You won't chrome the edge of your wheels.
You need to search for beauty rings for the inch of wheel you plan on running.
As for what we think don't overly worry stick with what you think is cool, an individual ride you like will alway's be better than something someone has already done or think is scene. ;D

why?
are they widely available in different sizes and depths and whatever?
lol does that mean you don't like it? I'm not trying to be scene or do it for anyone else or anything like that, just after others opinions, to check I haven't had a taste bypass.

IMHO
gash
lowering it will improve looks over changing the wheels and will be a gazillion times cheaper!

fair enough, don't really fancy lowering it though, it's going to put insurance up too much, and I don't think it will look that much better unless its lowered quite a bit. I've kind of scared myself away from banding wheels as well for the same reasons and I've heard horror stories. perhaps the photoshop is a bit poop, trying to get the wheels something like this... but probably with spitfire wheels as the base

I think it'll look good. I was thinking of these with the centres painted black EDIT:- I've just seen the price of them, so maybe not

Yeah beauty rings or trim rings came in varying sizes, not knocking you at all it's nice to see someone thinking. Just want to encourage you to go the route you think as that's what creates the best rides. There have been too many self opinionated people round here lately rather than encouraging peoples visions helpfully.

Get these: cgi.ebay.co.uk/Triumph-Spitfire-GT6-Wheels-tyres-X5-/270595552367Correct PCD as they're off a GT6, would look great in gloss black with a chrome/stainless trim ring (or even with the rim done in cheapo 'chromealike' paint if you're a skinflint) and either fake three-eared spinners or (better, IMHO as they were popular in the 70's when boy racers actaually ran Heralds) some 'Lusso' caps which were small chrome flat-faced caps that covered the centre hole in the rim (they pushed through it from behind, which also means they are 100% thief-proof when they're on the car) and could be bought with a variety of badges. That, with a coil out of the front (which will give it some rake and accentuate the rear fins) would look the dog's danglies IMHO.

TR6 wheels will be a winner and you CAN get chrome rings for them TR6 wheels won't fit. 6" x 15" and wrong PCD (4.5" not 3.75").

I think those Ebay ones BrianD has found are 4.5" ones. You can also get them in 5.5" with more dish but they are more sought after and hence more expensive. If you find some presentable with usable tyres though they would be cheaper than bading stock rims/painting them/new tyres etc.
I have seen period aftermarket hubcap spinners on Ebay which could be attached to the hubs/wheels with a bit of enginuity.
There's a place in Norfolk (?) that does a chrome powdercoating - Aux has some smoothie rims done with it on his Sapporo. So that would be another option.
At the end of the day, find a style you like the look of.

But that's on a white sixties shape car, not a two tone fifties shape one and he hasn't used the trim rings you were considering. Looks like those are the spinners I mentioned though.

true, might just spray the centres of my heralds current wheels with some left over hammerite from doing the floor inside the car in the morning to see what it looks like. found this herald in the same colour scheme and with spit wheels www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C153345/

I like the paint-o-shops. Surely it's going to be miles better than than Toledo if done correctly - i.e. you have to hide the wheel studs! The caps Seth is talking about are a great idea. A set of trim rings will take care of the silver rims far cheaper and more conveniently than painting or chrome plating etc, unless you're a very good painter. Give it a shot, what have you got to lose?
