Bought this off here last year but haven't really used it as much as I thought I would so it's time to give it a new home. It's a 1/2" 18v cordless impact gun, model CTU3850. Comes with charger and a dud battery (possibly due to lack of use?). When I try and charge the battery the red light on the charger just flashes which indicates a battery fault. Worked fine before that - never failed to undo anything. Perfect if you've got something that uses the same battery already or you can just buy a new one. Apparently they can be repaired too - t'internet suggests that 'flashing' it may wake it up, or you can buy the bits to rebuild it from Maplin. Happy to post if required. Cheers

Battery sensor most likely at fault. pence to fix. I work with these guns all say long (as in for Snap On) its unlikely to be totally stuffed unless its got wet.

£60 is a bit low nutter, the chargers alone go for £45 + post on the Bay. Definitely hasn't got wet stinkwheel. How easy is it to fix, as if I can I will so I can make a bit more money for the V8 fund

get a multi meter and check the negative and sideways battery terminals. They 'should' read about 11 - 12.6 K Ohms. Or thereabouts. If its dead short or open circuit then its definitely the sensor on a flying lead to the middle of the battery thats gone. pence to replace from RS components or similar (part number 198-927) if thats OK then you have dead cells in the battery, thats bad, we used to replace them but ther strain of new cells tends to kill the old ones dead then. So its not worth bothering. Hope that helps mate.

I'm sure mine sometimes flashes red for a while when I put the battery in, I've never worried about it, just leave it to charge, stops after a while...
The guns are awesone, I wouldn't be without mine now, lives in the car!

hardcore, yours does that because the voltage in the battery is too low, if it charges after a while then the charger has lobbed enough volts in for it to then charge properly.

Bear with me guys...
The reading is 9.73kohms - do you reckon that's too low and is worth replacing the sensor, or is it just dead cells causing the issue?

Its a hard one to call that mate, the reading is a bit low, but it 'should' charge at that, so I'm thinking dead cells, if you put a multi meter on after its sat for 5 mins after its had a charge what voltage do you get?

Before the charge it reads 1.29v. After an hours charge it reads 1.33v.

Righto, thanks for your input stinkwheel!
So, as suspected the battery is a dud, but if you search really really hard you should be able to pick up a spare if you need one. Usedandabused was the first person toput dibs on it, so if you still want it it's yours. Will drop you a PM.
