We had the pleasure of being in Mumbles South Wales yeaterday, and what a beautiful place it is too. Anyway on the car park was this little beauty After we'd spent a few minutes looking around it an elderly lady made slow progress towards it before opening the door. My mate talked to her and she said she has lots of paople admiring her car which has its 37th birthday this year. Asked how long shed owned it she replied 'all itrs life'. The car was a credit to its careful owner, my mate said hed like it and do this mod and that but surely its better to leave a car like that standard? Nath

Looks like my ex's car, we bought it like this, but looked like this by the time it was finished with. It runs an HT racing injected pinto with cossie management, a 4 speed auto box and all the right suspension bits. Nothing is to good/original/rare to save it from the dedicated modifier.

Lol, not me, i was at home keeping her busy so she didn't wonder why it was taking a whole weekend to do such a minor job on the car at me mates workshop, i'm responsible for its previous incarnations though, it had been runnng pinto power and capri suspension for a while before the overhaul, i had to sneak out of the house a couple of times with parts from the shed.

keep it standard ! of course theres more than enough 4 door rs lookalikes and not enough gen nice stock mk1s I have to agree. It's only an observation, not a criticism....but to my mind modified Fords tend to stick to an established MO much like modified Minis etc etc. Drop, Superlites....job done. I have to admit that I've seen so may formulaic 'Old Skool' Blue Ovals that 9 times out of 10 I don't bat an eyelid if one goes by. But a stock Mk1 Escort would turn my head every time. Each to his own, I guess.

They drive like curse word in modern traffic if they are stock, even if you want to retain the looks its so easy to make them drive really well it criminal not to. Besides, no one says you have to paint them in stock colours, mine was built from all the right bits but i didn't want to blend in to the crowd so went mad with the rattle cans.

One lady owner? Id never buy a car with that used as a selling point.
One lady owner = bonnet rusted shut, no coolant or oil, dents and scrapes from tesco carpark, sweets & chocolate stuffed down the back seats (kids) etc etc etc
(PS: this is not ALL lady owners I'm referring to - just the vast majority of the general, female, driving population)

Your car is not 'epic', this thread is not 'epic'....the OCEAN is epic, the UNIVERSE is epic.... please stop misusing this word!! It would appear Hotrods are the new VWs - aint fashion funny! '69 BUICK LESABRE 350

As much as I love a modded mk1, there are just some that should be left alone. IMO That one looks like a beauty. But then I'm a bit biased towards original ones

Was a lot like that. Bonnet did not want to open, the dipstick felt like it was glued in, damn near had a hernia trying to check the oil. To be fair a lot of lady owners are far better with maintenance as they just pay a real garage to do it rather than 'have a go meself cuz like it's only a few bolts innit' as a lot of blokes do.

Our yellow one had been owned by a film company vehicle supplier so it had been kept quite nice looking on top, and been kept running and road legal, but under the skin in a lot of places you couldn't see (A pillars for example) it was pretty bad. Quite a bit of grot didn't show up untill the car was taken apart for minor repairs that turned into major repairs.
It had done something daft like 400 miles in 8 years and even though it was dry stored when not in use for filming it definately needed a resto, but at the time it was the right car for the right money, my missus needed a 4 door auto and wanted a tax free mk1 so we nursed it along for a few years adding better brakes, rear belts for the kids and the pinto engine, it was just about getting to the point when it needed to come off the road when the TS crew picked it to do the overhaul on, it probably saved it from being stripped as 4 door mk1 prices were still pretty low then.

There's a similar coloured Mk2 Pop (or Pop Plus) the other side of town from me that's also a one lady owner job. Not seen it in a while but it was spanking and the owner apparantly had sack loads of letters asking if she'd sell it every week.
