Hi all,
Looking to get a ford sierra with a rover v8 swap, but I'm 23 so thinking about the insurance.
I'm going to give the normal suspects like a plan and flux a go, but the big problem i think is its not old enough to go under classic, then it might be a bit cheaper, oh well
Any company's you guys think i should try.
James

i have been in contact with a few insurance companies recently regarding classic policies and my findings are
1) the car has to be standard 2) the car has to be over 15 years old 3) driver has to be over 25, or some firms it was 30!!! 4) the cost even on a 3000 mile policy was only marginally less than what i could pay for regular insurance and do 10k + modify the car.
Lancaster, Footman James, Heritage, Adrian Flux, Asset Trust, Highway, Brentacre are the ones ive tried and FJ are clearly the cheapest right now but over 25 only.

I've got mine on a classic policy with Flux, with all mods declared & wasn't a problem at all, including an engine swap-although only form 1.0 to 1.3! Wasn't cheap though, doubt any will be with a V8 conversion

Funny u should say! Adrian Flux quoted me £400 Fully comp for a 1992-J-reg sierra with a 3.5 Rover unit in there. That was 4 years ago when i was 21! Now they're not as cheap as they used to be, but still worth a try.
A lot of companies will put Sierra's on classic insurance, i've been running classic insurance on mine for a good few years now. Some like to call them "Modern classics" or such things.
My new favorite insurance company is PETER BEST insurance, HIC wanted £400 renual for the 10th july on my Sapphire, P-Best did it for £187, and that's fully comp (was TPFT) with 1000 extra miles a year!

I was with Adrian Flux with a Sprint with a 3.5 EFI at 20 - but how much it costs does vary wildly depending on your circumstances and area. It was a relatively sane policy too, limited to 6k miles a year (my choice though). That was 3/4 years ago now, much like weblefeck! At the time, for me, to give it some perspective, it was £550 all mods declared TPFT with a few years NCB - amongst other things it had a 5 speed box, uprated suspension, K&N, performance exhaust, that kind of thing Probably wouldn't have been much more fully comp but I didn't ask at the time. You could try Brentacre as well, they're fantastic for stuff like this and (depending on who answers the phone) very intelligent car people. www.brentacre.co.uk/A picture, to keep things related, of the car in question:

I could ONLY get quotes from Flux for my skoda!
No-one else would quote me on it, heavens knows why, it is only going up in capacity by 100 cc!
Madness, but the price from flux was fine so not bothered really!

I just phoned Adrian Flux to get a quote on my Rochdale, they seemed very professional and gave me a very reasonable quote for what is a heavily modified car. I was fearing the worst when she asked "where is the engine from?" and I had to say "A Lotus Exige"
