a respray

I'm sure theres a disc you can buy (that mounts in a drill?) that removes stuff like this, but doent ruin the paint work. Seen one used a while ago and it worked fine.

Carb cleaner removes the sticky stuff, I've used it before, it didn't remove the paint.

As above, petrol/wd40/naptha (zippo lighter fuel) will do it. Keep the toffee wheel for removing more aggressive stuff (foam trim tape and numberplate pads) as they can be a bit harsh and mark the paint if it's a bit soft

Acetone will damage the paint! Use carb cleaner or electric contact spray thingy. Cheapest option is still meths I think...

Not the sticky stuff- the labels! Aircraft paint goes on so thin that if you have something with strong adhesive on and the surface underneath wasn't prepped quite right the paint pulls off in large flakes... Can't exactly take a 32 Million quid airplane to your mates for a quick blow-over either

I need to remove some glue residue from the rear windscreen. Where an old demister has been fitted at one point. Somebodys also stuck suction cups to it with araldite. Anyone any idea how to get that off?
