Hi guy's well after your thoughts and images.
Got a possible bun in the oven on it's way and the daily's now need to go to free up funds.
I am considering a Merc, either 190 or a c180 with some touches, any rough ideas how these can look and also rought mileage to £50 of fuel.
Also after something smallish cheap to run etc and safe for SWMBO, was thinking 5 door k11 micra or polo, something along these lines for around a grand.
Come on guy's give me you impared wisdom ;D

I think the non turbo merc 190d's will do 50mpg. They'll also run on chip fat if you've got a friendly local McD's. The price of them seems to be crazy low just now so you should get a decent one for a grand. A set of AMG rims, lowered a bit and the blacked out grill would do it for me.

Buy my Carlton estate. Perfect family car with a young baby as a pram fits lengthways in the boot meaning you don't have to lean right over to get the shopping out. It really has been a godsend especially for my girlfriend as she had a C section so still has a sore back when lifting/reaching. I'm only selling as we only need a small pushchair now so don't need the massive car.

Want to go for the cleaned look on both cars i think, seem to have a thing for it, must be the old cal look things from my bug day's and a twist from the lowrider days.
Images and ideas are so appreciated guys cause 5/4 doors are alway's harder to pull off it seems.

If your after something safe to put a baby in, get something humungous, anyone who's done recovery work will be able to tell you small stuff just folds up, unless you can get something modern with a high NCAP rating, but even then a baby in the back of a big car has a much better chance should the worst happen.
SWMBO drove our Mazda 4x4 into the back of a Fiat Multipla last year, the Fiat folded up right up to the rear seat upright but our truck picked up a couple of scratches on the bumper, not even a broken number plate to show for it.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Anything with a big boot/estate - otherwise you will want more room!
Merc W124 estate or similar - otherwise you'll run out of space. It's always shocking how much stuff is needed for a child under 2.

Current vehicle collection: 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero convertible - in mid-life crisis yellow No new retro as yet ... all attempts to sneak one onto the drive have failed.

Not a personal dig in the slightest, as you seem a really sound guy, and I'm sure you use your mazda for what it's designed for. But this is a lot of the reason I hate people using 4x4's for the school run, if you hit anything, you'll kill it. Statistically you're much more likely to be involved in a fatal accident in a 4x4, probably not your self, but whoever has died, has done so for no reason, and the children being ferried around in the oversized shopping box get mentally scared for life. It's also worth considering that most 4x4's have irritatingly small boots considering their size, and are a pain in the backside for lifting stuff into, or even worse, putting stuff on the roof. Sorry, rant over. Anyway, I'd say go for an estate of some sort, passats are another good shout if you want a better economy than the mercs.

i do agree about the other person suffering if you run em over, and i also have a problem with chelsea tractors that never see dirt, ours works for a living and its our only vehicle other than my unfinished Transit van, which lets be honest would probably have the same effect should i hit something small.
Having a child though changes your attitude about these things and however you (or I) may feel about it, if your gonna be in an arms race to protect your kids you might as well be in it to win it, i'd get over the emotional trauma of killing someone else faster than i'd get over my own kids dying.
Selfish as that may seem thats the way it is, 4x4's are not safer overall, but in an accident with another car they usually come off better.

probably achievable with some time spent on ebay bargain hunting. I'd think you'd struggle to get a amg ducktail for a bargain, seems to be the must have kit for the 190's Cossie kits are often already fitted to most 190s and are cheap if not £100 Max for the kit. 190s suit motorway miles as most are autos, and round town are dreadful, i struggle to better 19mpg on my 2.6. However come motorway travel i can do 210miles on £25 with some left in tank. better than a fiat uno. and 70 all the way officer, cept the little bit of average speed on m25

That and they big pimpin' ya'll. Get a Transit

Congrats mate! It's gotta be a Mercedes. Either a nice 190e 2.6, a W124 or a C-Class. Watching The Perm at Mallory has made me see W202's in a whole different light! ;D

Cheers for the advice and good words as always folks. Hardest thing to find is mpg figures for cars, anyone got any suggestions where to look? If it comes out better than my daily scooby non turbo then it's a possible winner. Always had a thing for Merc's and YES i blame Perm too, he got to me while i was young ;D
