Said I wouldn't be keeping it long, didn't I? LOL
1995N Vauxhall Cavalier 1800 'Classic', which was one of the run-out models just before they introduced the Vectra. Basically LS-spec with different trim and no rev-counter.
Resplendent in Nautilus Blue, it's has 3 previous owners and is showing just 71k (actually 70,900 and something but I'm still using it) from new with all old MOT's and a sheaf of bills to back it up. Cambelt and water pump were replaced just 6000m ago, so no worries in that department. New battery just before I bought it, too. Slightly leaky cam cover gasket, but that's pretty normal on these.
Very straight bodywork, there are two bits of rust on the body....a scab on the offside rear wheelarch and one at the bottom of the nearside front wing. The usual Cav rot-spot (front of rear arches into rear door-shuts) is rust-free, as is the underside. One or two parking scrapes (as you'd expect on a 15 year-old car) and a couple of spots where the lacquer's gone, most noticeably around the keyhole on the driver's door. The worst bit is where some knuckledragging scrote-bag has run a key down the nearside rear door down to the primer. Not through it though. If anyone's interested I'll snap a couple of pics of the grotty bits tomorrow....for it's age it's actually pretty darn tidy.
Drives really nicely for a Cavalier. Not the last word in driving dynamics (to say the least) but then they never were. First-time starter, pulls really well for what's a smallish engine in a hefty car. Outstanding on fuel for what it is, too. Admittedly I drive like a Grandad but I'm getting somewhere just over 40mpg out of it on the daily commute.
It's got ABS, PAS, Electric front windows, tilt/slide sunroof, a decent Sony Xplod head unit and erm....that's it. Very, VERY presentable inside. On the pics it's wearing a set of 14" GM (possibly Irmscher) alloys which are apparently rare (but not particularly attractive, IMHO...) Unfortunately both front tyres were badly cracked and one of 'em had a slow puncture, so I've now taken 'em off and replaced them with the stock 14" steelies and 175/70s. The car actually drives nicer with these on, the tyres on the alloys were 195/60's and on 5.5" rims it was over-tyred. The wheels are included in the sale though, as are a set of (correct for this model, not GSi) lowering springs I've got in the shed from a modified Cav we broke for the Red Top a couple of years ago.
Good Bits: Reliable,
economical, tidy banger with plenty of rent/MOT left, decent stereo, alloys in boot and lowering springs. VERY solid underneath.
Bad Bits: Aforementioned key damage to rear door and camcover gasket leak, front wheels need balancing (I'm being picky, but it's at 65-70mph, which is about as fast as I drive on the motorway.... ;D ), passenger's side electric window only goes up in stages. 'One-Touch' not working. Always closes, though.
So no it's not that exciting, but if you're after a cheap hack to run over the winter then it's ideal.
Genuine reason for sale. I don't like it! I only bought it at the end of June as a stop-gap when I sold my old Xantia, had I known I was about to spend 5 weeks off work with a knackered left leg I'd not have bothered.
It's available to view all this weekend and next week, but I'm away on holiday next Saturday (4th Sept) for a fortnight so be quick!!
£425ono No swaps, cash only please.
Car's in Bromsgrove, just off J4 of the M5 and J1 of the M42, SW of Birmingham.
