So for the last month of so I've been looking for a new daily, in that time I've been driving around in my sisters citroen c3 which is quite horrible. My ebay watch list has been full of 90's french diesels and the like. I realised with my daily commute there isnt the much benifit to having a diesel so instead I bought myself something I've always rather liked: 1986 Saab 900, its the 2.0 carb doesnt seem bad on juice. 90K been well looked after, lots of new bits full exhaust a clutch various other bits. very smooth 5spd manual, pas. I was on the look out for a Saab 99 but the prices have gone up alot since I last looked. Only issues I can see atm are a bit of rot on the front wings and the heater fan not working but appart from that it drives spot on!

Lovely! I like the early 900's, especially the 2dr saloons. Nice choice of commuter vehicle - comfortable, capable, yet retro.

Should be a good car - if the last pic is anything to go by, the car's never gonna give you up or let you down.... ;D

Clutches are easy, most you will need to remove is the rad. With practice you don't even need to do that.

in not very interesting news heater is now fully functioning, spend the last 2 nights trying to figure out the complex saab heater wiring diagram and realised someone had put wires on the wrong way on one of the switches, a little soldiering on the resistor pack and the correct ampage fuse in the fuse box and its all good again. Haven't figured out the heated seats yet but wha's more important is I have discovered that its 4x114.3 pcd!, now thoughts of j-wheels fill my head.

These old Saabs are superb workhorses... I've got the injection model (1986) in white - same wheels, ace! The heated seats should be automatic - ie if you have the heater on and the ambient temperature inside the car is low enough, you'll get a warm bum.
Actually... I really ought to dig it out the lockup and give it a run... :-)

Maybe with all the Volvo and Saab love on these boards now, maybe it is time for a Scandinavian sub board somewhere within RR where we can all toast ourselves with Absolut and eat BBQ'd reindeer sausages.

saab has been performing excellently as my daily for the last few months, work done so far has been a new set of front discs and pads for the mot (passed no advisorys) New correct sized battery, as the tiny 063 battery that was on there wasnt really up to the job. Also have renewed all the vaccum hoses under the bonnet and given it a good tune/strobe up. Oh and a new carb diaphragm. also some more welding practice, started with this: went through this stage, after repairing the inner arch folded the arch edge lip bit over and welded on to the new inner arch. ended up with this then it started raining needs a bit more work but as the arch lip is covered by a plastic trim I'm not going to go too mad with it.

Currently looks like: vauxhall carmine red not a great match but will do until I can get some paint mixed up. Started on the otherside: nasty scored a rear arch repair panel off ebay; has the same curve as the front arch! cut out the grot, quite alot got cut out of the inner arch too tack welded in place currently i've finished welding the arch on and started making up the inner.
